French First Lady "Hurt"

Looks like the French and Americans might have something in common. Gasp!

As we mentioned Thursday, Carla Bruni, the French first lady, is getting no love from music critics.

Her most recent album, out on Monday in the U.K., is being totally panned by the British media!

Well, it seems like some of the French public isn't so supportive of a pop star first lady.

Bruni told the French media, "Of course it hurts me, but I also find it quite natural. It's understandable that people can't help mixing up my work as an artist and my function. Maybe they feel offended by the fact the head of state's wife should make a record."

Yeah, singing songs about cocaine and lovers…not very first lady-like!

'Americans' would lose their shit if Michele Obama (or Cindy McCain) did that!

      Have you even heard this woman!? Her music is BRILLIANT. It's so beautiful. She was a folk singer before she got married, and she still is. BFD. Let her do what she is meant to do…which is clearly sing. You make it sound like she fucked her way into a high profile marriage, and JUST NOW decided she wants to be a singer…which is total bullshit. She has been around for a while, and if you had any sense at all, you'd be promoting the shit out of her instead of whatever the hell tranny techno crap you keep telling us is so hot.

      Listen to her before you judge her: search for her on myspace music and LISTEN. You will be very pleasantly surprised.

      I find it very amusing that she is so adamant that the critics are bad only because of her position and not because her album is not that great! Her first album was a success thanks to 1 or 2 songs, her second album was a big flop… She is not bad, but not great! She's probably been busier working on her image than on her album, that's it…. Why not accepting the fact that, maybe the critics are being fair and objective?

      Some of her stuff is very good. She has a style all her own, and probably has a niche audience. I wouldn't sweat the fact that it wasn't mainstream fare. A lot of the mainstream fare appeals to the middle of the curve, if you know what I mean. I hope she just keeps doing what she's doing. I checked out some of her tunes on Youtube, and quite liked a few of them . Music is its own reward intrinsically, and external reward comes less often than not, and is more about who you know. If Mutt Lange produced her, she'd probably sell millions.
