Many have speculated that the school Will Smith and her husband, Jada, are opening in LA this September is really a Scientology indoctrination center.
In an LA Times report , the head mistress of HanCOCK's school basically says the Scientology school front talk is nonsense.
She says the school's teachers are of all religions and that one of the teaching methods the school will be employing ('study technology') is erroneously attributed to Scientology. The school boss says, "People tend to think study technology is a subject, but it is really just the way the subject is taught. They then come to the conclusion that we are teaching Scientology when actually a methodology doesn't have anything to do with content."
The paper goes on to point out that critics argue Will's school is not being honest about its links to Scientology.
David S. Touretzky, a professor of computer science at Carnegie Mellon University, created a website that dissects study technology and asserts that in the case of the Smiths' school, it is Scientology religion disguised as education.
The Prof said many phrases and concepts on the school's website are specific to Scientology.
For example, the school lists a "Director of Qualifications" and another teacher who is an assistant in the "Qual" department. The "Qual," said Touretzky, is where people who have completed a Scientology counseling, or "auditing," session or a course in the Church of Scientology are tested by a qualifications teacher.
"There is no reputable educator anywhere who endorses [study technology]," said Touretzky, a critic of Scientology. "What happens is that children are inculcated with Scientology jargon and are led to regard L.R. Hubbard as an authority figure. They are laying the groundwork for later bringing people into Scientology."
Ron Reynolds, executive director of the California Assn. of Private School Organizations, which represents primarily independent religious schools, tells the Times that all schools should strive for transparency.
"I know next to nothing about Scientology, but if you're using some method or technology closely associated with Scientology and Scientology is characterized as a church or religious body, it raises a question if they proclaim themselves as other than religious," Reynolds said.
He has not seen the school's website but went on to say, "I don't want to insinuate the school is failing to disclose anything. But as a matter of good practice, if a school has an affiliation, it would behoove it to expose it."

For us in France, Scientology is a sect and all its activities is watch. I know you Americans are very keen into protect the freedom concerning religions (Mostly because of ancestor of Europeans), but I don't know if it weren't good to do like old Europ…

Surely Will Smith doesn't think people are so stupid as to believe this public relations bullcrap. If the school uses scientology's study tech then money goes to the cult, plain and simple. Even the school itself is organzied and managed using the cult of scientology's management principals. The only place you will find an organization using the words Qual and Ethics is in this cult. I worked at a charter school teaching 3rd grade. Within about 3 months I figured out that it was a Scientology school. Very cult like!! It is called Scottsdale Horizons Charter School. It's located in Scottsdale, AZ. I'm surprised every time I read an article in the paper about bad charter schools that it hasn't been mentioned. Very shady stuff going on there!
To even call it "study technology" is ridiculous. If it were a "pedagogical model" or "inplememntive strategy" or anything else it might get a pass, but the normalization of jargon into a culture implies the normalization of the group that the jargon comes from. No one refers to methods of any kind in the academic world as "technologies." This is a Scientology word and is obviously connected to Scientology inextricably.

L.Ron Hubbard had a long rap sheet and was apparently quite insane. I did a paper on Dianetics in college and thought it was the most ridiculous book I'd ever read. (my professor agreed!) It's so sad that so many actors are so insecure with themselves that they cling to an absurd cult to "belong". If Scientology is legit why is always disguised, hidden and shady? Took me less than 5 minutes on the school's website to find jargon used on the Scientology website.
"he or she is gently re-taught until ready to move on." from the school, which is a something that Scientology teaches.
"We emphasize that children look up the words they don’t know in the dictionary as opposed to looking for context clues right away" from the school, but this is stressed by LRH in his Dianetics book. Oh, boy.

Why pretend the school isn't a scientology indoctrination center? Once they open up for business in the fall, won't it become clear they are a school founded on the principles of L.R. Hubbard? And besides, public schools offer waaaay more than private schools, at least around here, and guess what…theyre free!!

L Ron Hubbard was not the first person to come up with these teaching methods. These have been used in private ($$$$) schools in Seattle for decades. My son went to one. The hands on approach, mastering levels and all the other big world stuff. It works and creates really bright successful kids, makes it kind of hard to assimilate into the public education system tho. Do people forget that Hubbard was a great sci fi writer? Unfortunately he wanted to live his stories now.
