Sex AND Drugs in the New Harry Potter Flick?

Harry Potter himself, actor Daniel Radcliffe, says there's sex and drug references in the new, upcoming Harry Potter flick.
The mommys and daddys aren't going to like that, Daniel!
The wizard said in an interview, "There is a fair amount of sexual energy and there are some drug parallels. We have a couple of what David Yates, the director calls our 'Trainspotting moments'."
For those of you who haven't seen Trainspotting — it's an edgy, drug-fueld movie about heroin junkies in Scotland.
Not exactly a kids' film!
Warner Bros. is breaking some new ground. They've made a Trainspotting for kids!

well the harry potter series isn't necessarily a kids series…as the characters grew older and more mature so did the books…you can't expect 16 year old kids not to know about drugs and sex and all that and throughout the whole series there are certain inuendos
WOOH! Awesome! I'd see the movies anyways but this will just make it better in my opinion. There's quite alot of innuendo in the books that have previously been ignored, and it's done in a way that adult readers get it and have a good chuckle, and it goes over kids' heads. Any good children's film should, because obviously someone has to take the kids to see it, and why shouldn't they be able to enjoy it as well? Brilliant move, I think!

These aren't "little kids" books. Not since the first or second book has it been okay (in my opinion) to have little kids watching it. It's adult and very dark.
I think it's about time that they grew up, but I hope that the movies stay true to the book and don't go completely drug crazed and sexed up, that would ruin the books, and its just not needed.

Well the books do get more grown up as they should, it lends its self well to how as children when you start to grow up the world changes and you lose your innocence. Oh and as a side note Little Danny is Really Yummy!

Drug 'parallels' do not mean actual drugs…think more along the lines of 'trips' in the Simpsons and things like that. It's not like Hermione is going to shoot up in the Forbidden Forest. There are some 'potions' in this book that cause certain effects, and could be comparable to drugs, but I think it's pretty damn obvious it's not a glorification or a tale of drug abuse a la Trainspotting. Get a grip.

For anyone who has read the book, it is all in there. It is just very subtle, you just really have to understand it. Though it might be a bit more in your face in the movie
I think this is fine- there are references similar to that in the books… I mean, you figure the characters are like sixteen in the sixth movie, so it's not wierd or anything. As the plot progresses so does the need for more mature themes to keep it realistic. It's only natural they'd do so in the movie.

It's so nice to see a lot of intelligent people commenting. I think the only reason I still read the site is because the comment section is a fascinating and terrifying sample of human compulsion. You rarely read a comment that's written well and backed by intelligence. I think the scariest thing to me is reading a lot of comments written by people with obvious intelligence but are still racist, homophobic, etc. We all have moments of unkindness that we (will) regret, but unless we let go of archaic stereotypes and cultural labels, embrace each other and our diversity, we are FUCKED as a species.

hey,perez… is there some kinda age limit on this? because i wanna give my point of view from a 16 year old who has read the books & is in high school. i honestly don't think it's that big a deal. when i first watched the movies i was about 10? & now i've grown along with the movies & the movies have grown too. i mean, there was a PG-13 rating on the last 2 movies so that must've given parents a clue that they have to watch out 4 kids under 13.

I highly doubt they would show actual drug use and sex in the film. He's referring to when Harry uses that one potion (Felix something?) that makes him super lucky and leaves him feeling great. That part is also mentioned as drug use in David Sheff's book "Beautiful Boy". The "sex" is probably just Ron and Lavender making out at every turn, and then the love potion Ron takes later on. Anyways, it's about time they experiment, ehh?
