Come Fly With Me

When they run out of ideas, people tend to do remakes.

And that's just what's being done.

Set to premier Wednesday at Paris' Theatre du Chatelet will be the opera adaption of David Cronenberg's 1986 horror flick, The Fly.

Cronenberg will also be directing the show.

The opera will even include tenor Placido Domingo conducting a score by Oscar-winning composer Howard Shore, from The Lord of the Rings.

All-stars!

Cronenberg says, "Someone's 6-year-old said, after seeing one of our rehearsals, that she thought she would have to sleep with her parents for a while, so I guess it's working."

And don't worry, the show will be coming to the US!

It's set to make it's premier here on September 7th at the Los Angeles Opera.

Let's hope the opera lives up to the movie.

Please Perez . . . . . the 1986 was a remake. The original was 1958, so the opera is correct in it's setting of the 1950's.

But the question is why do it???

yea, and the 80's version was based on the *original* 1958 movie directed by kurt nuemann.
it may be recycled, but the production sounds like an interesting take on the franchise

Damn I wish we had Broadway in Australia! I would definitaly go and see this show! One of my fave old school horrors! Though I hope it would not have the same effect it had on me when I also saw it first at age 6… took me years to get rid of my fear of flies and basically covering myself in fly-screen lol

      You DUMBASS!

The pic you are displaying is NOT from Cronenberg's movie at all but the 1989 sequel by Chris Walas!

Eric Stoltz played the SON, not the original Dr. Brundle - Mario, you moron! And NONE of the characters or basic plot are Cronenberg's idea at all - but from a 1950's movie.

QUIT BEING SO STUPID - do a Google search, you lazy COW!

As odd as this opera sounds, chandes are it will be good. A family friend composed an opera about the LIzzie Borden story, cast his wife as the main (and only) character in the opera. and it was great. It pops up on PBS from time to time.

So what does that disgusting person above mean, why is his picture being shown? Is he the fly? A fly has more MAN COJONES than this thing person will EVER grow in 10 lifetimes. Disgusting.

I'm pretty sure Carri is referring to David as being her friend's dad.

Carri, you friends with Cait or Bran?

I"m pretty excited about this project, David is a cool guy and I know he'll do a fantastic job with this production. Yes, the fly was a remake, but a great remake at that.
I hope he plans on doing production here in Toronto eventually with this.

Howard Shore is the most brilliant film composer today. The Lord of the Rings score was unbelievable. I look forward to this opera!
