A 70-year old Indian woman named Omkari Panwar recently gave birth to twins.
Yes. She's SEVENTY!
This feat makes her the oldest woman to give birth in the world.
She didn't get pregnant the good ole fashioned way, of course.
Panwar, the mother of 2 adult daughters, conceived via in vitro fertilization treatment.
She and her husband were desperate to produce a male heir.
Her husband, a retired farmer, sold his buffalos, mortgaged his land, spent his life savings and took out a credit card loan to pay for the treatment.
Looks like it all paid off.
One of the twins is a boy.
The old dog dad said, "The treatment cost me a fortune but the birth of a son makes it all worthwhile. I can die a happy man and a proud father."
It's sad that in certain places a girl can't be an heiress!

I'm sure these people are just as disgusted with your customs as you are with theirs. With no male heir, anything they had would have been taken from them anyway. The older daughters would never have seen any of it. They decided that taking a debt now that would be paid off over time and with a dowlry was worth it in the long run to protect their family, farm and business. There is a reason a woman's body naturally stops having kids at a certain age. They wanted a son to take care of their "property" (which they now no longer have since they sold it all and took out loans), but who is going to take care of the children? Obviously, the parents aren't going to be around much longer. They'll be LUCKY if they make it long enough to see their children reach the end of their teen years.

No ethical doctor would ever perform IVF on someone so old. No wonder people look down on the treatment. BTW, I'm a reproductively healthy 28yo who has to have this treatment done when I try to conceive because of my husbands low sperm count. Maybe if doctors limited treatment to ages 42 and under, it wouldn't get so much criticism. That doctor should have his license revoked. It's a shame what some people would do to get their name in the news.
