As we told you earlier this week, the singer from the '90s band Barenaked Ladies, Steven Page, was arrested in New York last Friday and charged with fourth degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a felony.
The substance is said to be cocaine.
To that, the Barenaked Ladies' manager had said, "We’re confident Steven will be exonerated of the charges. In the meantime it’s business as usual.”
Even their official website had stated, "Steven has pleaded not guilty to the charges against him and the validity of the charges against Steven will be strongly contested. While this is happening, it's business as usual for Barenaked Ladies. We will continue to perform and look forward to heading into the studio later this year to record a new album. "
Well, it seems things aren't looking too good for the singer.
In fact, according to their updated official site now, they've already started to cancel shows.
It says, "Update to our fans on the Disney Music Block Party Shows. Barenaked Ladies Manager Terry McBride announced today that the band has chosen to cancel its appearances at the Disney Music Block Party planned for late August in Long Island."
The group released a kids album earlier this year.
"Members of the band completely support Steven Page,” said McBride, “but we don’t want to put Disney in an awkward position before issues involving Steven’s arrest are resolved.”
So thanks to Page and his reported drug use, now his band is suffering as well.
Time to find a new lead singer!

funny story. i worked with Stephen a few years back and he told me a story of touring the Brit band, The Beautiful South and how they were such a mess cuz the lead singer, Paul, was deep into crack cocaine and had to cancel shows because the singer lost his voice. Hypocrit.

The man has had a horrible year, has struggled with depression since the band hit it big (NEARLY 20 YEARS AGO AND ARE STILL SELLING MILLIONS OF RECORDS). They don't need a new lead singer. They need a healthy singer - one who has gotten the help he needs to deal with the recent deaths in his family, the breakup of his marriage, and his ongoing problems with depression. He also needs to drop the girlfriend, as someone else stated.
Funny how when it's someone whose ass you're sucking who's on her 3rd or 4th or 5th arrest for DUI or drug possession, you'll say "Oh, poor dear, stay well, take care of yourself" but when it's not someone who invites you to parties, you get all judgmental.
Yep, he should dump that g/f. I saw them together last summer on the streetcar and did not like the look of her (if that's the same one). I was shocked because I had the feeling they were together but news of his separation from his wife hadn't been made public.

The Barenaked ladies are not a fucking 90's band, they are still producing music, and are still relevant on the international music scene.
Second - I am not one to give "celebs" the ben of the doubt - however, Having personally interviewed Mr. Page on more than one occasion, and seeing his work with the New Democratic Party of Canada first hand, not to mention numerous other examples of responsible anti-typical celebutard behavior - I am one hundred per cent confident that he is not the sort of slime we see far too often oozing from our big bad southern neighbour - Hollywood retards - and am holding out on the verdict - as a "reporter" of sorts ( though as a journalist I hate to grace you with that title ) you should do the same . I will graciously direct you towards some lit covering Canadian laws of defemation - slander.

In the many years that this great band has been together its members have always proved to be positive role models to their listeners and one mistake by one band member does not completly change their reputation.
If every band who's lead singer was linked with had to find a replacement where would bands like the Rolling Stones and aerosmith (just to name a couple) be today.
