You know when Howard Stern is involved there's bound to be controversy.
Stern held a contest this past May for the "Ugliest Dude, Hottest Wife" contest.
The winner was a second-grade teacher who ended up skipping work on a "sick day" to take part in the competition.
Marie Jarry and her husband joined Stern on his show with her wearing a bikini and talking about her sex life.
And, just shortly after winning the $5,000 prize for the contest, Jarry resigned from her teaching position at Thalberg Elementary School in Southington.
According to Jarry, she only left after being forced to resign.
So what happens now?
Obviously, Jarry has decided to sue the school officials and her union.
She has already filed her lawsuit in the Hartford federal court.
Jarry is now demanding that she be given her job back, as well as receive back pay from when she resigned.
We bet some of the parents won't be too happy to have her back.
People are prudes in the U.S.!

I think the point is that she used a sick day when she wasn't sick. People feel so entitled…
It's not a question of our country being prudes - she belongs to a UNION and there are strict guidelines regarding sick days and sick pay … If she had requested an unpaid day of leave, the school district wouldn't have been able to force her out.

I'm kinda torn for this one, first off OF COURSE the school should be upset. She is a second grade teacher and the students aren't supposed to see her this way but on the other hand she has a right to say and do what she pleases. Any second grade teacher who would risk one of her kids seeing her this way is not a very good teacher. I kind of agree with the school on this one but they'll probably lose in court.

What kind of moron thinks she can get away with that? She's an elementary school teacher. Most professionals, ESPECIALLY TEACHERS, are held to some sort of behavioral standard. I certainly wouldn't be look upon too favorably if I went on the Stern show, in a bikini, and discussed my sex life. Then again, I wouldn't be so incredibly stupid as to let everyone know about it. Anyway, the woman is an idiot and clearly lacks common sense - she shouldn't be teaching.

I agree with you Jul. It was about lying to get the day off. Yes, teachers have a personal life but you are in a position where you are supposed to be a role model. I cant imagine if I heard about one of my teacher's sex lives. I would not be able to concentrate on my schoolwork, just imaging my teacher naked.

Perez…I KNOW that you're a Howad fan and listen all the time. This is very old news. Artie Lange even held a benefit show for this couple several weeks ago. She was wrongly accused of a morality issue. Stern's show is only available on closed curcuit (not on the open air waves) and she did and said nothing wrong. I heard the show in question myself. The school district reacted with a knee jerk because she was on the Stern show and then wrongly coerced her to resign "or else". Sad story. She sounded like a dedicated, talented teacher.

She went basically on a public radio sex show, which was transmitted all over the country. If anyone listened to that episode of the Howard Stern show, they would've heard a dedicated woman who was head over heels in love with her husband. They talked about sex, but it wasn't anything dirty - it was a woman in a dedicated marriage talking about how she loves to make love to her husband. Like any other job, there are teachers who don't hold up to the high moral standards that we think they should.

I think it's the fact that she skipped work, not what she was doing. If she were discovered getting her hair cut, shopping, or at an amusement park on a sick day, I'm sure she would still be in trouble (although probably not as much). She's not being punished for her morals (or lack thereof), but rather her lack of integrity: denying her students a day of education to be a guest on a radio show to talk about her sex life and how ugly her husband is.

As if teachers don't have the most vacation time of any profession as it is. The problem is that she called in sick, accepted sick pay, and required the school to pay for a sub that day. Beyond that she did not get fired for the incident; she resigned. It has nothing to do with what she did with her time, she could have gone to a ball game and it would have been just as big a problem. She lied, committed fraud on the school by accepting sick pay and then quit all on her own. how is any of that anyone elses fault but her own?
America has hang-ups regarding nudity and it's ridiculous, but the thing is, what else did this broad expect? She's a second grade teacher, teaching arithmetic to 7-year-olds is her priority and parents are gonna have a problem with her freely talking about her sex life on Howard Stern. Not a great idea on her part.

For us working stiffs who have real jobs; yes, this issue all depends upon the language in her union contract and/or the written policies of her school district.
I disagree that she should be fired - freedom of speech and all of that. However, if she broke a written rule about use of sick days, etc - then I guess she must pay the price.
If you're gonna use a paid sick day, and then appear on a broadcast radio show, well then - you take your chances about getting caught! (pretty stupid on her part to believe that no one would find out about the radio show!)

Perez love your site and almost always agree with you. But, not on this one. Im a teacher and I understand that doing something like going on Howard Stern in a bikini and talking about your sex life, on a sick day nonetheless, is ridiculous. First there is a morality issue for sure. More importantly, something like this and the attention she brought to herself, will take the attention from what actually matters- the students and their education.
I had a teacher friend that put something up on YouTube and the kids and parents were talking about it all year, I cant even imagine if one of us did what this idiot did.

Even THIS comarison isn't appropriate as this woman was acting with much more class and decorum.
