Christina Morta was arrested in Miami for operating what appeared to be a brothel on wheels.

Said bus contained five prostitutes on board that made regular stops along South Beach.
A Miami detective said, "One of our undercover officers saw the bus driving up and down Collins Avenue, was able to get on the bus for a certain amount of money, and saw the illegal activity going on inside."
The creative madame charged $40 for patrons to board the quarter million-dollar bus.
Once on board, prostitutes reportedly received even more money for performing lap dances and various sex acts.

In some countries, brothels are legal if licensed. Prostitution is not known "as the oldest profession in the world" for nothing. It will exist despite pathetic attempts by law enforcers to eradicate it, when it is the women who usually get arrested, and their male "customers" get off scot free. Morals aside, legalizing brothels removes the organised crime aspect that is so often associated with them, and gives the women a safe environment in which to work, including regular health checks. Also, the location of brothels is controlled in that they cannot be in a residential area, near schools, etc. Of course, there are women who choose to work outside the law, and put themselves at risk as a result. I can't see this happening in the United States, however, with the influence the lunatic, bible-bashing sector has there.

Re: Kiki – Hmmmm the thing is in places like Holland where lisenced prostitution is legal, there is still alot of abuse and human trafficking. Most of the prostitutes are from eastern europe and the far east and are horribly exploited. The fact is you cannot clean up prostitution. Its a dirty exploitative business and the men who pay for sex often get off on the exploitation. I'm not Christian or anything but I am a feminist and I just don't think legalising prostitution is healthy for a country's view on womens rights.

What you say is true re Europe. I live in Australia and the same happens to South East Asian women, particularly from Thailand. However, I believe that human trafficking would occur regardless of the legal status of prostitution. What legalization does is protect the women working in licensed premises. These are checked regularly. Of course there will always be those operating outside of the law. Also, being able to work legally means women are not hanging around on streets being picked up by anybody and put at extreme personal risk. No, women selling their bodies for sex does not fit with my feminist ideals either, but as you point out, while it is illegal it is the women and not their male "customers" who generally bear the brunt of being arrested. Legalizing brothels has certainly not made the situation perfect here, and probably never will, but it is a step in the right direction in trying to regulate prostitution, giving the women protection and trying to remove the criminal element. Just because it isn't perfect doesn't mean it isn't worth a try. After all, the system in the US is certainly not working for anyone, except perhaps the criminal element who make money out of it.
