England Has BANNED Martha Stewart!

Filed under: Anglophilia > Wacky, Tacky & True > Legal Matters > Martha Stewart

amarthas.jpg

File this under WTF?

The queen of crudité, Martha Stewart, has been refused entry into England!

The reason?

Because of her criminal convictions four years ago for obstructing justice.

Shizz, Martha did her prison time and paid her 'debt' to society.

Why the eff should that be held against her?

Martha was reportedly planning to speak at the Royal Academy and to hold meetings with several figures in the fashion and leisure industry.

A spokesperson for the jack of all crafty trades said, "Martha loves England and hopes this can be resolved and that she will be able to visit soon."

A British government official has said, "It is a bit silly given some of the other people allowed into the country."

The UK Border Agency said it would not comment on individual cases.

A spokesman went on to say, "We continue to oppose the entry to the UK of individuals where we believe their presence in the United Kingdom is not conducive to the public good or where they have been found guilty of serious criminal offences abroad."

Martha not 'conducive' to the 'public good'?

Ha!!!!

Yes kids, when people go to jail it means they weren't "good" for some reason. It's pretty basic jail time = you were bad. Hence, Martha Stewart = not a good person.

    17

The US border patrol won't allow people to come into our country if they have a criminall record, so it makes sense that the UK has a similiar law. The US officials don't care if you have paid your debt to society, you're still not allowed in. Same goes for the UK. Wake-up Perez.

  18. ERIKA says – reply to this

    18

GUESS WHAT, if you have a DUI conviction in the US, you CAN be denied admission to Canada now. Back in the good old days, before Homeland Security and blazing fast internet, there was not a big chance that the border guard would know about a 10 year old DUI. Imagine my embarrassment and surprise when I went to BC for a concert last month, only to be DENIED. I'd been back and forth over that border 100 times since that DUI, but it finally did catch up with me.

YOUR YOUTH CAN HAUNT YOU. NO LECTURES PLEASE ABOUT DRINKING AND DRIVING. I AM COMPLETELY REFORMED AND TELL THIS STORY TO CAUTION YOU.

    23

Every country has rules about who they let in and who they don't. It has to do with your criminal record not a celebrity. She should be let in because she's Martha Stewart? What kind of logic is that? THey can't go breaking every rule because the person is a celebrity…

I love how if a celeb gets out of going to jail ppl get pissed however something like this happens they think celebs should be able to go anywhere and do what they want.

DMX has a hard time getting into Canada to do concerts… not because he's DMX but because he's got a criminal record. I'm thankful countries have these rules (although sometimes they are not observed as closely as they should)

Good for England not letting her in. Not because of what she did was so terrible.. but because it's upholding it's laws.

    30

Hmmm it's normal for the US not to allow convicted criminals, regardless how old the charges are and whether or not they did time, why should other countries treat Americans any different?

  31. troll says – reply to this

    31

She should have just flown into Scotland. I mean every fucker thinks its a different country anyway.

  32. get o says – reply to this

    32

US won't let any GB people in who have a criminal record. Works both ways.

  33. djt73 says – reply to this

    33

I'm a practicing immigration attorney, and I'm not surprised this happened. Once you have a criminal record, it is very hard to prove you have good moral character, especially when the crime implicates a serious problem with moral turpitude. to be honest, I was amazed when Winehouse's tourist visa was approved. Maybe Martha can sneak into the UK?

  34. Deb says – reply to this

    34

Why should Martha Stewart be given special priviledges that every other convicted felon does not have. You would be surprised the rights that are denied to ex felons. One being the right to vote in this country. Once you serve your time and paid your debt to society the issue should be over and done with …but it is not. Convicted felons cannot apply for any type of state or federal funding (for schooling, etc), no voting rights, and the list goes on. So although I do not believe banning Martha from England is right….she should not be treated any differently that anyone else just because of who she is.

  35. Colle says – reply to this

    35

Jesus, if the US can allow Amy Winehouse in then I think the British can suck it up and let Martha Stewart come in their country.

