How Did That Happen????

wenn1715963__opt11.jpg

Wow!

Seemingly overnight, he's got the "bounce."

Barack Obama has opened up a HUGE 15-point lead over Presidential rival John McCain!

According to the latest Newsweek poll, Obama has a substantial double-digit lead, 51 percent to 36 percent, over McCain among registered voters nationwide.

"Overall, voters see Obama as the preferred agent of "change" by a margin of 51 percent to 27 percent. Younger voters, in particular, are more likely to see Obama that way: those 18 to 39 favor the Illinois senator by 66 percent to 27 percent. The two candidates are statistically tied among older voters."

Will Barack's refusal to accept public financing of his campaign affect those numbers negatively next week???

  16. 16

The polls had Gore ahead in the last election also, but we see how that turned out. The younger voters who are Obama-crazy should be careful. The man is not trustworthy. He's only telling you what you want to hear to get elected. It's great if you're planning to vote and you think you're changing the world, but be careful of the wolf in sheep's clothing.

  17. DIANE says – reply to this

  19. 19

I don't know why refusing to accept public money would affect his campaign? Surely, that money would be best put to good use, schools, etc.?

  20. Grace says – reply to this

    20

So Obama has alot of money to spend has simply bought himself yet another news storyline at Newsweek .

Obama stole the nomination from Hillary Clinton who not only won the popular vote but Democratic Leaders distributed the delegates at will and not the will of the Democratic voter. Hillary was robbed by Obama and the Democratic party.

Obama removing all muslims from sight of the American public during a tv broadcaste speech speaks volumes as to his true charcter and intent. Rich and Dishonest.

  21. Chris says – reply to this

    21

Who fucking cares!!! First off, once again we have a sorry lot of hopefuls to choose from. McCain is the same ole bullshit. Obama, don't be fooled by his message of change. Frankly that's all it will be, a message. Don't expect to see much from him. the president has limited authority, it's the two houses that hold the pwer. He is a wolf in sheeps clothing and his wife is a lying racist witch. Anyhow, the election isn't for quite some time. It doesn't matter who's in the lead right now. Let's wait till we're closer to voting time.

  22. VIVA says – reply to this

    22

People are waking up FINALLY to the reality of another republican 4 years…that is how it happened.
this refusal of campaign $$ is getting blown out of proportion. I mean shouldn't we be thanking him for not using our $$ for his campaign that we pay through taxes and relying solely on small contributions?! why don't we use that money to help the flood victims then!
That being said, I think he is the best choice and hope people realize this in November. we still have a long way to go, but John McCain is a huge mistake for this country!! GO OBAMA!!!

  23. Scy says – reply to this

    23

How? Because we are all coming together in our hate for all things Republican. Also, we've gotten to see senile old fool McCain in action. His big time "experience" for President is being captured by the enemy. Wow. How utterly impressive.

  24. Mimi says – reply to this

    24

I won't change my mind because he's not taking public money. In fact, I think it's great that he doesn't! I don't donate to those funds anyway when I'm asked at the income tax forms. I think it's ridiculous we have to fund millions of dollars for a fucking campaign.

If they need to spend so much, it might as well be private money. Of course, not my private money because I don't donate to politicians either!

In the end, politicians are all garbage, it's just so happens that Obama stinks a little less! So that's why my vote goes to him.

  25. Alice says – reply to this

    25

Your an idiot regarding politics. Refusing public money is a good thing for our country. He already has raised more money than he needs and will continue to do so through private donations. Our country has much better use with the public money, so how could that be negative? Letting the government keep the money to spend on schools, bettering police departments, and financing the offshore drilling. Oh yeah, that's awful.

  26. Dak says – reply to this

    26

Perez, while you were flying the Hillary banner people were posting that Barack had a much better chance against McCain than she. They were right. John McCain received zero scrutiny while the democrats were holding their primaries. Now that he is under the microscope, he is failing. He is an incredibly weak candidate. He is not dynamic and appears confused on a regular basis. It's not that he's old, it's that he's frail. Ronald Reagan was robust; McCain is not. The republicans made a huge mistake, and the democrats made probably the best electoral decision since they nominated John Kennedy. The only way they can screw it up now is if Obama names Hillary as his VP. That would be incredibly damaging to the campaign. He should name John Edwards or Al Gore.

  27. Nick says – reply to this

    27

It happens because if you look at the demographics of who was polled they around 100 less Republicans than they did Democrats or Independents.

You don't ask one party if they are going to vote for their candidate and he loses big in the poll. Not hard to figure out. I'm going to conduct a poll where I ask 400 Republicans and 300 Democrats who they are going to vote for and for some reason I suspect McCain will have a 15 point lead as well.

  28. Ben says – reply to this

    28

I'm looking for land in Costa Rica after hearing this. HILLARY, HELP!!!!!!!

  29. GRACE says – reply to this

    29

hey GRACE- stopped playing the poor old Hilary card. she did the same thing. she strategically always placed black people behind her when she spoke…I wonder why. Even Hillary has moved on…so should you….and Hillary did not win the Polular vote because that is only if you counted Michigan and Florida, which as we all know you shouldn't since they did not follow the DNC rules in the beginning. AND Obama wasn't even on the ballot in one state and didn't campaign in the other. Geez…look who followed the rules there…not Hillary!!

now calm down and stop actiung lkike you pseudo hilary democrast would actually vote for McCain. he is a republican with no desire to uphold all the things Hillary stood for….gay rights, a womans right to choose, etc. So if you really liked Hillary, you would never vote for him! MOVE ON!!!!!!!!!

  30. andi says – reply to this

    30

Perez, look at the methodology. I would hardly call this "poll" statistically sound.

