Sex AND Drugs in the New Harry Potter Flick?

Filed under: Anglophilia > Drugs > Film Flickers > Daniel Radcliffe > Harry Potter

radcliffe.jpg

We love it when actors yap when their handlers aren't around!

Harry Potter himself, actor Daniel Radcliffe, says there's sex and drug references in the new, upcoming Harry Potter flick.

The mommys and daddys aren't going to like that, Daniel!

The wizard said in an interview, "There is a fair amount of sexual energy and there are some drug parallels. We have a couple of what David Yates, the director calls our 'Trainspotting moments'."

For those of you who haven't seen Trainspotting — it's an edgy, drug-fueld movie about heroin junkies in Scotland.

Not exactly a kids' film!

Warner Bros. is breaking some new ground. They've made a Trainspotting for kids!

this is ridicolous can they make one movie without sex & drugs? espically when the audience is mostly children..this is why theres 16 years olds getting pregant.

He's probably hinting at the part where Ron accidently takes some love potion which makes him go all crazy and try to fuck everything that moves.
    .
Sounds like a typical teenager, actually.

  19. Teres says – reply to this

    19

Well if peaple have actually READ the books, you'll find out that Harry Potter gets more serious and more "adult content" every book , so for us dedicated fans its not someting to be surprised about, its old new :P

  20. britt says – reply to this

    20

well the harry potter series isn't necessarily a kids series…as the characters grew older and more mature so did the books…you can't expect 16 year old kids not to know about drugs and sex and all that and throughout the whole series there are certain inuendos

  21. Cassi says – reply to this

    21

WOOH! Awesome! I'd see the movies anyways but this will just make it better in my opinion. There's quite alot of innuendo in the books that have previously been ignored, and it's done in a way that adult readers get it and have a good chuckle, and it goes over kids' heads. Any good children's film should, because obviously someone has to take the kids to see it, and why shouldn't they be able to enjoy it as well? Brilliant move, I think!

  24. Cloe says – reply to this

    24

    Re: Teres – Exactly.

These aren't "little kids" books. Not since the first or second book has it been okay (in my opinion) to have little kids watching it. It's adult and very dark.

  25. potte says – reply to this

    25

I think it's about time that they grew up, but I hope that the movies stay true to the book and don't go completely drug crazed and sexed up, that would ruin the books, and its just not needed.

  26. BLaws says – reply to this

  35. rachi says – reply to this

    35

Drug 'parallels' do not mean actual drugs…think more along the lines of 'trips' in the Simpsons and things like that. It's not like Hermione is going to shoot up in the Forbidden Forest. There are some 'potions' in this book that cause certain effects, and could be comparable to drugs, but I think it's pretty damn obvious it's not a glorification or a tale of drug abuse a la Trainspotting. Get a grip.

  41. 41

oh get over it, who cares. it's not like the references are blatant, they're PARALLELS

  42. Jack says – reply to this

    42

Perez come on now.. what a waste of time.. I would like it back please.

The kids are basically in high school so of course there is gonna be some sexual energy! There sure was when I was that age. Not to mention that Harry Potter has just as strong a following among adults as with kids and as a result the movies (and books) weren't made to be overly "Kiddie".

"They've made a Trainspotting for kids!" - Keep on making claims you know nothing about, your better for it trust me!

  43. Savvy says – reply to this

    43

    Re: maris

    You're stupid. That's all I can say.

  44. Jessi says – reply to this

    44

That because as the Harry Potter series progressed, the content did too. The later books aren't children's books, so why make it a children's movie?

  45. Lisa says – reply to this

    45

If you read the books you would have already known this, they are just hyping it up

  46. 46

I wonder if the drug reference is Ron drinking the love potion that makes him super horny…or maybe when Dumbledore drinks the potion from the cave that makes him go insane.
    .
    .

But the teens in the books have been "doing it" for a little while now. Harry and Cho…then Harry and Ginny…Ron and Lavender..then Ron and Hermione. I think it's hot!! Oh and don't forget Ginny and Dean.
    .
    .
And you do know that Dumbledore is gay right? JK Rowling wrote him as a gay man, although it's very tough to pick up on it unless you know. But he has a "partner" and everything. It will be in the last movie that you will see him.

  47. 47

    Oh and…
    .
    .
    .
    SNAPE KILLS DUMBLEDORE!!!!!!

  48. DLR says – reply to this

    48

Hmmm, most curious! I didn't recall reading anything about drugs and sex in Deathly Hallows? Well, unless you count the sex between Harry and Ginny to get James, Albus, and Lily? :P

  49. No says – reply to this

    49

That's so stupid, the Harry Potter books made no references to drugs in the entire series. They're just doing it to seem more adult, when they don't need too because the story line gets more serious. Idiots.

  50. LOLOL says – reply to this

    50

Ummm… they've completely destroyed what was left of the Potter books, then. Oh well, the movies have sucked ass from the start anyway.

  51. em. says – reply to this

    51

oh my god,im so going to see that movie..i mean sex & drugs?can it get any better?
    oh,and i LOVE Trainspotting,great movie,great movie!