  36. te says – reply to this

    36

Are these people serious? Someone must have a personal issue with Martha because their reason doesn't hold water. Serious criminal offence, are you kidding me? What, are they afraid she's going to go over there and sell a stock she has inside info on? Because she could do that from home if she wanted to (not that I think she would) morons!!!

  37. Cherr says – reply to this

    37

Re: Trait – Traitors? to who? America is completely self-serving as a nation. Why should we be your little minions?

  38. me says – reply to this

    38

Uhm - Lily Allen couldn't get into the US until recently, Amy Winehouse couldn't get in to play the Grammys - Wake the fuck up & neither of them have been in jail.

As for 'terrorists' in the UK. If they are British Muslims, born & raised here you can't really throw them out the country - The UK is their home!

P.S- Perez, when it comes to Border Security it's the 'U.K' - NOT England - learn your fucking geography!

  39. k says – reply to this

    39

she wasn't allowed in Canada either. She tried to come in for some big pumpkin festival and the denied her visa, after she had done publicity for her trip. I guess a criminal is a criminal hey. Like who knows what wild and crazy things that woman is capable of. She may run wild through the streets gilding parking meters and trimming public lawns with pinking shears.

  40. wbs says – reply to this

    40

Geez, it's the law. The US also has a lot of entry requirements and things like old convictions, being HIV positive,… can result in a refusal of entry. Just look up form I94 if you want to know what the US wants to know about simple short term tourists (not to mention visa applications…)!!!

  41. @v@ says – reply to this

    41

So England should stop others with criminal convictions from entering, but should allow Martha in because she's a celebrity? The law doesn't care if you're famous, and a two tier legal system would favor the rich and famous. Dollars to donuts they let her in anyway after some beaurocratic finangling.

  42. @v@ says – reply to this

    42

Why, then, is Naomi Campbell allowed to fly back and forth between England and the U.S.?

  43. M says – reply to this

    43

Er. Those who aren't north american citizens can't enter USA if they have a criminal record, and second.. who cares? :)

  44. kit says – reply to this

    44

Good for them. About time she stops being viewed as a role model.

  45. eb says – reply to this

    45

welcome to the rest of the world, Perez & Martha. What do you think the US does to everybody else in the world? Why do you think there is illegal immigration in the first place, banning entry to people even without a criminal record? well done, UK.

  46. eb says – reply to this

    46

Re: @v@my guess is because she is a U.S. resident. But wait until it's time to renew her greencard. I hope fame and money won't be included as a factor.

Our goverment is so effed up at the minute because of Labour(Political party in which Gordon Brown is the leader of and Tony Blair is the ex-leader).

Our goverment is always doing stupid things, like you can run over a kid when your drunk and get 8 months in prison or you can be a little old lady who forgets or can't afford to pay council tax one week and get up to 10 years.

NuLabour are a bunch of morons, at the minute they are trying to give us away to the E.U.

  49. samUK says – reply to this

    56

mmm - Britain and the US both have fucked governments. Their priorities are so backwards. No wonder people hate us/them.

  58. bunny says – reply to this

haha so its OK to let AMY WINEHOUSE be in the country but not Martha? hilarious. maybe martha should be a crackhead and start losing some of her teeth, then she'd be good to go!

  59. David says – reply to this

    59

Hey, I was with a group on a bus entering the USA at Blaine WA recently. One Canadian person. who had a misdemeanor charge for possession of one marijuana cigarette 20 years ago, was denied entry by US Border Guards. As I recall, Martha's criminal charges were somewhat more serious!

  60. Ed says – reply to this

    60

Hey fagtard (no worse than celebutar, eh Perez?) - Why should this obnoxious twat be treated any differently than any other CONVICTED FELON? Because she's Martha Stewart? No. She should be treated like any other CONVICTED FELON and this is what happens. Dumb ass.

