I am very closely related to Jesse Helms and the news hits me hard, and yes, he was far from perfect and failed to live up to our ideals, but remember, he was a man of his time. Don't take people out of their contexts, folks. Look at Thomas Jefferson, for example, and his shortcomings– btw, he also died on the Fourth of July. Hopefully, as a nation, we will learn from our/his/their mistakes. God bless him ( and all of us) and forgive him his faults.
