Will He Pull A Michael Jordan?

bfavre.jpg

ESPN has apparently started a 'rumor' that Green Bay Packers great Brett Favre is coming out of retirement.

The sports channel said that an unidentified Packers source revealed that Favre told the team's coach just recently that he has the itch to play again.

Favre responded to the ESPN report by telling his hometown newspaper, the Sun Herald in Gulfport, Miss., that "it's all rumor."

When Favre announced his retirement back in April he said, "I've given everything I possibly could give to this organization, the game of football, and I don't think I've got anything left to give And that's it. I know I can play. But I don't think I want to."

BUT according to the AP, less than two months later, he told reporters he might be open to returning if the Packers' replacement quarterback Aaron Rodgers was injured.

Guess we'll just have to kick back and see how this all plays out.

But, isn't it annoying when athletes/musicians/actors say they're retiring and don't really mean it?

What's MORE annoying is how much the Milwaukee area news channels are covering this! God I already went through hell with the coverage in March. Last night 3/4 of the nightly newscast was regarding this. The coverage in March was insane and stupid and non-stop. They would cut into every show with stupid stuff. If he doesn't retire. I'm going to hunt him down and bash in his kneecaps ice skating style.

why does it bother you if someone retires, then decides to have a comeback? some people don't realize how much they are going to miss working, seeing people, etc. It is a major lifestyle change. Unless you threw him a big party and spent hours picking out an expensive gift-it shouldn't bother you.

Um, it's interesting how all the real newschannels are reporting that Bret said it was all a lie, that he has never said anything about coming back.
Maybe Perez should actually watch the news sometimes instead of reading the gossip rags and hanging out at clubs.

    Re: I hat

Totally with you on the news coverage! It's even worse up in green Bay where I'm from. . . they pratically call it 'Breaking News' every time Brett Favre goes grocery shopping. I swear, scientist could discover the cure for cancer and news stations in GB would still devote 90% of the newscast to Brett Favre and the Packers. Don't get me wrong, I think Brett is a great guy and an amazing player. . but as someone who has lived in WI her whole life, I was a little relieved when he retired. I'm crossing my fingers that these are nothing more than rumors or comments takenway out of context.

i'm from wisconsin and this is all anyone has been talking about for the past 48 hours…well, actually, since the day he retired. aaron rogers is pretty foxy tho so i'm hoping he gets to step up.

  22. CS says – reply to this
    22

I am from Wisco and have been a devoted Packer/Favre fan since learning what football was. Regardless, he needs to hold true to his word. If you had seen the emotions of full grown men around here and the pain all of us went through watching his retirement speech, I wouldn't wish that upon anybody again. He'll come back and everyone's hopes will be back with him and they'll just be let down when he announces his retirement AGAIN.

He's always going to have an "itch" to play, especially the first year he's not out on the field, as it was his life for a long, long time. I think people are taking his words out of context or making it up altogether.

    #4 for life.

All you had to do was see Brett with David Letterman a couple of months ago and you would have known he would be coming back. It was painfully obvious to us all, including Dave, that he wasn't done or ready to retire. And Dave seized upon this immediately and begged him to come back, which only added fuel to the fire. This surprises me NAUGHT. It was all signed, sealed and delivered that night on David Letterman.

It's really not that annoying when someone decides to change their mind. Is it really that big of a deal that someone that possesses talent and passion for football might be considering playing again? I mean this guy is a legend, if he wants to go back he should be welcome with open arms. What's annoying is bitchy queens like you Perez that find something negative in anything & everything.

There's something to be said for that, too, that magic. It doesn't come around very often. Just saying.

As far as i'm concerned Brett Favre retired. The media wants to play this up to mean he still wants to play. He doesn't!!! The media needs to stop spreading rumors and move on to something else. The only itch Brett has is probably coming from his ass. He's done. Finished. Leave this story alone. Not only that, he got on the Madden 09 Cover. With all the superstition behind being placed on the cover, do you think Brett will play football and probably have a lousy season. You come out when you're on top, and that's what Brett did. He doesn't regret it. I promise you he will remain retired.

  73. Blunt says – reply to this
    73

Yes, it's extremely annoying. Every athlete has a voice that tells him it's time to quit. Brett's being really wishy-washy and it seems like he's doing it so people beg him to return. I can't imagine Brett being that childish but you never know.
