Critics aren't the only ones fawning over the new Batman movie!
Director Kevin Smith just saw the film and he raved about it on his blog.
He says:
"Courtesy of Peter Sciretta over at SlashFilm.com, I caught an early screening of "The Dark Knight" yesterday evening.Without giving anything away, this is an epic film (and trust me: based on the sheer size and scope of the visuals and storytelling, that's not an overstatement). It's the "Godfather II" of comic book films and three times more earnest than "Batman Begins" (and fuck, was that an earnest film). Easily the most adult comic book film ever made. Heath Ledger didn't so much give a performance as he disappeared completely into the role; I know I'm not the first to suggest this, but he'll likely get at least an Oscar nod (if not the win) for Best Supporting Actor. Fucking flick's nearly three hours long and only leaves you wanting more (in a great way). I can't imagine anyone being disappointed by it. Nolan and crew have created something close to a masterpiece."

Saw a mucho early screening myself, and give it 8 out of 10. Very good movie: engaging and absorbing, but comparing it to the Godfather? This movie isn't as epic or nearly as good. The Dark Knight isn't even the best movie so far this summer or year. That is reserved alone for Iron Man; which while not as cinematically compelling, it's simply a much better (more enjoyable) movie. I certainly wouldn't trust much of what Kevin Smith says as a mediocre filmmaker himself. MTV and Rolling Stone, in my mind, have probably given the film one of the more accurate reviews to date. I'd still wait for reviews by ordinary people who haven't been wined and dined by the movie studio. Warner bros has pulled out all the stops to sell their product… not that anything Ledger isn't already flying off the shelves.
Is all this praise for Health for an exceptional performance or sympathy for his untimely death? I sincerely hope it's for the former.
It would be nice if this movie didn't suck, like most blunt and stupid superhero movies (Spiderman, Ironman, Catwoman, Daredevil, Electra…etc. etc.)
The first 2 Batman films are the best superhero movies ever made…….Nolan might be able to reach up to Burtons level.

Man, they are REALLY pushing this flick. It will be interesting to see what critics and industry types consider an 'A +' movie since they pan everything else.
Normally when something is this hyped up I actually AVOID watching it. Anything the machine is too eager to sell to the masses should be treated with caution.

I would have to agree with Kevin! I have attended a private screening and the movie is AMAZING! It is unfortunate about Heath's death but this is definitely a great performance and movie to be remembered by your fans and colleagues!!!!!!

Yes I know my opinion will get lost in the shuffle and I know no one will care but I just have to say I saw one on the trailer's for The Dark Knight before Heath Ledger died and right away I told my husband we have to see this movie when it comes out. I'm not really a fan of these types of movies but I was impressed with what little I saw of Heath's performance. There was just something about it. As far as the hype he's getting I'm not sure if it's because he died or if it is just a great performance from him. I would like to think it's for his great acting. We'll soon find out. I miss you Heath!
