Who knew raving could cost you your eyesight?!?!
According to a new report, dozens of ravers in Russia have been blinded after their retinas were burned by a giant laser light show.
We thought raving was passe, dead, so '90s!
A total of 61 people have been admitted to hospitals across Moscow, city health officials confirmed.
Niet!!!!
Some ravers have lost up to 80 per cent of their vision and doctors say they are unlikely to recover.
Apparently, heavy rain forced rave organizers to erect massive tents for the an all-nighter and giant lasers that normally shoot into the sky were refracted into ravers' eyes.
Is this the end for Russian raves?
Next time, wear sunglasses when raving, y'all!

In the PNW we rave all the time!! There is even a few websites/message boards dedicated to those parties only. In the summer, every weekend there is at least two outdoor raves on one of the mountians near by!! Thought you knew what was in?

Honestly are you serious about that sunglasses comment? Sunglasses do NOT protect your eyes from the insensity of light generated by a laser beam. The correct choice of lens density and color is based on the wavelength and power of the specific laser being used. There are many different types of goggles to be worn based on the type of laser and intensity of light output.

Raving isn't dead Grandma. Electronica is the biggest music genre in the world, specifically Trance. Raves are simply electronica music festivals like any other concerts. DJs ARE producers and they showcase their own sounds n songs. Get with the program grandma!!! 70k people at the last electronica festival at la colesium - june 28th. Rock the bells didn't even get half as many people.

Raves actually bring in massive crowds all over the world. It's nothing to fill a building with 3000 people in a night. Have you not heard of DJ Irene, Tiesto, Bad Boy Bill, Paul Van Dyk, Diesel Boy? These are just a minute fraction of the many DJs out there. Most guys and girls these days are taking up spinning records. It's fun, not too difficult and you become a "mini" superstar. I can see why it's so attractive. Most main stream techno has trickled in the clubs everywhere. The song 'Satisfaction' has been on a commercial for Pete's sake. I remember when it first came out in the afterhours bars. It took about two years before it became mainstream, and by that time everyone was sick of listening to it. It's funny, I actually thought that most people knew about the thriving party/rave scene. I guess I was wrong.
Oh, and Russian have some pretty hard ass beats too!!
Oh and I should add that MUTEK(Montreal,QC), EVOLVE(Antigonish,NS), and Shambhala(Salmo,BC) are three major music festivals that happen every year in Canada. They bring anywhere from three thousand to ten thousand people with nothing but positive vibes to go around. It's a great experience, and one you'll never forget.
Oh, and don't think you have to be an E-tard to go there, not that there's anything wrong with E-tards. I used to be one many moons ago, but I still love the music and the people!!!

Its sad to hear about these people losing their eyesight when they were only trying to have fun and party. By the way the rave scene is not dead, in fact its starting up again in many places and has been going strong in Spring Break destinations such as Ibiza. Go to a rave its hell of a lot of fun, calling it "passe" just because you heard about them more in the 90's is immature. Having fun and dancing the night away never gets old.
