Actor vs. Actors

Old Hollywood is speaking up and Robert De Niro is the latest to speak out about the potential actors' strike due to their negotiations of new contracts.

While at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival in the Czech Republic, where he won the Crystal Globe for his contribution to cinema, the actor spoke about his concerns.

De Niro said, "I do not think it is a good time to be striking," adding that in the years to come the issues "could be resolved."

He also added that the general climate didn't seem right for the action.

Saying, "All the trade unions are affected by the strike. With the economy as it is at this time, it does not seem to be a great idea."

The Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) had come up with a three-year deal originally but the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) had said the deal didn't look promising.

Negotiations are still ongoing but SAG is expected to respond to a new offer this Monday.

We're on SAG's side. The big media moguls need to step up to the plate - especially when it comes to the issue of payment for DVD residuals (or lack thereof)!

DeNiro is right. With the economy as it is these people should be thankful they are overpaid. Also, there isn't all that much coming out of Hollywood - everything seems to be a remake or a rip-off of old TV shows.

Leave the analysis to Variety, Perez. You don't know sh*t about the situation. Love the way you cry over the economic "impact" of Starbucks losing a few hundred stores but are pro-strike. You're a bigger moron than I thought. The big studio "moguls" that you want to make the bad guys assume 100% of the risk when they make movies, which are getting more and more expensive (thanks, in part, to the huge salary demands of so-called A-list actors). This is way more complicated than just paying DVD residuals so STFU already.

      FABULOUS, FABULOUS
he is absolutely right. the economy is horrendous and they have got to take that into consideration…think of all the people they will affect, unlike the writers who ONLY THOUGHT OF THEMSELVES.
Please, I understand everyone deserves what they should receive, but c'mon, aren't they rich enough!

Drawing cum on the face of one of the greatest, most talented actors of all time? Have some fucking respect, Perez.

    20. mady says – reply to this

      20

Actors get treated and paid well enough. The writers deserved to go on strike, not actors. They get treated like gods on the set and have the nerve to complain. Do NOT support the strike. It will put more people we really need to run the industry, such as writers, crew, DP's etc, out of work.

    21. mom says – reply to this

      21

you're crazy if you think they should strike. i personally know people who would be extremely affected by this action and be out of work and in serious trouble if these assholes, who already make a ton of money, continue this greedy parade. enough is enough already.

    22. lg says – reply to this

      22

These actors! You are paid to act in that role…that is why you are hired and that is what you shpould get paid on. Now if you make a deal for scale and willing to work for procedes…o.k.. Why should you keep making money after that role has been done! Do you PAY BACK any money if the movie bombs..NO!

    23. Jaded says – reply to this

      23

If the actors go on strike that will mean less disposable income for everyone involved in anyway with the entertainment industry. That includes the people who show up to your parties, buy your Hot Topic crap, and purchase music you recommend. Also that mean less ads on your website… hey that means less money for you. Maybe you should take that into consideration when you spout your mouth about putting thousands of people who haven't yet been able to recover from the last strike out of work again. I had friends that are only PA's, script supers, and electrics that lost their homes, and still haven't recovered. Maybe you should think about them rather than pandering your fat ass to a bunch of people who laugh at you behind your back.

      24

      1. Get your facts straight before commenting on what SAG is trying to get.
      2. For all the idiots that says actors are overpaid, only the top 1% are, the rest make SAG scale.
Just like the country, the top 1% of the rich make the money and the rest make a lot less. If you don't like it then stop your bitching and do something about it.

no one gives a rats ass if actors strike;; i hope they stay out forever;;now a plumber,, electrician or a garbageman those people count in this life not the grossly overpaid dorks of the world;; five percent of these make all the money and you never hear of them sharing it ;;so to you i say blow me

    28. Fay says – reply to this

      28

For once I agree with you…..Mr. De Niro and other actors with his opinion seem to think they are the only actors around and since they have an abundance of work and money why bother striking…Of course it will be bad for everyone, however why isn't anyone saying anything to the "SUITS", the CEO's, the " media Moguls" they are responsible for the withholding of money that fairly should be shared…They should be called for what they are, Greedy and Power Hungry ( among other things) Everyone, of all professions need to stand up to these Monster Bullies, and keep in mind a Strike ALWAYS sucks, but we created and keep unions alive for many reasons one of them being to protect us against what has been going on in the entertainment industry…And it is my observation that all the unions in the film industry would be in the right to strike as this Power structure that BE needs to FALL.

De Niro is right. It's a bad time to look for more money, and it isn't going to create any good will with the consumers.

      44

      Oh Perez,

I haven't checked out your site in a while, but good to know you haven't changed. Please don't comment on things you know nothing about. You don't understand the first thing about what "SAG's side" is, so don't profess your support.

The incompetence with which SAG has handled these negotiations is stunning and De Niro is absolutely right that there is no appetite for a strike. The WGA strike seriously damaged television and the fact that SAG (unlike the DGA) can't make a deal is pathetic.

But Perez, since you are entirely ignorant of the issues, stick to obsessing over Britney, Lohan, Madonna, et. al. And await being yesterday's news like the so over Paris, Nicole, and other talentless wastes of ink and internet space.

      Vive la revolution.

YOU ARE THE SCUM OF THE EARTH TO DRAW DRIBBLE ON THE ULTIMATE MOVIE STAR, JUST FOR SPORT. IF YOU WERE TRULY ENDEARED TO GOSSIP, YOU WOULD NOT DO THAT TO INNOCENT CELEBRITIES. THIS CULTURE IS GOING TO BLOW, AND I HOPE YOU BLOW UP WITH IT. I WONDER HOW LONG BEFORE SOME CELEBRITY, MAYBE DELUSIONAL ON DRUGS, IS GONNA GO POSTAL ON ALL OF YOU. YOU WONDER WHY THE WORLD HATES AMERICANS. THIS IS WHY. TOO MANY OF YOU ARE SELFISH, SELF-INVOLVED, HATEFUL, UNCARING, JEALOUS MONSTERS.

    50. Ivy says – reply to this

      50

You're on SAG's side because you don't work in the entertainment industry. All the millions of people who come together to make a movie behind the scenes are out a job when spoiled actors stomp their feet. The WGA strike left a huge community of people without any job security and no money.