  31. Anon says – reply to this

    31

Perez. You need to not comment on shit you don't understand. If Obama took public funds, he would be limited on how much he can spend. Then the Rethuglicans, who ALWAYS have lots of money, can set up 527s. These are committees that go around the finance laws and do attack ads, "swift boat" commercials and other smears and lies. Now Obama is freee to raise as much as he needs! I am proud of him for being independent of the public money and the bullshit.Obama's supporters have disbanded their 527s. You must be racist Perez. What is your problem with Obama? He is smart. Really smart. He beat Hillary. And he did it with class.

  32. whoos says – reply to this

Re: GRACE – Where is barrack Hussien Obama's birth ceritficate and why has the Obama camp refused to present it as of date?

Hillary Clinton still has not backed down for Obama may not even qualify to be a US president.

Simpley answer why will Obama not release his birth certificate?

Too Rich and Too Dishonest to even care to be fair.

  34. ANNIE says – reply to this

    34

OBAMA SUCKS MAJOR ASS AND WILL DESTROY OUR COUNTRY IF HE IS ELECTED!!! FOR ALL WE KNOW HE COULD BE TAKING ORDERS FROM OSAMA BIN LADEN STRAIGHT FROM A HOLE IN HIS HOUSE AND WHEN HE BECOMES PRESIDENT WILL BLOW US ALL UP!!! HE IS A FUCKIN TERRORIST!!!! COME ON PPL!!!

  35. 35

The reason why Obama's refusal to accept public money is a problem, first of all, is because by refusing this money, he creates an unfair playing field against McCain. While this could be construed as a good strategic decision, it surely speaks to his true character. But most importantly, it means that he's taking more and more donations from private and corporate supporters. That kind of money buys a LOT of influence down the road. He's cloaking this as a something positive for those who are too gullible to know better, but don't be fooled.

  36. SPIN says – reply to this

    36

    Perez,
Once you are around politics more, you will learn a lot of important things. Here is something you need to know about polling, and you can confirm this with anyone "in the know". A poll of "registered" voters is just about worthless. The only poll worth it's weight is a poll of "likely" voters. There is a HUGE difference. There is absolutely no reason for an organization to take a poll of registered voters because those have proven to be ALWAYS way off.

The only reason they would do this is to skew, or spin, or pimp for a particular candidate. Newsweek is pimping for Obama–this is clear. Never in the history of news magazines has a magazine been so blatantly biased. This poll story only proves that point further, because no reputable organization uses registered voter polls and expects to be taken seriously. Newsweek–your time is up!

Bullshit, he will not win. I am voting for McCain in the election. I voted for Hilary during the primaries. IMcCain is going to win people, deal with it.

  38. LucyR says – reply to this

    38

As a Brit I hope with all my might that American votes Obama in come November.

However, soaring ahead in the polls isn't always a good thing, it makes voters think it's a sure thing and they don't get off their arses and go to the polling station.

Yes, he's young, yes he's inexperienced but change is good - he can't fuck things up anymore than Bush has. Your country is on its knees…time for fresh blood.

    43

Nobody gives a rats ass how his campaign is financed. Obama would be stupid to handicap himself with the 84.1 million when he can generate 3-4 times that amount legally from donors. McCain didn't do it because they weren't sure they'd be able to raise much more than the 84.1 million, so they took the sure thing. Plus the money from public financing doesn't fix the 527 groups that would kill Obama if he wasn't able to fight them financially.

No nevermind my last post, Obama should win. I mean, when the US has to deal with the Iranian President, he's just going to talk to them. We all know that works. Maybe he should just talk to Osama Bin Laden and just add a please and then the world will be a whole again.

He even made himself a sign that looks likes the Presidents, so stupid people would think he was already the President.

That being said, your comments are nothing but ridiculous and you are a sore loser. 4 years ago I supported Howard Dean and people weren't exactly fair to him, but I supported Kerry after he withdrew because it was best for our country. 81

I am amazed at the ignorant people that I find on this site. There is a comment from someone stating that Obama is a terrorist and will be taking orders from Osama…you really need to stop reading trivial things like the gossip on Perez Hilton and maybe open a book. Secondly, Hillary only won the popular vote according to her own calculations which most analysts do not agree with. Polls change daily so this is bounce may be temporary but his decision not to go with public financing should not cause for the margin to narrow. Campaign finance reforms were brought on to limit big donations from PACS, lobbyists, and corporations. Obama does not accept such donations and most of his money is from individuals like you and I. He has more than one million contributors giving less than 100 dollars each. Americans like us contributing the little that we can means that we have a say when he becomes president rather than the big corps. I ask for everyone who comment negatively about a person to please check the facts before you post in effort to not look uninformed.

McCain is too old. Period. He'd never survive his presidency and we've already had one Republican in office who went senile while others did his job behind the scenes for a few years. Enough. Let's elect Obama who has the smarts and energy to do the job.

I think his refusal to accept public financing is a good thing. If you had listened to his reasoning you would aggree. He is tryng to run a clean campaign and not take more from the public. While John McCain openly takes with both hands from the public and lobbyist.

I'm tired of needless warfare, outrageous debt, a bad economy, and old men who hate the middle class and poor. Time for a change from the Republitards. Time for Obama.

Thank goodness. The last thing we need is another four years of the messes Bush has gotten us into. McCain is nothing but more of the same.

The Republicans did a rotten job for eight years. Out with the old and in with the new. Good for Obama!

Not a Republican president? But… but… then who will illegally wiretap our phones? LOL. I'll bet we'll be able to live with a president like Obama who actually believes in upholding the law. It will be different but we could get used to it.
