According to a new report, the May issue of Vogue with Gwyneth Paltrow on the cover is the mag's worst seller of the year so far.
It only sold 310,000 newsstand copies.
Vogue averages around 450,000 copies sold at newsstand per issue.
What was it about this Gwyneth cover that didn't resonate with people???
Is it her??? The picture??? All of the above???

Their July issue isn't anything to write home about either - very thin - and I'm not talking about the models.
Perhaps it's because people are deciding between gasoline and feeding their families. Plus if someone's going to splurge on a $5 fashion/beauty magazine, they want it to be for someone who is beautiful. I've never understood all the fuss surrounding Gwyneth Paltrow's looks. Put her in librarian clothes and she'd fit right in at the local elementary school shelving "Cat in the Hat". BORING.

It's the economy. If I don't have my Venti Latte from Starbucks, I don't wanna sit and read Vogue. Plus, Gwyneth looks like that annoying Julia chick from 'Lost' in this photo, which is enough to make me hurl. By the way, anyone else notice how the Photoshopista made her head WAY to big for her body.
When someone hasn't been in a decent movie for years, has all but told America to FUCK OFF , and really doesn't have anything to say, it makes for a boring magazine.

first off, she appears really photoshopped and second off, her cover story sounds really boring. in addition, all the other cover stories sound too boring for vogue. overall, it seems like there's nothing special about this issue. i wouldn't buy it. i'd prefer to BORROW it from a friend.

Did you read it??? It was at my salon so I picked it up and couldn't believe it. I never thought much about her one way or the other, but I was STUNNED at her arrogance and assholism– even by Hollywood standards. She went on and on about her "people" (I swear to God), and how said "people" won't let her eat sushi and how she won't loan her "people" to Madonna because she steals them (big surprise there) and how hard it is to be a mom but how truly spectacular it is , as she parades the interviewer through her kitchen to ask little Peach and Abraham what they did all day while their nanny feeds them what is undoubtedly an inedible macrobiotic dinner. And it ends with her fascination that her kids don't know what a HUGE STAR she is yet. Yes, Gwynnie. Fascinating.
Yeah yeah I know she was in Ironman. My bad. But next to Robert Downey Jr, anyone is pretty fucking forgettable. Wish Vogue had had him on the cover. Then I could have wet myself over it.

The stories on the front aren't exactly ones that make you want to read the mag, either.
Its the picture…not Gwyneth. It looks too photoshopped, too dressed up, too much body. A clear close up, with straight lines, sleek blond hair, a more updated look…would have done better I think. I feel like its 14th century or something!

I'm a subscriber & this issue came to my house… I read the article & the word that kept popping into my head was 'twit'… she's so pretentious & preachy at the same time… her "people" need to tell her to stuff it!
It didn't sell because it's a terrible photo on the front that is obviously horribly photoshopped. I wouldn't buy it either.
HOW I FOUND AN EXTRA $192.00 THIS MONTH:
1. Skipped that daily Latte at Starbucks, and made coffee with half/half at home instead. Savings $77.00 FOR FUCKING REAL. I subtracted the cost of a Jumbo bag of Starbucks coffee at Costco and several containers of Half and Half.
2. Bought 0 magazines and newspapers (read everything online or at library) $10.00
3. Quit buying ANY soft drinks or bottled water at 7-11, etc. $25.00. Pulled out my old metal water bottle and fill up whenever I see a water fountain or bottle water. Yeah, I hate water too. But, it's growing on me.
4. Got rid of my storage locker by doing a mass purge of everything and storing the rest back at home. Garage is a mess, but it's not $80.00 a month. I'm Craigslisting everything left over next month, so I'll MAKE some money.
WHY POST THIS HERE? BECAUSE VOGUE MAGAZINE CAN EAT ME. AND GWYNETH 'I HATE AMERICA' PALTROW CAN EAT ME TOO.

I liked Vogue's Drew Barrymore cover a lot better. Drew rocks! Boys on the Side is my most favorite movie ever. Men don't make women the centre of their lives. Women should do the same. Nuff said.
As a fashionista, I think magazines are not easy to give up for those of us who live and breathe them- the poor sales may have something to do with the fact (other than gwennie or the economy) that the issue looks like a winter issue! The colors, her dress, nothing says summer- and at this time of year bright colors and summer themes are needed for it to pop-thats what will sell!
It's boring and looks too photoshopped (or photoCHOPPED). Vogue covers need drama. And if you don't buy a Vogue, you can buy a gallon of fuel. That's a better deal.
Vogue needs a NEW editor. The April issue with Buttugly Gisele was terrible, too.

It's her. She's comes across as arrogant in most of the interviews I've read & she's always offering unsolicited advice to various celebs on how to behave or how to handle their private lives. It's way annoying!
It probably didn't sell well for two reasons. She is not very popular in the US and Vogue is not worth the cover price.
You can read all the same stuff on the computer for free. It has nothing to do with the cover. Who can afford the little luxuries anymore, even if it is only a $5 mag.
Not a big Gwenith fan or anything but in her defense…maybe people are splurging less on luxury items like magazines. We're in a recession right now if no one's noticed.
It may have something to do with Gwen, but if you ask me, the whole editorial team at Vogue is to blame. All of their recent covers (and cover girls) have been very mature actresses; no one who represents the future of haute couture. Though Anna Wintour and her editorial team at Vogue have indisputably dominated and changed the fashion world, it's time for them to starting thinking forward. Mix classic couture with the up and coming! And if Ms. Wintour fails to deliver better covers, then maybe they should think about hiring someone new, who has vision of the fashion world to come.
Until Vogue shapes up, there's always W, Harper's Bazaar, and Nylon
