I think it's wonderful that someone is reaching out to RETARDS like PEREZ HILTON trying to teach them to live on their own.

OH MY FUCKING GOD. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE - EITHER STOP POSTING THESE, OR POST THEM IN A MORE BELIEVEABLE WAY. It's obvious by the frequency of these posts, and your laziness towards just re-wording "click here to read up on…", that you are under some hideous contract to publish these in return for cash. From what I have discovered from at least two of these decent charities, promoters for their causes recieve a % of donations. SAD TO SEE YOU HAVE REACHED SUCH A DESPERATE, DISPICABLE LOW.

RETARDS?????!!!!! Are you serious… even in joke, it's not funny. At all. I thinks it's good these listings are here. I don't give a toss if they are paying for it, or it's being added as a favour. It's all good.
Brings a little touch of reality into an admittedly fascinating unreal world. Can't harm.
    Now….on with the goss.

    Toppe,

Using offensive language is not necessary. If you are disagree with PEREZ then comment on that. Using the "r" word is unacceptable and not appropriate.

I work in the Hampton Roads are area and I am a HUGE fan of Hope House. Thanks Perez for giving a GREAT agency a chance to expand all that they accomplish. Virginia is one of the lowest states in the country for funding support providing services to adults with developmental disabilities.

Hope House provides apartment living for adults in a supportive and person centered environment. One would be surprised how easy it is to take for granted having a pet, a favorite restaurant or even a preferred doctor. Hope House allows people to be themselves in their own place - combining the best of letting people get the help they need to succeed without being smothered.

I am a long time Perez fan and I am thrilled you sponsored this agency. I don't work for them but do work with people who receive their help. What a worthwhile cause!

I hope this does wonders for them!!

Everyone is complaining about the pregnant teens and how they are setting a bad name for America or who ever, and being SO judgmental towards them…When look at what some people are saying here! Like teen pregnancy can be prevented! People with disabilities cannot. Like really…grow up and try picking on people who can defend themselves ..Your a bunch of low lives!

whether or not youre being paid for this, perez, its awesome that youre promoting this along with all your other posts promoting charities.
this one especially is awesome, i work for a similar organization in ottawa, ontario and there is always a lack of funding somewhere in the budget and in some situations the individuals are missing out on something that would mean the world to them.

people dont always see these organizations as charities but any program like this needs funding somehow!!!

    thanks perez!!!!!

Nelly - do you suppose that these people, because they are mentally or physically handicapped, are not REAL working Americans? I have never seen so many self-centered & completely selfish people in my life in one spot - and believe me, I see them frequently. Everyone wants to cry "poor me" when u don't even have a clue about life obviously. U no doubt would be surprised at how hard handicapped people work, and what they accomplish for the likes of people like you. Some of you are pathetic & need to look inside yourself to see if maybe, just maybe there's a heart in there somewhere. If u think you are a REAL working American and they aren't, chances are you're the least of all people. Ur almost saying that they aren't as good as you are. Couldn't be that, could it?

Re: Jehmz – - #18 …Just so that you know, a person with developmental disabilities is not necessarily mentally ill. It is a more polite word for mental retardation - and hey everyone, I'm using the term in the medical sense, where it is still used as a diagnosis. The people you lived near may or may not have been developmentally disabled. Don't mix the two. I know a bit about this because my son is developmentally disabled. Our society needs support those who need it. This looks like a wonderful cause, I hope Perez will give more than a plug.

Re: Jehmz – There is a difference between people who are mentally ill and those who are developmentally disabled. If you are going to make derogatory remarks about people why don't you educate youself and get your facts right. Just for the record most crimes are committed by seemingly "normal" people.

Perez, thank you for highlighting this. I live in hampton Roads and completely agree with A Per.

I'm friends with the people who run this organization and my parents are very involved as well. The people who are running this are devoted completely with their hearts and not in it for the $. I can guarantee that. Everyone involved is involved because they believe in the cause and not for "kick backs" or cuts of the proceeds.

THIS really warmed my heart. I saw "hope house" and got little butterflies immediately. I'm very familiar with this place since I hail from that area. This foundation is sooo wonderful and its great to see these people living independent lives. This place helps them acheive and learn how. Just because someone has a "handicap" does NOT make them non-human (to all you rude rude people out there!) One girl whom us "Ghent-ies" refer to as Hollywood is SUCH a sweet sweet bubbly girl who is a fixture at the local coffeehouse here *woot woot*. Her smile and hello ALWAYS brightens my day. Total Rockstar! Thank you for bringing attention to this organization. Soo Soo much!

Perez posted this free of charge, contract, or any obligation. It's a charitable act on their part. Thank goodness charity and support exist, because reviewing some of these posts unveils such a high percentage of uneducated and angry folks, it's really depressing. Hope House Foundation is fantastic, and there's never been a murder of anyone Hope House supports, Jehmz.

  49. Jenbi says – reply to this

    49

Thank you for promoting such a good cause on your site. National organizations do a lot of good work, but it's LOCAL organizations like these that can make real, immediate change in people's lives.
A lot of the commenters here, aside from those who are being just plain old mean-spirited and childish just to get a laugh or draw attention to themselves, are under serious misconceptions about developmentally disabled adults, perhaps through no fault of their own. If you haven't personally known someone who is disabled, it can be easy to dismiss them as laughable, insane, or just one step above animals.

There are some tragic cases of severe mental retardation where the sufferers require constant care. These are not the cases that organizations like Hope House deal with. Many mildly to moderately retarded adults hold jobs and are perfectly able to take care of themselves, but need some extra help and supervision in order to live on their own. One of the greatest threats these adults face is being taken advantage of by malicious people who try to dupe them out of money or cause them harm.

  50. jenbi says – reply to this

    50

So before you jump to conclusions, do the kind thing and think about what life is like for developmentally disabled people and the families who love and support them. Understand that charities like Hope House are not robbing you of your tax dollars - giving to organizations like these is a choice. Besides, these people are workers and taxpayers too. Also, developmentally disabled adults that can live in these situations are not "playing with poo"; anyone who is that severely affected needs much more supervision.

Sometimes it's overwhelming to be presented with so many worthwhile causes of people in need, when all of us are struggling to pay the bills and put gas in the car. But it's nice to read about them and know that there are people out there working to help others. You should try to help people around you or causes that YOU care about, accepting that you will never be able to help everyone and nobody expects you to. If you don't have money, you can always give your time and effort. I think Perez is doing a good thing by highlighting these causes, because many of them we would never hear about otherwise.

My son has autism, what's their excuse?

  56. oooOO says – reply to this

    56

A lot of fucking people need help with their living situation and with money, not just fucking retards. They should get jobs like the rest of us and stop begging for money. If the cant work, then they shouldnt be living on their own anyway. There are far better worthwhile charities out there.

There is NO WAY IN HELL anyone should donate to the world's superpower. war mongering elitist pricks. You think your government cares? Change your government.

Perez, thank you for mentioning a very great organization located on the south side of Hampton Roads. I am a local to that area and now live in Tampa Bay. It warms my heart to know that people care. As a hairdresser we provided salon services to many of the clients at the Hope house. Many are able to work to help support themselves. (That does a lot for a persons self esteem) :) Thanks Again!
