The singer has been diagnosed with hepatitis C, a liver disease which is spread through contact with infected blood.
Her diagnosis was made during a routine doctor visit.
Cole's publicist has also confirmed the news via a public statement, adding that she probably contacted the disease due to her drug use many years ago.
Natalie says, "I've been so fortunate to have learned so much from my past experiences. I am embraced by the love and support of my family and friends."
She adds, "I am committed to my belief in myself and in my abiding faith to meet this challenge with a heartfelt optimism and determination. This is how I intend to deal with this current challenge in my life."
Dr. Graham Woolf, Cole's main physician, has said that she has had a "terrific response to her medication and is now virus negative. This gives her an increased chance of cure."
"Coincidentally" - Cole is coming out with a new album in September.
Was this all just a desperate revelation to get attention????

Although there was no reason for her to go public with hepatitis…to take the leap that she's doing it for publicity is insane. She's probably doing it because as anyone in recovery will tell you, honesty is the best policy. You are just such a mean-spirited person, Perez.
I find it very sad and distasteful that you would rag on her after she has come forward and admitted that she contracted Hep C after prolonged drug use. A little honesty may go a long way in helping others understand what drug use can lead to. Shame on you.

People make mistakes in their lives, and it's not like she's still doing drugs today. If I were her, seeing that on my pic would make me want to go out and get high. I would be singing a totally different tune if she had just contracted Hep C and was still using drugs.

we all make mistakes in our lives, she has been off drugs for a long time. she has never wanted attention before, and she has had a long career. so why would she need it now? You can say things like that but there are many that have gotten off drugs successfully and go thru life living just as normal as any other person, i think it takes courage for someone to talk about their past drug addictions and to let people know she has hep c., there are some celebs who won't fess up to their drug addictions or get help…so lets talk sh*t about the selfish one instead cough cough *wino*

I am only 18 years old and i contracted hepatitis C from a blood transfusion when i was a baby. I am aware she contracted the virus by drug use, but dont make a statement referring the disease to just drug use.

Not very many of you except perhaps Gina remotely have a clue about the Hep C Virus. The chances of transmitting it sexually are very small and there is now a cure.

Depending on the Genotype you have (the most common in the US are Genotype 1,2,3) the treatment will either be 24 weeks or 48 weeks of Pegolated Interferon and Ribavirin. In a worst case scenario you feel like you have a bad case of the flu for the duration, itching and dry skin along with depression and thoughts of Suicide…the best case is that you feel almost nothing during treatment and I have found that this is the case more often then not. HCV can be in your system for 20-30 years and you may never know you have it. It is not a death sentence and with proper treatment, you can live a full rich happy life with normal relationships. There are the dangers of Liver Cancer and other challenges such as Cirrosis but it is a far different virus than HIV.

DON'T GET THEM CONFUSED!! Remember, Safe sex is always the best way and don't hate on the people with Hep C, there are millions of people who have it is the US and they are working on cures and additional research all the time.

If any of you know of any Veterans of any age with Hep C have them contact their local VA Hospital, they may be able to get free treatment through many Veterans Hospitals and the Hep C programs.

Dad got hep. c years ago from a blood transfusion during surgery. Eventually, he developed liver cancer and passed away. I would not have called him diseased. Will no longer check out your web site. You are mean.

RE: Gazze. As an LCSW working with transplant patients (many with Hep C) I am astonished that you would say that there is a "cure". No, there is NO CURE as of yet. Many of my clients don't respond to either Interferon or Ribavirin. I appreciate your positive outlook, but I still lose many clients due to complications of Hep C. Your logic is similar to comparing HIV cocktails to a cure. Prolonged quality of life, perhaps, but not a cure.
FOLKS - LISTEN UP: (!)
Hep C can ONLY be found if by specifically looking for it. It CANNOT be found with a "regular" blood test (many people find out by "donating" blood).
DRUG USERS BEWARE: DON'T share straws, dollar bills, etc., as a person's nose "secretions" can be left behind on this drug paraphernalia, hence, transmitting blood, secretions, etc.
CRACK & HEROIN USERS: Sharing needles, pipes, bongs, (LOTSA Mouth BACTERIA), etc., is just plain nasty, as well as just plain STUPID!
TATOO LOVERS: Tainted needles CAN TRANSFER this disease!
P.S. Statistics show that MILLIONS of people in America are walking around with this FATAL disease and don't know it (remember, this disease can ONLY be found by testing for it).
