On Tuesday, Heath Ledger's hometown of Perth, Australia, named a theater in his honor for his commitment to acting.
According to reports, an $87 million, 575-seat facility was named the Heath Ledger Theater and serves as a fitting tribute because Ledger was always supportive of other young actors.
Kim Ledger, the late actor's father, called the tribute a pleasant surprise.
"He was such a giver to the arts right across the board. I really feel that there's not a lot of things he'd put his name to, but he'd put his name to that," said the elder Ledger, who attended Tuesday's ceremony.
Ledger's portrayal of the Joker in the soon-to-be released film the Dark Knight is already generating Oscar buzz.
His family is rumored to be attending the NYC premiere later this month.

man, my computer is slow as hell, anyway…I have always been a huge fan of Heath Ledger since I first saw that film with him and Mel Gibson (how sad i can't remember it!-really tho i am a fan) AFter that I watched that movie numerous times and I loved him and his work ever since. I was extremely jealous when he started dating Michelle…(lol yeah i know but just the fact) But i ended up taking up for her and very happy for her lil family. I feel SOOOOOOO bad for that lil girl to have to grow up without a pop. especially without someone like HIM.

Heath Ledger was a very talented and promising young actor.
He did NOT die of a drug overdose, get the facts straight!
Since filming I'm Not There and after The Dark Knight, Heath struggled with insommnia and because of this, was prescribed various sleep aid medications.
While filming Dr. Parnassus, Heath got pneumonia and was prescribed other medications while still taking the sleeping prescriptions. It was not a suicide, if anyone is to blame it was his doctor's who didn't warn him not to mix the medications.
Heath put his life into great roles and created memorable characters in movies such as Brokeback Mountain, I'm Not There, Candy, Monster's Ball, and The Dark Knight..just to name a few.
I'm so sick of you ignorant people talking shit about a person you never even knew, a person who unlike most in hollywood, tried his best to stay under the radar and out of the public eye.
I hope there is a place in hell for all of you ignorant assholes!

It is interesting the way the hype surrounding this guy's death has elevated him to some sort of demi-god status. Sure he had personal problems, and was using drugs (prespcription or otherwise) to cope, and somehow he took a dose which killed him. Perez, you put down and jeer at other people who have drug problems, and make news out of them entering rehab to try to kick their problems. At least they have the guts to do that. This guy obviously didn't or wouldn't get the help he needed and left a young daughter fatherless as a result. Yes it is sad that a young man has died, particularly for his family, but that's where it ends. All this ridiculous public outpouring of grief and naming places in his honour is just so over the top.

Here (in Perth, my hometown) this is causing a massive up roar. Everyone is staying that Carpenter shouldn't have taken it upon himself to make such a decision. I live in Perth and this is not true - it was a rumour that was going around. Heath was a film actor not a stage performer…not going to happen…Love him or not…it isn't true. The director of the theater has said this was a popular rumour but has not basis in fact…
