Who would ever have pictured the Fonz from Happy Days as a classical actor?
Well, while not busy appearing at your local car show, Henry Winkler will now be joining the British Milton Keynes Theatre as Captain Hook for this year's pantomime, Peter Pan.

Winkler is one of the first American stars to ever be cast in a British pantomime by First Family Entertainment.
Milton Keynes Theatre's Chief Executive Officer, Elizabeth Adlington, said "We are extremely privileged that such an iconic international star will be enjoying the family pantomime tradition here in Milton Keynes, and I look forward to welcoming him to our theatre".
Winkler adds, "Being in panto equals joy, and playing Captain Hook gives me joy. How great to share this fantastic adventure with the audience in Milton Keynes."
The show will premier this December 5th through January 18th.
If we're in England during the holidays, we might just have to drop on by.

Perez … you need to get proper research into pantomime done. John Barrowman earns £60k (yes, over $100000) a WEEK for pantomime in London!!! And Mickey Rooney did panto here last year. Fonzie was nowhere near "one of the first". Loads of yanks have done panto.

Winkler has an MFA from Yale Drama, not just a BA from NYU, you hack. If you had half his chops, you might have been able to jump start your career.
FYI - Pantomime in the British Music Hall tradition involves taking a story familiar to all (Peter Pan, Jack and the Beanstalk, etc.) and creating topical satire while retaining the basic structure. Generally speaking one of the older female roles is actually a man in drag. It can be quite lucrative, quite enjoyable (when done well), and worth seeing. A great British Christmas tradition.
Who knows, if your "career" lasts longer than 3 years, you might eventually be well known enough to get an invite to do it someday, you self-aggrandizing blowhard.

Perez, you are actualy wrong. Panto is in the UK something very special and they allways invite top actors to perform special roles. I saw Winkler 2 years ago as Peter Pan in the Wimbledon Theater and he was outstanding.

Winkler is not NEW to panto - he did Peter Pan in Wimbledon 2 years ago and played the same role (Hook) and yes he gets paid a lot. I have worked for First Family twice now doing pantos at christmas and the pay is great for celebs - i did mine with Patrick Duffy from Dallas and he got the crowds in!!!!!

henry rules. he did captain hook last year in surrey, uk. it was a blast seeing him. of course he threw in a few fonzie throw backs but the crowd loved it and we did too. i almost sent you a link perezzers to give him some press about it. it is great. the world is a stage in london. so i would think he would make big bucks over here. the shows were sold out. as americans abroad it was a fabulous experience. i only wished i could have bought him a drink on new years. winkler is the bomb!

Henry Winkler is an incredibly nice, gracious person. Always professional and down to earth. His role of The Fonz is a big part of Pop Culture. The leather jacket is in the Smithsonian. Besides that role, he's shown his acting chops in several films and TV guest appearances. Leave him alone! Go back to making rude comments about people who deserve it.
