Canadian rockers Nickelback are the latest musicians to get Live Nation-ed.
Why????
They suck so hard!
According to a new report, Nickelback's worldwide contract with Live Nation will cover three touring and album cycles, with an option for a fourth.
The deal also gives Live Nation rights to Nickelback recordings, DVDs, merchandise and endorsements.
No numbers were revealed.
BUT, the band's last tour, sold more than 1.5 million tickets and grossed more than $67 million.
WTF?
We just can't believe so many people paid to see them play 'music'.
Maybe it was a fluke that the band did so well?
Unlike Madonna or U2, we don't think the Nation has a "sure thing" with this investment!

i'm not a fan of nickelback in any way, i change the station when their music comes on the radio. that being said, a friend of mine won tickets to see them here a few years back and dragged me with him (hey, it was free, and i did like the opening band). i gotta say, they are a really good live band, MUCH better than they come across on the radio.
sure, most of their songs sound alike but they play heavier live and sound great without all the heavy album production. i found them to be pretty entertaining, Chad knows how to work the crowd, that's for sure. and surprisingly, he looks MUCH better in person than in pics. i really don't get why people buy their albums, but having seen them live, i can understand the high ticket sales.

You're an idiot. Nickleback might not be your type of music, but obviously it's someones. Everytime you turn the radio on you can hear a song of theirs. They churn out hit after hit. To the point where each album spawns up to 6 hits.
THey aren't my type of music, but the investment is wise on Live Nation's behalf. It beats the signing of a 50 year-old, hall of fame baseball player ruiner, hasn't had a hit album in 20 years, can't sell tickets to her dumb show, seahag.

Personally, I can't stand Nickelback and think they play a boring (although, unoffensive) brand of rock, but how can you be surprised about Live Nation's interest? They're currently the best-selling conventional rock act in the world and their concerts routinely sell out everywhere. Artistically, you can question their merit, but from a business standpoint, this is a no-brainer.

Soooo Disagree, Nickelback is one of the best new bands out there. Are you kidding me it was starting to feel like there weren't any bands that could produce good sounds with decent lyrics, Nickelback hit both of those areas up. They deserve to be recognized for all of there hard work. The only one Sucking so hard here is PEREZ.

i wouldn't walk across the street to listen to this band, and i generally change the station if one of their tunes comes on (although i'll admit they've got one or two that i really like) but Perez, what you obviously don't get is that the vast majority of the music buying public generally likes the classic rock sound…it's tried and true and just keeps on going…witness the large selection of classic rock stations throughout the country….most folks are happy enough if they get an ol AC/DC track, a couple of Zepplin or old Aerosmith tunes, and the odd nickleback song… I may not be a massive fan, and neither may you, but the fact remains that a lot of folks buy their albums and even more want to see them live….and by all accounts (just look at some on this very message board) Nickback apparently has a wicked live show…..dude..you gotta give credit where credit is due…even if you're not a fan….and the credit goes to this band and it's lead singer (who also seems to be their inhouse smart-guy when it comes to working the music business…I've heard that the dude is pretty sharp when it comes to marketing his band)
