Gray's Anatomy star Chandra Wilson spoke out about the Emmy bruhaha that surrounded co-star Katherine Heigl and her decision not to put her name into consideration for an award this year.
Says Wilson:
"All actors have to do that exactly same thing every year. The public at large doesn't understand it's not about your body of works. It can't be something in the middle. You can have a great seasonal arc, but if you don't have that show that's your show, then it's not the right thing for the category. It was amazing to me the way it got blown out of proportion. Some years I submit, some years I don't."

Heigl rocks. Perez does nothing but look for a reason to dis this girl. So she smokes! It sucks, at least its not drugs, drink or some kind of eating disorder! She was honest about her profession, just like any one in ANY profession wouldn't want to put ourselves up for a prestigious category when we know we weren't given the projects/material/work to actually do our best and show our best in. Jealousy is not worn well on Perez.
It was Katherine Heigl's choice to not submit her name and I respect that but why the need to voice her reasons to the press ?

Ok most actors/actresses take their name out of the Emmy's race if they dont feel they deserve to be there that year but they dont go about saying the writers of the show weren't as good as the previous years.She should learn not to bite the hand that feeds you!

IMO I think she doesn't HAVE to submit her name if she doesn't feel like it. She probably believes someone did a better job at acting than she did and she wants them to win because they deserve it.
BUT when she said that she didn't get any worthy material, that was kinda fucked up and ungrateful.

It's one thing to silently remove yourself from contention, it's a whole other thing to diss the writers and everyone else who works on the show with her passive-agressive complaint about lack of material. She would have had better material if she hadn't needed so much time off to work on her "film" career. Ungrateful bee-otch!
I am happy when an actor doesn't embrace the narcissistic pat-on-the-back. I think there are far too many awards out there for them. They need incessant validation. Kudos to Ms. Heigel! She is a self-confident woman who does not need solicited praise.
She was an ingrate for speaking ill of the writers on the show - mind you, a show that put her on the map.
She's a great actress. So what if she pulls her name. She gets a lot of crap just because she's outspoken and confident in herself. I think we all need to cut her a bunch of slack. She's a breath of fresh air compared to some of the other starlets out there.
If her costar is sticking up for her… then she's not really dissing the show, right? Like if she's being backed by G.A. than why should we be tripping? Idk I really don't like her character on G.A.! I hated her until I saw knocked up and 27 dresses. She's a good actress, but yeah… if I was her… I wouldn't have submitted either. Her character was soo whiny this season… and a home wrecker.

I didn't think that it was big deal to begin - I actually praise Katherine for being honest to herself, her career, and her colleagues in the crazy and scary world of celebrity-ism (don't think that's an actual word, but whatever)!!!!!!!!!!

I never saw the whole thing as a slam against the GA writers. I understood her from the get go. Just another lovely example how the media creates conflict. I think she's great (except for her smoking habit).

Also, I love her as an actress but I agree that this season wasn't her best as far as material. The strike has a lot to do with that. The whole season sucked until the very end.
Ingrate. There's a reason why this is a big deal–actors don't usually make big public announcements like this–Heigl made it into a big deal. Most actors quietly go about their business, and choose to submit or not. Heigl obviously is not as confident as some of the posters think, as it seems likely that the reason that she was so vocal about withdrawing her name is that when the Emmys rolled around, she didn't want people to think she wasn't good enough to get nominated. She wanted her public to know that she's not a bad actress, she was so "noble" that she chose to withdraw due to a lack of material worthy of her acting "skills." So that's clearly all about ego…
Also, methinks she is trying to distance herself from the low-class taint of the small screen. She is a movie star, dammit, not two-bit a prime-time soap actress…
FYI - While others may celebrate her curvy figure, she has spoken about not being comfortable with it. Being slightly meatier doesn't automatically make her down to earth.
I like her as an actress but I think she needs some meat on her bones. You can see her hip bones sticking out through that dress.
I never thought it was a big deal in the first place. I think she made the right choice. She didn't have a lot to do this past year on the show, nothing worthy of an Emmy in my opinion anyway. That's not knocking the writers or Katherine, both do a great job but they can't write scripts/scenes for every character/actor that will lead to an Emmy worthy performance every year. Each season juggles what characters it will focus most on, give the heavy/difficult storylines to etc etc This wasn't her year, she made the right choice. In Season 2 (especially the last few episodes) she had lots of stuff to do and was tested because of her character's storyline (Denny's death etc), an Emmy made sense then, it doesn't now. Like Chandra says it's not about your 'body of work', it's about the past year. So blown out of scale!

I think everyone should be applauding Heigl. How many times have we seen undeserving actresses who've won year after year? She did the right thing in my book. And, I don't think she refused to submit because the writing was bad–she just didn't have the good scenes like she did the year before. They take turns doing that people.

I don't see what it is about Heigl that gets under people's skin. I like her; she says what she thinks, she defends her friends, she seems pretty down to earth, she's pretty but not all starved looking, she has the 'Old Hollywood' glamour and she's talented. She reminds me a bit of Lucille Ball, right down to the ubiquitous cigarette. I didn't blame her one bit for not submitting an Emmy bid; her character's role on GA last season was a joke. If my character morphed from an understandbly flawed character into a wildly annoying, unlikeable, incompetent, neurotic mess I wouldn't want to submit a bid either.
I think the big difference was in the way Heigl chose to make a public statement about why she was not submitting. Chandra Wilson may not submit on a given year but does she make a statement that passive aggressively insults the writers? Nope. Heigl needs to realize that while some people think she's a hot shit now she's nothing more than a flash in the pan. She was a nobody before Grey's and she owes everything to that show.

It wasn't the fact that she withdrew her name, it was the fact that she put this big statement out attacking the writers. That was classless and ungrateful and very wrong on her part. People may withdraw their name all the time but do any of them put out this big press release statement about it condemning the writers? No. SHE made it into this big deal by doing that. She needs to learn to keep her mouth shut and stop biting the hands that feed her. This bitch was one of the main ones defending the writers during the strike!
