I think she sounds great. She looks like she could break at any moment though, a gust of wind would blow her away.
I question the choice of song in her current situation, though. Saying firmly no to rehab on worldwide television is not great.
Considering her addiction, this is a great performance. give her a break.

I don't think it was TOTALLY a hot mess. I mean, her other performance where her voice was fucked up was TERRIBLE! This time her hair & makeup looked good…and at least she wasn't doing drugs on stage! She's not a big fan of ANNUNCIATION but her voice sounded clear enough…and she was breathing!! I HEART AMY!
Let's be fair here. The woman is struggling with an extreme addiction. She's under huge speculation, and her first foray in a long time into a highly pressured performance situation is one where millions will be watching over the world…the same millions who speculate about her severe drug use and resulting health problems. Seems fairly obvious that she must be shitting herself, and that is hardly going to bring about a strongly voiced performance. At least she doesn't look wasted…

Have you ever seen a performance by her? This is what ALL of them have been like since the start of this album. It's the style and approach that made her famous…not a by product of her rapid fall. This is just what she does. NOTHING NEW HERE. MOVE ON.

The performance was good. Something to be proud of. When Blake gets out he will be done with me emotionally in a week but the parasitic part will stay on for ever. How to I break this everything and still stand?

In addition to her well-documented substance abuse problems, I believe Amy might have a good dose of stage fright. She started off a little slowly, but got better and better with every line she sang. "Valerie" was great, and she was super with "Free Nelson Mandela." If the show's organizers had felt she was a "hot mess," they wouldn't have allowed her to be front & centre during the finale. And her skin, clothes, makeup and that crazy hair all looked A-1!!
Thaz a mess but at least that's one of the best show she done since a while.

I just think it is wrong for them to have even booked her. This isn't an issue of her talent. It is an issue of life & death. People are enabling her to do drugs to the point where she is going to kill herself - this isn't recreational. Her life is worth more than her career & the money she is making people. When she performs it is like her management just props her up & tells her to go. She looks scared & clueless. Her complete lifestyle is unhealthy from the crack, cutting & her bulimia to the filth she lives in. We are patting her on the back & asking her to perform at huge events like this & the grammys. The message should instead be - take care of yourself & when you get healthy all the accolades that your talent merits will be here but until then we aren't going to promote/condone your path of self destruction. It makes me so sad I can barely watch her.

I think she did well with all things considered. She mumbled a lot, look unsteady on her feet and generally didn't appear like she was feeling well, but the gal is going through a lot. I give her props for showing up.

Perez, I have never commented on your site before, but I do feel that your criticism of Amy's performance is a little unreasonable. As with live performances by many artists, it can often be disappointing for the fans when the performance strays a lot from the studio recording, but that's the nature of live performances, and is what Amy has always done when singing live, even when sober! She was relatively tuneful, had made at least a decent effort with her appearance (tanned instead of pasty, relatively tasteful clothing), didn't mumble incoherently to the crowd, appeared relatively sober and even threw in some questionable dance moves! Regardless, her rendition of 'Free Nelson Mandela' was fantastic. I think celebrities and artists are fair game for criticism if their performance is pathetic, but… what an immense success considering she's just been released from hospital with traces of emphysema! Good for her, a step in the right direction.
