If you were hoping to try some authentic Chinese dog cuisine while in Beijing for the Olympics, you're out of luck if you eat at the officially designated Olympic restaurants.
The Chinese government has asked the sanctioned restaurants to strike dog off their menus.
Good call! That would totally freak out the Westerners!
According to the report, dog is eaten by some Chinese for its purported health-giving qualities.
What do U think? Should peeps be eating dogs???

I, personally, think its gross~ but then again, Mario is too! But back on point, look at other countries… they worship cows and have other things we eat as pets. So I really can't bash them. Its what they're used to. We could go somewhere and say we eat cows and they'd think it was wrong because they have cows at pets, or another animal as pets.
you know, it seems wrong and disgusting to us Americans, however, in different parts of the world, it's part of their cultures and is not taboo to them. Not all cultures are exactly the same.
I have eaten dog when in a third world country. It tastes like pork. It shouldn't be a big deal, but us westerners are too squeamish. It reminds us of our own beloved Fido.

I don't think that eating a dog is any different than eating a cow. I don't think that we should base what is food and what is not on cutness. Pigs are smarter than dogs and we eat pigs. Dogs and cats are the Sacred Cows of North America. Unless you are a vegetarian, you have no right to judge.

They will eat anything in China. Sorry. They do have cats and dogs as pets as I have heard that there are many left ownerless due to the recent earthquake. The problem is they don't have animal shelters there because they regard these animals as food. So they need other countries to adopt them. It is sick that they care so little for animals that as soon as someone looses a pet there is a carry-out ready to chop it up and hang it in the window.

These are all domesticated versions of wild animals. If you eat meat then eating another animal, (Rabbit dog cat ect.) esspecially ones domesticated for it should be no problem and its not gross.

Yes, it is exactly the same as eating poultry, beef, or pork here, except the dogs are not kept in as cruel of conditions as chickens, cows, or pigs here in the USA. I have travelled to China extensively, and have been explicit about not wanting to eat meat for "religious reasons". This is respected by Chinese. You can say that you do not eat pork or dog meat, and that will also be respected. The grossest thing I ever found my self eating was 'drunken crab'-the crab was still alive but had been partially paralyzed by being bathed in strong rice wine. It didn't realize it was still alive, and was completely horrified. UNTIL WE FIND A WAY TO HUMANELY SLAUGHTER (AND MONITOR THIS PRACTICE) AT LARGE SCALE CATTLE, POULTRY, AND HOG FARMS, WE HAVE NOTHING TO SAY ABOUT CHINESE EATING DOGS. personally, i would not want to eat a dog b/c in america dogs are beloved pets and friends. the thought of eating your friend is gross. BUT that doesnt make it wrong for someone else to eat dog, especially if they are raised where dogs are not held in such high regard. i think the chinese are just doing them. who cares? you can say the same for fish. but i have had fish as pets and dont have a problem eating them. lol. some feel eating ANY animal is wrong. so, im just going to say, every culture is different.

I'm an American who just got back from living in China for 10 months. There was nothing more disturbing to me than walking through a market and seeing fresh dog hanging there. I almost took a picture of it, but thought it was just too gross. I could tell you all kinds of stories…
