R.I.P.

Magazine ad pages fell 7.4% in America during the first half of this year.

Can we blame that on high oil prices???

No, you can't blame it on oil prices.

Blame it on allocating bigger portions marketing budgets to internet ads.

America needs a lot less of Madison Ave blasting "must have" crap in our faces. Way too much excess consumerism and debt as it is.

No, Perez. It's not the fault of high oil prices. It's the fault of entertainment and specialized news being available for free on the internet (ie: here). But that doesn't make us love you any less.

    9. 9

PEREZ! STOP using the "R.I.P." headline for stupid shit! It makes people think someone died.

Sure, blame it on high oil prices. You will be blaming it on the Democrats that way. Maybe you will actually start putting blame where it belongs.

Well considering that a photographer (for and ad or magazine) gets paid more than likly at the most for a cover $500 and for a back cover ad at lest $5000 it really sucks but considering that the company running the ad pays the magazine oh some where aroung $30,000 (depending on the magazine and placement) maybe it would be a GOOD thing foe photographers everywhere!!!(specs taken from ASMP handbook)Since we are DENIDED the right to a UNION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      25

I would probably blame it on people not buying magazines because they can find all the info they want online from bloggers like yourself. Just a guess.

    26. NYer says – reply to this

      26

No we blame it on YOU! People arent reading magazines like years ago cause of the internet and your site..dont let this get to your head either!

Re: ruffmama – Yes, Perez. Number 9, I agree. I'm always afraid it's gonna be some famous actor, actress, author, legend, statesman, etc.
(Notice I did not mention a Spears, a Hilton, a Lohan, a Hogan, or any other celebrity famous for doing nothing.)

    28. beth says – reply to this

      28

No but you can blame on internet sites such as yourself. I work an advertising campaign and we're shifting everything to online because a). the prices for online are way cheaper than print and b). you can monitor traffic and results much better with online than print. It's that simple - quit making everything into a political issue. It's clear by the comments that your liberal political spin on everything is starting to annoy your audience. You'd better hold back before your traffic, cpcs and ad rates drop because people are jumping ship to other gossip blogs.

shut up mario, you know nothing about economics, so why bother.

    31. Jodi says – reply to this

      31

Yes, let's face it. The US economy is in the crapper.

My only consolation is that this is going to affect the world economy to some degree since the US is the largest consumer of goods/resources. Now, I have nothing against other countries (in fact, I wish them well). But if I have to suffer everyone else should too!

k, c if you were educated u'd know that the INTERNET is to blame. its been whats been driving us (real) journalists up the wall for the past 7 years.

what the hell does that have to do with oil?

    34. Jenn says – reply to this

      34

No. You can't. I don't waste my money on magazines anymore since the internet provides all the news, gossip, etc. out there.

    35. wilma says – reply to this

      35

Blame it on the prices of these magazines, that is why I stopped buying them. And the fact that they & you have resorted to picking on kids and intruding in their lives. stars ask for what they get, but their kids do not!

    41. Serio says – reply to this

      41

Right, it has to do with rising gas prices. Magazines are yesteday. Why buy paper when you can access all rags and pubs online. Seriously Perez, stop inciting fear amongst ignorant people. You're perpetuating something that doesn't exist. Magazine ads are falling because the overall sale of mags are falling? Why?? Because people are more eco-conscious and not buying magazines anymore. For fuck's sake, you have the chance to report things to the masses, so why the fuck don't you do it with some veracity???

    42. go go says – reply to this

I hate to waste all that paper, and for what? I can get all my info on the web. Such a waste of resources.

Print is dead. Why pay for a magazine when you can get for free on the internet.

    44. Amber says – reply to this

      44

Everything is based on the prices of oil. It takes oil to transport magazines from the presses. It takes energy to print the magazines too.

Re: go go – I was just thinking that! Why waste paper (which I'm not sure is recyclable anymore with all that ink in it) when you can look online. Yes, computers use electricity but so many trees are saved.
