Wow. This is unexpected.
As rumors of a possible divorce from Guy Ritchie and an inappropriate relationship with New York Yankess star player Alex Rodriguez continue to swirl, Madonna has just released a new statement (in her own words) on Sunday.
The Material Mom's publicist, Liz Rosenberg, spoke last week about all the chatter, and now it's M's turn.
Says her Madgesty:
"My husband and I are not planning on getting a divorce. I know Alex Rodriguez through Guy Oseary, who manages both of us. I brought my kids to a Yankee game. I am not romantically involved in any way with Alex Rodriguez. I have nothing to do with the state of his marriage or what spiritual path he may choose to study. I have learned over the years not to take accusations and the many false reports about me very seriously. I also appreciate how fiction and fact seem to be perceived as one and the same by people who read both newspapers and the internet."

Looks like she's becoming a victim of the very means she used to promote herself and become famous in the first place. Her early career was full of provocative, attention-seeking, highly sexualized images designed to catch the media's attention. It worked. But the media is just as ready to write negative articles about her if it sells. You'd think someone as "seasoned" in the business as Madonna would be able to ignore this stuff and see it for what it is, unless this time, the media really has hit on a raw nerve…

As a Madonna, I am aware of the many Madonna controversies. It is extremely rare for Madonna to publicly comment herself instead of through her publicist. For her to go to this extent, I tend to believe her. And if she is the cold hearted business woman that many say she is, I don't think she'd use the image of "homewrecker" to further her career. Thats not something which is easy to bounce back from and I doubt she'd put her kids through the public turmoil of it.

Her cd, Hard Candy, has sold 3 million worldwide (close to 1 million here already…more than Mimi's, for example), her hit "4 Minutes" was a monster smash, breaking You Tube records, topping charts, etc. I hardly think she *needs* this kind of publicity.
