The New Madonna

Another artist is joining Live Nation.
This time, it's Latin sensation Shakira!
The pop star is close to signing a contract with the concert promoters which includes recording, touring, and merchandising.
The deal is said to be in the multi-million dollar range and should be finalized before the end of the year.
Some reports are estimating she'll be receiving $70 million, though others estimate it's closer to $90M.
Live Nation and Shakira have worked together in the past when they handled the US Leg of her Oral Fixation tour last year.
Reports were that the tour made more than $100M.
Seems like Live Nation made a good investment in Shaki!

Re: aneur – I agree. What she does it not worth that kind of money. It's the same with so-called sport stars. However it has nothing to do with the intrinsic worth or what these people do. They are paid for the money they can potentially generate for the company, particularly through advertising. Signing a deal like this means the company basically owns them, and will control their artistic output and touring schedule, as well as making appearances and endorsing products of the company's choosing. She would not be free to make money or endorse products outside of her contract. If people were paid for the intrinsic value of their work, singers and other entertainers would certainly not be at the top of the list! Teachers, doctors, nurses, firemen, aide workers, medical researchers, etc, etc, do far more for the advancement and well-being of society, but their incomes are very modest compared to what top entertainers are paid. However they are of no use in terms of generating revenue for corporations so they will never be paid such outrageous sums of money. It's a strange world we live in, but I guess that's the free market and capitalism at work, no matter how immoral it seems.

LiveNation also owns MusicToday which runs store websites for major artists. I have been a customer at the official Rolling Stones store for years. These '360' deals with Madonna, Shakira, and others (including Stones rumours) when combined with their internal order fullfillment and impending ticket sales are setting LiveNation up for a big future.
I have always considered TicketBastard to be a monopoly. They've literally had no competition since the days of Ticketron. It'll be good to see them faced with the opposition.

Shakira has more talent in her pinkie toe than Madonna has in her whole body. She's bi-lingual (actually she speaks French well too), writes almost in two genres for her separate linguistic audiences, is a phenomenal dancer, ten times more talented than Madonna in the dance department, has a phenomenally powerful voice, is a prolific song writer (GOOD songs, too, of all different kinds), etc, etc, etc. I understand they are both now with Live Nation but bite your tongue comparing them in any other way. Aye Carumba.

You need to get Fijacion Oral and give it a listen and check out the translated lyrics then you will see. Shakira wrote an awful song because she knows Americans are retards, she is that smart, but she doesn't have to dumb herself down for her Spanish fans, thank god. Check out La Tortura from the Spanish half of that double album. And sorry, but english is clunky and monosyllabic, to use an old example, you will never hear an english song sound this lyrically melodic but that is the fault of the language:

It's great for Shakira! besides, she always helps the needed with her omney, for example, the huge school she's building in her city for her foundation, her visits to Bangladesh and China, she's very humble and she's extraordinarily talented, I have seen her on both her US tour concerts in my area and she's simply the best!
