Multimillionaire Jay Z has been sued by current and former employees of his NYC club 40/40, according to reports.
The employees claim they were denied hourly wages and forced to be compensated by customer tips alone.
WTF?
They also assert that they were forced to pay for breaks, spills, and "walkouts" on the job.
The report goes on to say that hundreds of former employees could be eligible to collect on the claims if their case wins in court.
Things aren't looking good for Hova.
The source claims that a federal judge has admitted the club owners violated federal labour laws after reviewing an earnings report for at least two workers who showed they were not paid for overtime at the venue. The judge said, "The record contains corroborating evidence of the allegations."
Such disappointing news.

I'm sure it is his management company that works for the club and most likely doesn't have a whole lot to do with Jay-Z's decisions. He just needs to get a better management team for the club so this crap doesn't happen again.
hmm…I worked at a sports bar- and I was paid $3.13 an hour + tips. and we were responsible for drinks we dropped or spilled- but obviously it didnt happen much so the occasional drink/ rder dropped was covered by the bar.
Never had a walkout. I always took a credit card- so if anyone walked out Id swipe it and still give myself a tip:)

Sorry to break it to you, but most clubs in NYC have fuked up rules. Some dont pay hourly wages, others take a percentage of your tips, you get called in at all times of the night. Thats what its like working in clubs. If people dont like it, dont work in that club. Most people would kill for the amount of money batrenders and waitresses make in NYC clubs… dont like it, good theres more for me.

I read a similar article in a Las Vegas newspaper about how he fucked over a bunch of employees at his Vegas 4040 also. Supposedly they overstaffed the club for New Years Eve and then fired a bunch of people the next week-people that relocated to vegas from all over the country to work there and also signed contracts where they couldnt work for other clubs either. SHADY! I'm a cocktail waitress at a club…that sucks.
Ugh, this reminds me of a former gig I had in my late teens..
I was a bartender at a seedy sports bar owned by an older couple from Spain. They would also make us pay for breaks and walkouts. Once I had to pay these douches $120 bar tab because they walked out on me on a very busy night (we were always wayyy understaffed). That was pretty much everything I had earned that night.
But karma came through because a couple nights later I found 3 $100 bills on the ground that no one claimed! I didnt tell the sweat shop owners about it and kept the money!

When you run so many businesses you do not have a handle on most aspects of the operation and the people that you set up to represent you sometimes take advantage of this. They stupidly think that these issues will not come to light, and they always do. You can do wrong for only so long before it comes to light. Good luck to him and to the employees going through that. Yes this is all true as I personally worked there myself..Liz Gonzalez and her husband (they are both co-owners) are complete douche bags..I was a receptionist though and they treated ALL of their workers like COMPLETE SHIT ESPECIALLY THE SERVERS..even Jay-Z's sister was working there witnessing everything and didnt do a damn thing about it since they were so full of themselves thinking that they could get away with this shit ..for example, they still owe me a $500 paycheck from when I quit….I never got it in the mail and didnt bother since i got a better job so i got over it quickly but …they run this business horribly…and this was comming ..karma is a bitch..in the words of Nas "FUCK JAY -Z!"

My last boss who was Black stole over $45 K from our Center, and each year said cause of budget cuts we were unable to get anything we needed. Long story short, she would buy things and then take it home, when she got caught, she blamed every one of us. Once she cried the race thing, they just asked her not to work for the City, but in the end us employees lost our jobs for no reason.

I use to wait tables and had to serve JayZ. he was a total asshole. I asked to hold a card for the table, which is standard for a 2 bottle minimal table. He said, you don't need to hold our card "we are celebrities, we can take our party elsewhere." diddy was at the table too and was actually really awsome and let me hold his card.
