Strike Unlikely?

Filed under: TV News > Media Minute

strikepic.jpg

Things are looking good for the media moguls.

Since the economy is in such a shitty state, it's been reported/speculated that SAG won't have the guts (or support) to call for a strike, even though they're not happy with the latest deal presented by the suits.

SAG said on Wednesday that contract talks aren't over and they still wanted to negotiate. The studios said they were done. Finished. Finito.

Sounds like corporate titans are calling your bluff, SAG!

We say: "Strike! Strike!" They will cave in, eventually.

In other Hollywood labor news, members of the other actors union, AFTRA, ratified the offer from the suits that SAG claims to be a bum deal for actors.

Looks like SAG's bargaining chips are drying up right before their eyes.

Shame on you Perez! You have been anti-SAG since this began, passing along the PR from the producers and studios as if PR hyperbole is fact. What a pity you are lined up against the very people you use to make your living. That will come back to you.

Shame on you Perez!!! coming from someone who works in PRoduction, and saw how the writers strike nearly BROKE the industry…please do not say such ignorant things such as rooting SAG to strike. People lose jobs, families go hungry, its not cool. continue to draw on peoples face, and report on amazing gossip, but please do not speak about something that doesn't affect you.

I don't understand how you can apparently (due to your coverage of the WGA strike) understand how absolutely DEVASTATING strikes are to so many people in the entertainment industry and keep on pushing for a strike so soon after the last one. Below the line workers are just barely starting to recover from the last one.

ok Perez. if you think it's so easy to strike, how about when we go on strike, and we're out of work, you support us. Put up a holding page on your site for the duration that we're on strike.
If you're not willing to do that, then please don't just ask us to strike as if it's a sacrifice that unemployed actors can afford right now. Most of us live from job to job and it's an erratic business as it is. Thanks for your concern though-always appreciated! still love your site no matter what-

I'm getting sick and tired of these strikes. These people make millions of dollars and they are complaining. I say "WE THE PUBLIC SHOULD STRIKE AND NOT GO TO SEE THE MOVIES AND SEE HOW THEY LIKE IT " !!!!!!!

I have an idea: Why doesn't someone start a charity that involves some of these rich bastards in the entertainment industry, the A-listers donating to the crumbling economic problems in our country? We supported them: spending our hard earned money on their movies, right?
It could be a great non-profit for you to start Perez, Go get a government loan…millions from A-Listers, you'd save the world, and it would be great press for you!

Are you kidding me? Strike? Sure, it must be difficult for those "actors" in SAG that are actually doing other jobs to decide to strike…oh wait, they're already making money on something else, why not strike? It won't hurt them. BUT it will hurt those that just got their jobs back, and some who are still unemployed after the selfish writer strike. I can support those that are actually making a living off of acting, but that is such a minority. Is it really worth our economy suffering because of the SELFISH actors? C'mon…these people are not BRAIN SURGEONS…they're actors…if they're told to hold a product that they don't agree with, then don't take the job. In the end, they're supposed to be acting a part, if the public can't separate fact from fiction then it's their fault. I'm sick of actors boo-hoo'ing that life is so tough when they have a "job" that is not that hard. They do put in long hours and they must (usually) be good at what they do…but I don't think it's worth thousands of lost jobs AGAIN!

I'm getting tired of these over paid people. We in the real world are having it really hard. We are the ones in need. The public should strike.

Perez, please stick to your poorly designed (yet highly visited, i give credit where it's due) website, and stay out of things you know nothing about. You say strike, then I say you bankroll the salaries of all those who are to suffer from your ignorant commentary.

perez, i wish you would do more research before babbling on like an ignoramous on important topics. maybe you should stick with the gossip, cuz dudette, you dont know! this is just another cash grab by the media mogels out to fuck the average person, who does not make millions of dollars everytime they take a shit. why should companies with no artistic vision or talent make 1000's of times more $ than those that take the time to write, direct, and act in these productions? seriously, buy a clue and get into research mode.

You are an idiot. You have no affiliation with any of the unions so it doesn't affect you. You don't suffer in any way. I know you don't have an affiliation because I do with both and I checked the roster. All you've ever done is non-union, unscripted, reality tv that my pet gold fish could do and that requires no talent and no union affiliation. So until you know what you are talking about you need to be quiet.

They MUST go on strike! This might be the last good chance to set the rules regarding internet rights before it gets out of control. STRIKE NOW FOR THE FUTURE!! You have to get this right and it has to be right now! You'll never get rights back from the multinational corporations - never!

My sister works on a network show on the crew, she is not unionized and was severely effected by the writers strike last year. For the actors to strike, with the economy this bad causes the people who work in the industry that do not make millions to suffer more than you can imagine.
Supporting a strike at this point is very negligent on your part and as a reader from the beginning ,I am severely disappointed in you.
As someone who has risen to the top from nothing you should be supporting the underdog- not a strike.
