Coke Shame: Barenaked Ladies Band Member Arrested!

Remember that 90's band Barenaked Ladies?

Their singer, Steven J. Page, was arrested in central New York on Friday and was charged with fourth degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a felony.

The controlled substance is reportedly cocaine.

Cops supposedly saw Page and a 25-year old woman through a glass door sitting in front of a mound of coke on a table and busted them.

Officers were patrolling the neighborhood of 311 East Genesee Street when they spotted a car that was parked across a driveway with the door open. Police stopped and checked the vehicle, which was unoccupied. The officers then checked the house and surrounding neighborhood to find the owner and if see there was any problem. Police checking the apartment building at 311 Genesee Street saw a man and a woman through a glass door sitting at a kitchen table. The officers noticed something suspicious looking on the table, and the people inside quickly covered the table with a towel when they saw police at the door.

The Barenaked Ladies' manager said, "We’re confident Steven will be exonerated of the charges. In the meantime it’s business as usual.”

Stay away from drugs and you'll stay away from jail, kids!

    What's really sad is that they've crossed over into making music for kids now. Their most recent album was specifically geared toward children. They've been pimping themselves like crazy on the Canadian channel (Kids CBC) - most of their fans these days are under the age of 10. Sad, sad, sad. Way to set an example, guys.

    dude, I heard about this last Friday morning. We know the cop involved by proxy. I don't know any of this for actual fact, but according to what I heard, they parked a car badly on a lawn, and the cop went to the owner's house to check it out because he thought it might be stolen and abandoned. They were completely stupid and allowed the cop into the house. They threw a washcloth over a calcium pill that you apparently use to cut the bad stuff with (I'm not a druggie, so this could be wrong!). He supposedly left his wife and family for this chick in central NY who he met on either facebook or myspace. I can't tell you how icky it is, I used to love barenaked ladies.

    I LOVE BNL. I remember him having drug and/ or alcohol problems in the past but I thought those days were over. 9 years ago I saw their show in Washington DC and I saw he & his wife strolling their child around the area. They looked happy and I was happy for him. A lot can happen in 9 years. I feel sorry for his kids. I hope Ed isn't on drugs!!!

    I live in the town where this happened… the town is kind of an upscale suburb of Syracuse. Needless to say, things like this don't often happen here. And, this guy was an idiot by leaving his car running, with the passenger side door open, parked over the sidewalk… he practically invited the cops to the door. the cops really don't have that much to do here… there's hardly any crime besides dui's and shit. They had no probable cause and this is something going on in the privacy of their own house that HAD NO CAUSE to investigate. Nobody was in immediate danger. They were doing something illegal however, there was no fighting, nothing. The cops peeped in through a glass door and witnessed this.     Re: cuse – In today's syracuse newspaper there were some new deets… first off… steven page was seeing a girl that lived in this place… they got in a fight and she left. it was HER car that was left with the door open and that prompted the police to knock on the door.
    say what you will about civil liberties, and i agree with most of what youguys have had to say… but reallly?? its ok to blow coke right by an open window when you have some sort of domestic dicturbance going on at 2 in the morning?? all they would have had to do was pull the car in past the sidewalk, and that's not that difficult. in this town, likei said before, the cops don't have much to do… and because they're funded by outrageously high taxes, they're all over the place. and they're dicks on top of that. so… i think s.page could have been a little more discreet eh??

    This story made our front page…hahaha…TOOOO FUNNY!!! Apparently he has a girlfriend here, they got in a big fight over her hitting on another guy, and her friend calmed him down. GF took his car, so he was stuck. Thus, they made enough of a scene for the cops to come and catch him and her friend with coke.