  52. 52

Sexual ENERGY people…not SEX. Jeez. Stop freaking out people.

  53. ass says – reply to this

    53

"There is a fair amount of sexual energy and there are some drug parallels"
    -
Umm, have you realized how old the kids are now Perez? Of course there's going to be some sexual energy, that's what happens with kids at their age. And he said drug parallels, it's not like it shows Harry Potter hitting a fuckin' crack pipe.
    -
You always make things out to be bigger than they really are. You're such an idiot and I can't wait for your 15 minutes to be up.

  54. MIRY says – reply to this

    54

PEOPLE! THE "DRUGS" HE'S REFFERING TO ARE A LOVE POTION AND A POTION MAKES YOU LUCKY. THE LUCKY POTION IS ILLEGAL IN SPORTS AND CONTESTS, AND REALLY SHOULDN'T BE TAKEN MORE THAN A FEW TIMES WITHOUT NEGATIVE SIDE EFFECTS. THAT'S WHAT HE'S REFFERING TO.

THE SEX IS THE "SEXUAL" TENSION OR CHEMISTRY BETWEEN DIFFERENT PEOPLE. SUCH AS LAVENDER AND RON, HERMIONE AND RON, AND HARRY AND GINNY.

THE ONLY THING DIFFERENT ABOUT THIS MOVIE IS THE FACT THAT IT'S HEAVILY POTIONS INFLUENCED AND LOVE INTEREST INFLUENCED.

THIS BOOK ISN'T EVEN THAT DARK; VOLDEMORT ISN'T IN IT ONCE LOL.

EXCUSE THE CAPS, I'M ONLY DOING THIS TO CLEAR IT UP TO THE PEOPLE WHO ARE LIKE "THIS ISN'T FOR CHILDREN; THEY'RE TOO ADULT LIKE AND SCARY".

  55. Regan says – reply to this

    55

The last two HP films were not for children…way too dark and violent. But then again no one ever said HP was for children. As Harry grew up in the series so too did the subject matter. I just hope they make a good film and not try to make it nice for families.

For anyone who has read the book, it is all in there. It is just very subtle, you just really have to understand it. Though it might be a bit more in your face in the movie

  65. Julia says – reply to this

    65

I think this is fine- there are references similar to that in the books… I mean, you figure the characters are like sixteen in the sixth movie, so it's not wierd or anything. As the plot progresses so does the need for more mature themes to keep it realistic. It's only natural they'd do so in the movie.

  66. 66

I don't know why but this particular Perezified image is one of the funniest interventions I have seen on this site.

    69

It's so nice to see a lot of intelligent people commenting. I think the only reason I still read the site is because the comment section is a fascinating and terrifying sample of human compulsion. You rarely read a comment that's written well and backed by intelligence. I think the scariest thing to me is reading a lot of comments written by people with obvious intelligence but are still racist, homophobic, etc. We all have moments of unkindness that we (will) regret, but unless we let go of archaic stereotypes and cultural labels, embrace each other and our diversity, we are FUCKED as a species.

  73. ME says – reply to this

    73

If you have read the next to the last book you would know that there is sexual energy and they shouldn't leave out that in the movie.

  75. Fly says – reply to this

    75

Well, duh! Every book progresses towards an older audience. And sure, with hundreds of teenagers running around there are gonna be innuendoes like crazy. If people actually read the series instead of relying on the movies, they would know that already. *rolls eyes*

    80

hey, perez… is there some kinda age limit on this? because i wanna give my point of view from a 16 year old who has read the books & is in high school. i honestly don't think it's that big a deal. when i first watched the movies i was about 10? & now i've grown along with the movies & the movies have grown too. i mean, there was a PG-13 rating on the last 2 movies so that must've given parents a clue that they have to watch out 4 kids under 13.

  81. lalal says – reply to this

    81

WELL THEY NEED TO KEEP IT TRUE TO THE BOOK, AND THE UPCOMING BOOKS ALL HAVE SEXUAL REFERENCES….DON'T KNOW ABOUT DRUGS THOUGH….THEY'RE ALL GETTING OLDER AND HORNIER….. IT's NOT OFTEN I'd say this but adding a bit of sex to the next films would keep it real cuz that's all teenagers do these days! wizards included ;)

  82. caitl says – reply to this

I'm a big fan and have read all of the books and as far as sex and drugs, there's nothing hardcore.

Dan Radcliffe is delusional, Harry Potter is a kids book. There is no sexual chemistry between Harry and Ginny and Ron and Hermione, actually Harry Potter is passe you can pick up Deathly Hallows for a buck at a garage sale.Radcliffe is a cuple movies away from being a washed child actor.

  84. 84

    94

I highly doubt they would show actual drug use and sex in the film. He's referring to when Harry uses that one potion (Felix something?) that makes him super lucky and leaves him feeling great. That part is also mentioned as drug use in David Sheff's book "Beautiful Boy". The "sex" is probably just Ron and Lavender making out at every turn, and then the love potion Ron takes later on. Anyways, it's about time they experiment, ehh?