  61. dami says – reply to this

    61

for all u ignorant people. the UK has a policy to protect its citizens from anyone with a criminal past.. i remember quite correctly the US banning Amy Winehouse until she appealed it.. Also snoop dogg was banned for a few years before he was allowed in.. Martha commited a crime and this is one of the punishments, I have no doubt that they will let her in eventually but this is procedure. she is no special than anyone else who has been through this process, just because she is a white, american female doesnt make her any special than any one either here in the UK or in the US.

  62. Lotus says – reply to this

    62

I am happy to see that the celeb's can't buy their way out of things. As so many have pointed out already, the US have some very strict rules when it comes to allowing previously convicted felons into their country. It works both ways, and I think it only fair that Martha goes to an interview at the British embassy in Washington, as Amy Winehouse did when she was going to the US. That being said, I think it's ok for a country to have certain restrictions BUT I think it's disgusting to deny someone entry to a country because they are HIV positive. It's cruel, ignorant and disgusting.

  63. sugam says – reply to this

Naomi Campbell, she's a piece of work. Martha Stewart is a real threat to the British, she might teach them how to cook or something. Good call, Britain. But keep on letting all the drug convicts in, that's okay, but Martha, oh, no, be careful……….Please!

  72. Mia says – reply to this

  75. conni says – reply to this

    75

Erika Kane was busted for insider trading too. I wonder if they'll let her in the country.

  76. Ali says – reply to this

    76

Many countries have strict rules as to whom they let into the country. Sometimes, anything more than a misdemeanor will void you from entering, no matter if you are famous or not. Good for England for sticking to their rules and not making exceptions.

God there are some ignorant people on here. Most countries have various entry laws pertaining to your criminal record and also if you have been to prison at all. Alot of countries deny you entry if you have been to prison or any drug convictions, it's been like this for fucking years.

Silly yanks need to travel more.

THE QUEEN CAN TAKE A PLATE OF FISH AND CHIPS AND SHOVE IT UP HER POON-TANG FOR ALL I CARE. AND PRINCE EDWARD MAKES TOM CRUISE LOOK BUTCH–HE CAN SIT ON BIG BEN BACKWARDS AND ROTATE. I'LL BE AT THE HOTEL DU CAP IN ANTIBES SOAKING UP SOME SUN. DAMN THOSE PASTY FACED PRICKS ANYWAY!

  92. Kari says – reply to this

    92

So you are saying if you go to jail and serve your time, you've paid you debt? So if a child molester served his/her time they have paid their debt and should not have to register as a sex offender. I know this is the extreme but rules should apply to everybody, even Marth Stewart!

  93. Rache says – reply to this

    93

Why does that seem wrong to you?? The American Government refuse entry to people if they have had a few speeding tickets.. She actually went to jail..

  94. Maja says – reply to this

    94

this is a bit ridiculous. Do you guys even know how many people the US denies entry to visit? And they deny people just because they are from South Africa or wherever..people that haven't committed the smalles crime, they just weren't born here. Now one of your 'famous' people can't visit a country and you freak out? I love this country but you guys need to get a grip on yourselves!

  95. anna says – reply to this

    95

tbh no one actually knows or cares who this woman is in the uk.

    we have our own celebrities…..

  96. 96

  98. Billy says – reply to this

    98

And you Americans in the Land of the Free won't allow anyone with HIV in the country whether any criminal conviction or not. On the visa application form, people with HIV were in the same boxes as convicted terrorists and nazi war criminals. That's very caring and sharing.
On top of the above, doing time is only paying a punishment for the crime, it does not take the crime away.

  99. @v@ says – reply to this

    99

These laws were tightened mercilessly with the advent of 'Home Security', as the U.K. and Canada and Australia followed suit when our citizens weren't being looked at and considered for entry into the U.S.on a sensible case by case basis. Hell, thousands were refused U.S. entry for having the same last name as someone flagged as suspicious. Even Ted Kennedy was delayed in country about five times as someone thought it would be funny to put him on your own no-fly list. (they claimed it because of some OTHER Kennedy, lol.) Tit for tat, and what's good for the goose.

  100. tony says – reply to this
