Filed under: Legal Matters > Akon

zeeexy.jpg

Akon is getting one more month as a free man.

The criminal case against the singer has just been adjourned today until next month, on August 6th.

The case stems from last year's incident when a crazed Akon threw a 15 year-old fan off stage at the 2007 KFEST concert in June.

In December of last year, Akon plead not guilty to charges of second-degree harassment and endangering the welfare of a minor.

Currently, he could face 1 year and 15 days in jail if he gets convicted.

As for the boy's mother, Patricia Smith, she attended the case hearing this morning and called it "pretty typical."

She adds, "People can just hang in there long enough until the case goes in their favor."

True.

Do U think Akon should be held accountable?

No. Would have that 15 year old been held accountable if he committed a crime when he was on stage. Hell no. Kids think they could get away with whatever they want and don't have to pay the time for the crime. It's about time people gave them a taste of their own medicine. Have you seen the state of our schools. I sure would hate to be a teacher now because these asshole kids are so violent, disrespectful and you name they are it.

He tossed a minor off his stage and into the crowd. It was caught on video. What possible excuse could there be for not wanting to hold him accountable?

    CONVICT MUSIC.

    25

I think they were both in the wrong. The boy was wrong for being disrespectful and throwing stuff at akon, and akon was wrong for the obvious reason . they should settle with money given to the boys family, but I don’t think akon should go to jail.

  26. Tony says – reply to this
    26

No. The kid throw something at him and I feel he got what he deserve.
Akon could have gotten hit and hurt with the object this punk throw.

  27. Rache says – reply to this
    27

No he shouldn't. The club was for people 18 and older. She shouldn't have been there in the first place. This behavior is common at concerts and Akon would not be in this situation if the girl's parents and club owners held up their own responsibilities.

  28. josov says – reply to this
    28

YES!!! After viewing the video Akon should be held accountable…By the looks of it I'm pretty sure the 15 yr old suffered some major cuts and bruses.

Have the people who are commenting that the minor shouldn't have been on the stage even watch the video?

Akon reaches down into the crowd and drags the kid up onto the stage before tossing him. The kid didn't climb up there on his own.

he wins either way. He'll go free and get away with hurting a kid. Or, he'll go to jail and get street cred which will help his career. No coincidence he attacked a white kid. Kid's family should sue and set the kid up for life.

No he should no be held accountable. That child shouldn't have been on the stage and how was Akon to know that he was a minor?

  38. me says – reply to this
    38

He should get the max sentence for be a retaliating idiot. You're an adult…ACT LIKE ONE!! Only someone with the sense of a 5 year old would act like that. You won't find me throwing kids around. It's called child abuse. Someone should throw his dumb ass in a crowd and see how much he likes it. It wasn't his position to discipline the kid, eventhough the kid was wrong too. He should have let the security on hand do their job. Any person with sense would realize that.

  39. nicol says – reply to this
    39

no. i was at that concert, right there where the kid was thrown. the kid antagonized akon by throwing something at him first. then when he was thrown off he was smiling the whole time acting lik it was the greatest thing to ever happen to him.

  40. Post says – reply to this
    40

For those of you who said he is not guilty… watch the video!!! The whole thing… the kid didn't do anything wrong… and it wasn't a usual toss into the audience… it was a THROW DOWN; cause Akon was pissed someone threw something at him. Maybe Perez can post the video again….

  41. Harry says – reply to this
    41

It depends on how repentant he is and what damages were suffered by the child. But actually, since drugs are against the law, why aren't the performers, the promoters, the managers, the stagehands and the entire audience all busted for illegal possession and use of controlled substances? What usually happens at such concerts? Total dissociation of personality, serious chemical damage to the structures of the brain, often damage to the inner ear and cochlea, unknown and unspecified levels of mental and emotional damage, the expansion of the deathly aura of weirdness and destruction to the surrounding neighborhood and the natural environment, and all kinds of illegal acts, up to and including murder. Are we nuts? It would be a lot of stupid illegal fun if it were not such a nightmare. We remember when concerts used to be pleasant and beneficial, and the audience would return home better off for having attended.

no a crazed kid he probably deserved it!! control your kids people

  46. 46

Um to an extent but it was an over 21 show some stupid ass kid shouldnt be there in the first place! The mother is stupid too! HELLO dont you know where your effin kid is!

  47. Chick says – reply to this
    47

If Akon hadn't have done it, one of the security would have.
The kid shouldn't have even got up there, it should be pretty obvious that
a security guard would have thrown him out completly for doing it.
At the end of the day, the kid shouldn't have done it, if your at a concert, your there to just watch it, you shouldn't try and get up on stage. And if your actually stupid enough to do it, you need to be prepared for the consiquences, no matter what they are. The kid could have done much more to akon (yeah, even though the kids only 15, but there seems to be no limits for kids these days anyway) so akon was just trying to protect himself anyway, people should just let it go, instead of trying to get money from him!

Akon should not be held acountable because that 15 year old boy had no business at the Akon concert let alone throwing things at Akon. And his mother "pretty typical" my ass where the hell was she when her bad ass kid was at an Akon concert throwing stuff at Akon. She just wants MONEY!!! The kid wasn't even hurt get OVER IT!

  51. 51

He certainly should. He bodily picked up the kid and threw him off of a stage. If that was my kid, I would have Akon's ass in a sling before he could say, "Oh-oh".

Of course not. Black people, especially rich and famous ones, should be above the law and are entitled to break all the laws.

  55. Kara says – reply to this

He should ABSOLUTELY be held accountable for his actions. Being "famous" doesn't give him the right to assault anyone… especially a minor.

I agree he should be held accountable for his actions but thankfully he's not being thrown in jail just yet, I have tickets to his concert tonight in Saskatoon, haha. I wouldn't wanna miss out on that!

Yes, Akon should go 2 jail, who da hell does he think he is throwing a fan da way he did. Akon must have forgotten that just cause you are a celebrity doesn't mean U can do shiz like that.

I hope da judge starts 2 give people who behave in this type of way harsh sentences so that they can learn a lesson or two. Some may say it wasn't right that the kid threw something at him, and no it wasn't but Akon has plenty of security and could have asked for the kid to be escorted. Akon is a wimp.
    Hope they boycott Akon's Music…

Of course he should be held accountable. NO ONE and I repeat NO ONE has the right to put their hands on another human being. I hope he gets jail. AND pays the victim lots of that cash. Paying the cash will hurt him more.

    69

Without question…he should be held accountable. Otherwise these entertainers, with egos that are off the charts, will raise the bar of their antics. After I saw the video clip of him tossing the kid I vowed to never buy another of his songs ever again. He could have called the kid out and have him removed, instead he had to toss him off the stage. He needs to be knocked the f$&%^ out! He's just a bully fronting as a real man. He probably thinks smacking a woman around is cool too. Lame.

  70. Gatic says – reply to this
    70

It is totally his fault… I was at that concert and it wasn't paper it was a rubber purple frisbee that was thrown and for everyone's info the entire crowd was throwing them along with beach balls… The kid did not intentionally hit Akon it was a total accident… Akon is a little bitch and wanted to act like he was all grown and tough… He has a song called Locked Up well now he can write the sequal!

that little kid should have just landed on his head and died when he got thrown. that way it would have been a lot harder for akon to get out of shits wit the court. and we would have 1 less dumbass walking the earth.

  73. E says – reply to this
    73

YES throw his ass in jail or do SOMETHING! He wants to be a convict so bad that he should get a dose of it and see what it's really like. Only in America will someone whose lyrics are about being a criminal (when he never really was) get famous.
