A few of our Scandi lovelies have been in touch to report that Avril Lavigne is being totally lame in Sweden.
Apparently, Avril is set to perform in Sweden on Saturday, and she has demanded that any photographer hoping to shoot at the concert sign a contract that goes against the Swedish law.
Avril, a Canadian, is demanding that Swedish photogs follow U.S. law.
Huh????
Why should Swedes on their home turf follow some other country's laws????
According to a rep for Lavigne's record label, it's Avril - not the record company - that's making the crazy demand.
April's managers drew up the 'illegal' contract.
We think this is grounds for an all-around boycott of anything Avril in Sweden!

That's a common clause in a contract and it's not illegal. Maybe you should stop looking for reasons to hate people, especially when they are baseless.
I’m posting this because alot of women read this site and i want to get the msg out there. One of my female friends got really really drunk and had a huge night partying and then ended up going back to a guy’s room and having sex. It was totally consensual but the next morning she regretted so she said he raped her. The police took it very seriously and questioned her about it and she said that she was fine with it at the time and consented but only because she was drunk, and the next morning she regretted it, so it was his fault for taking advantage of her while she was drunk… we were all stunned. How could she think that she had been raped? That trivializes all the horrible sex crimes that do happen! She wasn’t raped, she just had a wild night and felt crap the next morning! You can’t say someone took advantage of you, if at the time you consented but then just regretted it later. Imagine what would happen if a law was passed that made it illegal for men to have sex with a woman if she was intoxicated?? Then every woman out there would be screaming about it being unfair. YOU SIMPLY NEED TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR ACTIONS!

I see a fair amount of contracts and it is really actually quite common to include a clause on applicable law, i.e. the legislative system (country) to which contractual relations will be referred and under which they will be interpreted if a dispute arises. That includes a third-party country. It is certainly not illegal OR outrageous.

I don´t know why some people who comments here claim that the contract isn´t illegal. Do you know Swedish law? Or even how the civil law system works? According to Swedish law a contract is illegal and void as soon as it is not in accordance with Swedish law. Even though the article from Aftonbladet does not explain the fine details of this contract, it does seem that they try to limit the photographer right to publish some pictures. That is a violation of freedom of the press, a violation of our Constitution.

I´m a Swedish law student, currently writing my master thesis in the area of human rights (freedom of press is included in Human Rights). In Sweden, if you write a contract that does not follow Swedish law, the contract is simply void. No-one has to follow it. Why do you think you know the Swedish legal system?

This is very common. Rather than hire high priced attorneys in every country on her tour, her mangaement will state the laws that govern the contract according to the locale where the contract was drafted. Of course, local law always takes precedence, so anything that violated swedish law would obviously be void.
You are really very stupid to make such a basic and common thing into a big deal.

Avril Lavigne is the Soulja Boy of pop music. Her lyrics are weak, very weak. She cannot seem to pull inspiration from herself, often credits her friends with the materials for her music. Other times she just flat out steals. There is a reason Chantelle isn't friends with her anymore. There are reasons why her music isn't making the charts like it use to. She is old hat. She is bubble gum pop "punk" (if you want to insult punk that is) She treats her fans and band members like shit. Speaking as a Canadian, I do no like the idea the she represents our country. Honestly, if you are lucky enough to be a recording artist and get to do shows in Europe you should not force them to follow the rules of another country.
