I just wonder if there would be as much of a buzz about this batman film if Heath hadn't died, would people still be as eager to see it? and would they be raving about his apparently oscar worthy performance?
I don't think they would. If he wins the oscar posthumously I would be worried that he only got it because he died, and not because he truly deserved it.

This movie had MAJOR BUZZ before Heath Ledger died so I dont think his death would effect him getting an Oscar or not. I was going to see this movie regardless of what happened.

    13. 13

I don´t think they give away oscars just because they feel sorry for someone who past away..

I hate to say it, but Heath Ledger's death has nothing to do with the anticipation. Furthermore, he was getting Oscar Buzz before his death.

i agree with karl, come on, would there be "oscar buzz" if heath was still alive??? doubtful….and NO i had not heard anything about this movie until after his death soooo….it is very sad, sad that his little girl has to grow up without her father, but he basically killed himself…..it happens too often in hollywood…it's a true shame, but i can't be sad…

Re: bosto – Would there be an oscar buzz? YES you idiot! There was much anticipation BEFORE his death about this movie. Stop assuming you know everything when your wrong. & BTW ppl die all the time over mixing drugs and 9 times out of 10 its accidental.

    27. wtf says – reply to this

      27

WTF is wrong with the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science??? Seriously! Don't get all crazy on me yet, I love Heath Ledger too but does anyone remember how he lost out for his role in Brokback Mountain?!

As a straight person, I thought that was an amazing performance and would be hard for any straight individual to portray, Heath did it with finesse. Now because he has passed, they want to make it up to him posthumously?!

Just goes to show that they don't consider ones talents until they are no longer around. Heath should have got his Oscar a long time ago, they better not fuck this one up.

      Just a humble opinion.

    37. 37

yes it's sad he bit the big one and everything but…oscar buzz for his performance? As the joker? Seriously? uhmm…let's all jump on the "Dead Heath Ledger Band Wagon". I'm not being insensitive…It's a performance of the Joker…Oscar worthy? Probably not. People wanting to bleed this Heath Ledger thing dry? Yeah. Would anyone other than comic book reading dork faces really give a rats ass about his performance as the joker if he were still alive? Nope.

Re: bosto – Yes there would be Oscar Buzz or at least a sell out weekend. AND HE DID NOT BASICALLY kill himself. Check out the Corner's report. No illegal drugs were present in his system, they were all legally provided from, unfortunately, Dr's in two countries. Yes he dabbled, haven't you ever?? If not, you're a Saint and/or very sheltered. Yes, he was a troubled soul as the many, many great actors are. But his movies did attract hugh crowds and he was and always will be popular, My son is a 'minor' actor, compared to Heath and they were at the same 'parties' bars, 'clubs' etc. many times in NYCITY and he knew him and said you couldn't help but want to be around him even when he was down. He adored Matilda and loved Michelle still. He had demons, but in the end, they did not kill him, the wrong combination of meds did. Have a heart please and have a nice weekend as well. marci in Ct.

Re: Karl – I think people would, personally I think that Christian Bale has done an outstanding job. I feel that this Batman adaptation is so much better than those other prior attempts. Even before Heath died there was a buzz going around about his performance, whether the academy was going to pick up on it or not is anyone’s guess. I think Christian Bale should be up for one also, he is a great actor and has proved it in almost all that he has been in. I am sure that some people are just curious, but I think that most people would go even if this tragedy had taken place ’cause they liked the first adaptation so much.

don't think they wanted KH back for the others. She has too much baggage that goes where she goes. Yes, I wonder too if there would be as much interest in the movie if Heath didn't die. Same thing with the oscar talk. There will never be an opportunity to honor him again, so he probably will get a nomination. The movie will do huge too as this is one of the last times to see him.

Heck yeah people would still go!

Heath isn't only getting buzz because he died, he's getting buzz because he's a really freaking awesome actor. He really patched up the horrid job Burton did with The Joker in the first Batman, and a bunch of comic book junkies are DROOLING over the fantastic job Ledger is doing portraying The Joker as the dark, sinister eff up he was in the comic books.
I was definately going to go see it before his death. :D

Re: GingerNutz – You are an idiot. You haven't even seen the film. Watch the movie trailer and close your mouth, because even in those few minutes you can tell that Heath's performance is beyond anything he's previously done. There has been buzz surrounding this movie for a year, if not longer- way before Heath Ledger's death. And the Batman movies always open big; it's fucking BATMAN.

I don't know why, but seeing him like that with that make-up just.. really really creeps me out. And I don't know how well I'll be able to stomach it for the whole movie. But I'm thinking I'll just force myself to get over it and see it, because it really DOES look like an insanely fantastic performance, and DEF an Oscar-worthy one :) (and :( at the same time)
