The Wino is still in the hospital and she has just been diagnosed with emphysema.
Pretty serious stuff!
Amy's dad, Mitch Winehouse, spoke to journalists about the severity of her diagnosis.
He says, "The doctors have told her if she goes back to smoking drugs it won't just ruin her voice, it will kill her. The doctors have said that if she had continued the way she was going she could have ended up an invalid — she wouldn't have been able to breathe. She's got emphysema. It's in its early stages, but had it gone on for another month they painted a very vivid picture of her sitting there like an old person with a mask on her face struggling to breathe. With smoking the crack cocaine and the cigarettes, her lungs are all gunked up. There are nodules around the chest and dark marks. She's got 70 percent lung capacity. If she doesn't go back to drugs, then she can lead this magnificent life. We are praying that that's what Amy really wants. She seems resolute."

How much has she been smoking to have emphysema at such a young age? My grandfather has emphysema but he's 70 and used to smoke 2-3 packs a day for over 40 years. Unfortunately there is no cure and your lung capacity will keep diminishing over time. Such a shame

I am a huge Amy fan, I own both albums and listen to them religiously. I wish so bad that there was something I could do! Fighting an addiction is so hard and if she beats this I will be so proud of her.

she is a terrible role model. what a waste of talent, i'm truly disgusted by her. she made her drug use a public thing which is just completely gross and irresponsible. i hate to say this but i don't feel bad for her. too many people have tried to help her and she ignored it.

Yea I was right! Within a year she will be dead. The extent of abuse to her young precious body is rediculously sad-but she did it! silly how people think addiction is so easy to get over… It's called an addiction for a reason… Most people don't over addictions just like that. It takes a lot of stuff to happen in their life for them to finally decide that they want to get over it… I mean, if bad shit didn't happen while being addicted to drugs, what would be the point of quitting? Hopefully this is the wake up call Amy needs, and she'll stop.

She MAY die? Um ya, she will die - everyone does.
She will jus have to choose how fast she wants to go. Hopefully her demons arent too strong and she will be able to fight those addictions. It will be the hardest thing she has had to do I bet.
My prediction is that Amy will continue to smoke drugs and cigarettes and die of a drug overdose within the year. She's had her chance to be England's national treasure, and she's largely blown it (or smoked it). I have no more patience for this woman who has an enormous gift. I've gone from thinking "If I had a fantasy dinner party, she'd be one of the guests" to "She is a total embarrassment for the UK" in one short year. Sad, but true.

I got this off of yahoo news earlier this morning. I guess it depends on what she is "resolute" about. Is she resolute about kicking her addiction or is she "resolute" about going back to drugs? She has to want to quit. It's a shame that the music industry may well lose an up and coming talent to drugs. Hopefully the doctors managed to scare her straight and her parents gain some control of her situation. Tough love. Maybe they can manage to keep her in the hospital long enough to detox.

I watched my Dad die of emphysema and it is not pretty. Before you die, on average you will spend approximately 24 months hauling around an oxygen tank. My dad used to say it was like "breathing through a straw"…."No, no, no, Amy."

Sadly I don't think Amy cares enough about herself to help herself. She seems to have a lot of self hate issues and I don't know what can be done about that. I don't see her as willing to see a psychologist or anything and thats what she really needs. The ugly tattoos, self abuse, drugs, eating disorders ect all scream self loathing.

Lost my granpa to this disease. He worked years in the coal mines of Ky and on top of that he smoked. Wouldn't wish this terrible disease on anybody.

I've got news for those of you who smoke….you can ge emphysema after only 2 years of daily smoking. Christy Turlington already has it and Carol Burnett's daughter died of lung cancer caused by smoking when she was only 35. People who smoke are just begging for cancer. Stop it now!

I once sat on an airplane next to someone with emphesyma - it was the worst ride of my life - SO NASTY wheezing & coughing non stop! it's like this old person who's smoked their whole life disease. That is INSANE!!! She is only 23 years old or something like that. INSANE!!!!! This has got to be a wake up call to her. Unfortunately though, heroin isn't the sort of drug you just stop taking, and unfortunately neither is crack. As much as we all giggle at her, she has a long long road ahead of her.
