Setting The Record Straight
We're not quite sure why he felt compelled to do this, but Russell Simmon's publicist just sent us the following open letter from the hip hop mogul.
He says:
"Friends of mine have forwarded me gossip online about my custody agreement details with Kimora. The fact is, we've had a pretty good partnership at sharing the girls in the past. There have been a few bumps in the road, and those bumps have led us to negotiate a minimum amount of time I'm guaranteed to see my kids. That deal is as follows: I have the girls one full week out of every eight, half of the summer, half of all the holidays, a full week at Christmas, and half of Spring Break. Like in all good partnerships, contracts are meant to protect the partners but are usually not the only way the partners work together. If I show up in L.A., where she now lives, unannounced, I can call up Kimora and she will most likely send them right over. The same goes for when she comes to New York. We have always had a school in New York and a school with the same curriculum in L.A., so when the girls are with me in New York, we can spend quality time together. I can get up with them, take them to school and just be together.
Kimora consults with me about doctors or schools for the girls, but she's always had final say in those areas. If we had an argument about a school, guess who's going to win? But there are other stipulations in our agreement where we have to make final decisions together. Anything having to do with business decisions pertaining to my kids cannot be done without my consent.
I've also seen a lot about people reading into the supervised visits stipulation. Kimora travels with a security guard and a nanny. In the past, she's gotten really nervous that I never travel with security, so if it makes her more comfortable to have her security and a nanny with us when I'm with my kids, that's OK with me.
Finally, I want to say Kimora is a excellent mother and is doing a great job with them. My kids are studying a couple of foreign languages, they travel around the world, they practice yoga, ballet, swimming, karate and piano, among other things…sometimes I think they do too much, but I trust in Kimora on this because she IS a good mother. Regarding the money, my kids live a tremendous life. They do have lots of security, nannies, educators, special programs, travel, chefs, on and on. Their mother manages all of those luxuries and I'm happy to provide for that.

Why would Kimora be pissed? I see nothing wrong with the letter. It seems that his intention was to set the record straight - to end the gossip. It's all seems very amicable and mature to me.

Why would she be pissed? He's doing nothing but saying is the one in the end who makes decisions, that they work together, and that she is a good mother. They are an example of how adults should act when going through a divorce. Perhaps he's trying to set the record straight because so often we like to have nasty storylines with our celebrities and he's pointing out… that is not the case. I think she should be flattered.

I think it's sweet that they share such a good arrangement and he's open about that. I do the same with my ex. It's not worth fighting over, like Denise & whats-his-face are. Maybe some comments were directed at him that put him in a bad light and he wants to set it straight.
There's nothing there for anyone to be "pissed" about. Simmons is showing that they are both being responsible parents and putting their girls' best interest at the forefront. I think it's great that Simmons is potraying Kimora in a positive light. The only people who are going to be "pissed" are the ones trying to spread rumours and erroneous information.

Why in the world would you suggest that she is going to be pissed about that? I think it was a wonderful letter and shows how mature he is. Seriously, wow. That was an awesome letter. He went into all the details so that gossip columnists, no names mentioned, would know the whole truth so no more slander occurs. Divorce is a hard, hard thing for all parties involved–I couldnt imagine having it played out in the media.

Here is a couple who is divorced. They both seem to respect each other especially thinking of the children which of course is for most important. It does seem that Russell knows that Kimora is a responsible parent that is why she gets the final say. It is good to hear that divorce does not have to vicious unlike the Richards vs. Sheen. Now that is a totally different story. I wish Kimora and Russell the best with there future so far so good. BTW it was good to hear Russell say that his kids do way too much that is a parent that really knows how kids are especially his own!
i think he sent it because what you had posted awhile ago made it seem like he wasn't allowed to see them for some dark hidden reason. because i mean even though him and kimora are no longer together they still try to be nice for the kids, so i was kind of shocked that he had LIMITED visitation. it seemed like britney visits, but him clarifying it makes it seem like kimora is less of a beach. and makes him sound less shady, hahaha. so i'm thinking that it may be to repair what damage was done to their image.

He is just explaining the situation so there will be no further speculation in regards to the arrangements. At first glance - when you see the results of the agreement, one might think, 'wow that's harsh - only 1 week out of 8, he needs security and a nanny when he sees them.. woah'- when in reality, the security and nanny are just a part of the team that they have to create a safe environment for the children. Well since everyone was reporting non truths he felt he had to set the record straight which he did. I think it was to the point a lil long but to the point. I am glad he is trying his best to keep things KOSHER between him and his children mom for the girls sake. I agree with him KS has those girls doing the most but like he said what can he do she has final say. I was just talking about her getting sole custody this morning with a coworker so to read his detailed explanation is refreshing. It explains sooooooooooo much. I always thought she was a good mother and they are both very busy professionals. I just didn't understand why he wouldn't get joint custody of his children. It's so rare for two good parents, for one to get sole custody. I know he loves his girls, so I couldn't understand the sole custody thing. Now that he has explained everything, I can fully understand. My ex husband ..did not attempt to get joint custody of our two daughters and I always felt like my girls were cheated, altho he is a very loving father to them. But…I know he knows that I am a good mother and he trusts me in raising them..and he just enjoys his visitation..and seeing our beautiful daughters walk thru the door every few months….progressing towards being very intelligent, beautiful, well polished girls. I'm sure the kids are generally ok, but as a teacher, I have to say, NO two schools have the exact same curriculum. I'm sure Russell is trying to make himself feel better about
the kids jumping back and forth between two schools. It;s probably not a disaster, but it can't be easy for the girls, academically or socially. Tho having that much money ensures everyone at both schools will haul ass to make it easier for the kids.
I'm sure he just wants everyone to know that his kids are happy. He wants everyone to know that he's trying his best to be a great dad despite a bad situation and there is nothing wrong with that.
