It's A Trend!

Magazines aren't the only ones in the dumps.

TV is hurting too!

Ad rates on television have fallen 11% in the second quarter.

Hey, at least oil prices aren't to blame.

The writer's strike is!

Dude, tv ratings are sucking because 1) there aren't that many good shows on anymore thanks to reality tv. TV has sucked for a looong time in my opinion and people are fed up trying to find shit to watch in the evening and are doing other things and 2) more people are having to work more than one job to make ends meet and don't have time to watch tv- the damn economy is bad

Advertisers have taken the cue and are cultivating their ads for internet exposure rather than print or TV.

Geez, I'd have though you would KNOW that.

Oil prices ARE to blame, Mario. High oil prices hurts every sector of our economy. You can thank your ol' buddy, Slick Willy Clinton, for the high gas prices because he vetoed A.N.W.R. drilling in 1997.

Well all this bodes well for PerezHilton.com.

Madison Avenue gave 8% of total ad spend to web media in 2006, will be 12% in 2008 and potentially as much as 18% by 2012. Certainly print, radio, TV (to a lesser extent) will be sucking wind as web media continues to stomp around in the garden. My guess is that sites like PerezHilton.com will enjoy some very long legs indeed!

Magazines are full of few articles, and NOTHING BUT ADVERTISING. Why would anyone spend $5 to read ads? We are hammered with them in every other aspect of our lives on a daily basis.

TV just plans sucks. I'm tired of paying over $60 a month just to find nothing worth watching. Next the cable companies will start losing customers. TV bites, BIG TIME. Reality TV is such bull shit, and there is nothing real about any of the shows. To those of you that think there is, HOW DUMB ARE YOU? The absolute worse are the celeb reality shows. Does the TV industry think we are idiots? Why don't they try getting away from bull shit reality shows and produce things worth watching? Oh yeah, because they cater to unintelligent idiots. It's called the dumbing down of America.

  27. Kel says – reply to this

    27

it's not the writer's strike, or oil prices. Magazines & television are suffering because of the internet.
why buy cable when you can see shows for free? oil prices…for once…have nothing to do with it.

  28. Daves says – reply to this

    28

thats because there is nothing good on tv.

and why waste paper getting old news you could of found on the internet? GO GREEN BITCHS

  29. raven says – reply to this

    29

Writers strike, yeah, but you gotta give "reality television" credit for driving some nails in the coffin. There are few that are worth a damn. They're cheap for the most part, but I really don't give a shit about watching the Lohans or Denise Richards. With a movie rental as close as your mailbox, or better still, your t.v.why bother to watch j-list celebs cling to the limelight?

  30. Hello says – reply to this

    30

I think the high oil prices are to blame…it seems as if every sector of the market is suffering right now - except the oil companies, that is. It's a trickle down effect… advertising budgets for companies trying to cut back are getting whacked - I think people are still watching TV and reading mags - it's the companies that pay for advertising that are trying deal with poor economic times - ads are expensive - so if you're trying to weather a storm, one of the first things you cut are expensive ad budgets…

    31

Because tv fucking sucks now!! And I'll admit that I have watched some crappy shows but now its ridiculously bad now. I haven't even turned on my tv all summer.

  32. criti says – reply to this

    32

Yes it started with the writers strike and it is only going to get worse when the actors strike. Don't they make ENOUGH money now! Anyway they can do what they want, during the writers strike I found CABLE, all kinds of cool shows I had never watched, like- the king of queens, reba, home improvement, still standing, and more. I find them even more enjoyable than the now shows. So have your strike, you over-payed babies, this is 1 viewer you have already lost!

  33. criti says – reply to this

    33

Well make that 6 viewers, as we are a family of 6!

  34. ceec says – reply to this

    34

1st - with the magazines-I have cut down tremendouly on the amout of magazines I read and I used to read alot of them. I found what is in most magazines are also downloaded onto the internet. I also can not afford to buy as many magazines. Even the crap ones are expensive. Maybe if they stopped paying millions for a wedding pic or baby pic they would be able to make the magazines more affordable.
2nd-tv sucks. There are too many reality shows with people I don't give a damn about and the series are written poorly. The strike made people lose interest in series and that is not good for new shows.

  35. 35

or, you know, it could be the fact that everyone fast forwards through the commercials?

  36. 36

According to McCain's Economic guy, Phil Gramm, we are all in a mental recession so people this is all in your heads! NOT!!!

  37. rober says – reply to this

    37

Bah, it has nothing to do with the writers strike you ignorant gaylord. It has everything to do with the lack of quality programming that people have to watch. People are tired of the reality T.V. format, the poorly produced and poorly acted crap that is available to watch. Shows like yours Mario, utter crap and bullshit…no one wants to watch it anymore then they want to wear your Hot Topic clothing. Crap is crap…there are enough intelligent people out there who have put their foot down and said enough it enough.

  38. yep says – reply to this

    38

While the writers were being jerks, trying to prove that they were worth more because people couldn't live without TV, people were finding out that they could live without TV. I love it! The writers were hypocrites in their strategy, thinking that without them the show couldn't go on, when without us, the viewers, the show would be pointless. To make matters worse, they never really apologized for putting out the viewers. Instead, they jumped on board a self-congratulatory campaign. Serves them right. As for the magazines, hey, it's time to go Green! Nuff said.

  39. ashle says – reply to this

    39

that's because tv SUCKS these days. all we have are crappy reality shows!! even the kids shows suck these days for the kids. WHO WATCHES TV THESE DAYS!!

  40. J says – reply to this

    40

Hey smartass - ad rates are always cheaper in 2Q than 1Q on TV. Pricing is based purely on demand.

  41. lisa says – reply to this

    41

    maybe it's the content…

  42. Vim says – reply to this

    42

Don't they get it yet? People are SICK, SICK, SICK, of all the liberal BS that these bum holes put out. Always trying to make the black guy the genius behind every story (WE KNOW HOW FAKE THAT IS) Always pushing the black on poor little sweet white girl as if anyone not drugged into submission would be interested in these diseased low lifes (see CDC website on STD'd and hiv/aids) America is sick and tired of the lying crap these media people try to sell as real..

  43. 43

TV ad rates are hurting because of the DVR. People have figured out that you can watch television without commercials and on their own schedules. And I'd be willing to bet that ad rates are going up in other places. You can't swing a dead cat anywhere without hitting some sort of advertisement.
