Not Ready For Retirement

Looks like "seasoned" journalist Ted Koppel has landed himself a new job.

Koppel has recently been making in-depth documentaries for the Discovery Channel since 2005, when he left ABC.

However, the former Nightline anchor will now be appearing on both BBC America and BBC World News.

He will be "offering his expertise on major international and national news stories, including the 2008 presidential election race."

BBC exec producer, Rome Hartman, said in a statement, "Ted Koppel is the quintessential American journalist with a global perspective. His smart, sophisticated view of the world, and America's place in it, makes him a perfect fit for BBC World News America. His knowledge and insight on everything, from China's economic development to the battle for the White House, is second to none, and his analysis of stories and issues is razor-sharp."

Koppel will continue his full-time position as managing editor of the Discovery Channel.

Born in the U.K., Koppel lived there until he was 12 years old before coming to the U.S., and has said "It's a particular pleasure for me now, as a U.S. citizen and longtime American journalist, to have been asked to join BBC America as a contributor."

He continues, "The BBC has worldwide capabilities that I can't think any American network matches. To the degree that our future in this country is dependent to any extent on what's happening in the rest of the world — which you won't hear about a great deal on the American networks — then the BBC can be very, very helpful."

Let's hope he has the same following he did here in the states.

Oh, and let's hope he doesn't die soon!

Your flippant comment about hoping Ted Koppel doesn't die soon is entirely immature, inappropriate and incredibly offensive. I am sure you have family member's of Koppel's age, and I'm sure you'd find it hilarious and amusing to have people jokingly write that they hopefully don't die soon.
