Everyone Wants a Piece of the Comeback Spotlight

This could be good…or really bad!

Molly Ringwald revealed in a recent interview that she would be up for doing a Sixteen Candles sequel.

Ringwald says, "It was something that I definitely wanted to do, but [writer-director] John Hughes wasn't interested, and I didn't feel comfortable doing it without his involvement. If we can get John to agree, I think it would be great. I think there are definitely a lot of people who would love to see it, and I would love to do it."

Perhaps, John Hughes knows what's best. Why mess with a classic?

What are your thoughts?

Do y'all want to see a sequel????

Re: hater – The most recent thing Hughes has done is Maid In Manhattan, & maybe a couple of other flicks.

I would only see the remake if it included Ringwald, the guy who played Jake Ryan & Anthony Michael Hall

Hells yes….I'd watch it. Right about now all the eighties kids are getting nostalgic. IF DONE PROPERLY, it could be fab. Don't just do it for the sake of doing it though, and have it wind up complete shite.

Re: ae – Who are you and how old are you???? 12????? This was a HUGE hit in the 80s and while I don't think a sequel is a good idea, there are many people in their 30s/40s who are nostalgic for their teen years. Trust me - you will be too. Don't be so naive to think that only teens contribute to the economy (via music, art, clothes, etc.) Adults with jobs and money contribute as well…..

a sequel, if directed by Hughes, would rock!!!

One of my favorites… I watched it just a few days ago on cable.. No remake, it was just right the way it was! I have already sent an email to all my girlfriends about her new show that starts tomorrow night. We are watching because of Molly and no other reason. She is who we related to growing up and now we can relate to her as mothers.

They really should have had an immediate follow-up. It could have dealt with their relationship. As to someone who said they should do it with a new generation, no way. Re: ae – I know it might be hard for you to believe but, the world was spinning long before you came onto the scene. As a matter of fact you came into the world when the party started winding down! There are people who were here before you and there's a lot of them! You were probably sitting in your shitty diapers when the movie was out or perhaps just a horny thought in your paternal unit's mind. I do think they SHOULD NOT remake 16 candles. BUT, I do think it would be interesting to see an updated 21st century version of it.

I've been hearing and reading about rumors of a sequel — always called "32 Candles" in the articles — for around 8 years now. So I doubt that it's truly going to happen. However, they did the same with Dirty Dancing, rumoring it for years, saying that Ricky Martin and Natalie Portman were the stars, and then it came out years and years after I read about it… I dunno about this though. If it's a retelling-with-an-awesome-twist type of thing, like Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights was, then I'm all for it. If it's something like the title "32 Candles"suggests, NO! They have to consider their target audiences and what they want… So I doubt that John Hughes would stoop to that.
