wouldn't be possible, while gays are currently allowed to get married in CA and MA, naturalizing a married citizen's partner is under Federal Jurisdiction, and currently the Federal government does not recognize same-sex marriages. So it is impossible for Same-sex couples to get these rights.

Thanks Gigi, yes the US gov't does not recognize federal rights onto same sex couple, so gay boys and girls can not obtain a green card eventhough they're married or has a domestic partnership status. SUCKS!!!

I'm doubting your story. Do you realize HOW insanely, ridiculously, difficult it is to become an American citizen. I know someone right now from South America who recently married an American, who she has been engaged to for three years and she didn't miraculously get a green card and become a citizen just because they got married. It could take her a few YEARS to gain citizenship, you have to hire an attorney and go through all kinds of rigorous and emotionally taxing broohaha. They don't just hand out green cards like they're candy these days. They must have married years ago, or there is something SHADY going on there to begin with.

Just because California is now recognizing gay marriage does not mean the federal government follows suit. Unfortunately, there is absolutely nothing in federal stipulations to honor gay and lesbian relationships with regards to green cards.
Our country really needs to get on the ball and recognize civil partnerships like in England. Regardless of sex or marriage status, if you can prove you've lived with someone in a romantic relationship for 2 years or more, you are entitled to get them a visa to live in England with you. Works out really well for people that go there for school and fall in love. Gay and Straight.

You do not have to be married for at least 5 years to get a green card. It would be great if people would actually read the US government's websites on the issue.
My husband and I were married for a little over a year and a half when we applied for his.
I also was given a British spousal visa 10 days after we were married. And that's only because we went on our honeymoon first. I could have had one the next day, so long as you do the paperwork right and pay the fees.
I'll agree that the U.S. greencard process is more involved and takes longer. The interview alone is terrifying. There are background checks and physicals, and forms out the whazzooo. But getting one does not require a lawyer, or more than the roughly $2500 in fees it takes now adays. You just have to know how to read, and follow instructions.
It depends on how long they're married. But that's messed up you would "out" someone like that without knowing for sure. Even if Lance wanted to marry the guy, the federal government doesn't recognize same sex marriages! That's right, gays are not allowed to bring their loved ones into the country! And for you to bring out the fact that he married a lesbian just to get a green card is messed up.
