perez - maybe if you didn't slam lohan and samantha every time you bring them up, kids wouldn't feel it was cool to trample over peoples' self esteem just because they are gay or not your idea of what trendy should look like.

I don't know whether to seem hopeful that kids feel more ready to come out earlier and feel safer to do so, or to feel bad that they have to be subject to gay hate crimes at a younger age, an age where they possibly are more vulnerable. I have a nephew who is obviously gay, he is now 13 and when he turned 11 he began hiding his homosexuality more and more. Now he even claims to have a girlfriend. We all know its for show, I try and let him be himself in front of me. He's a great kid.

Research shows kids as yourg as 3 and 4 knowing they are more like the opposite sex. It is normally people who are so miserable with their own life that they must make hateful comments about others to make themselves feel better. I feel sorry for people like you. I bet you are obese, or a divorcee, or someone who people hate so you want to feel better about yourself.. GET HELP ..QUICKLY DUMBASS

I read this article a few days ago, and I think the main problem here is that teachers just won't talk about it because they don't think its kid-friendly discussion. Talking about being gay doesn't necessarily mean talking about sex. When my teacher talks about her husband, she is obviously attracted to him, but she doesn't bring up that they have sex. You don't have to. What's so unclean about someone just liking someone else? You don't have to mention what they do in bed for kids to get it. More importantly, at a younger age is when kids start to develop their opinions. What better way to open their minds? Even today, kids are raised with sexist presumptions that liking males - whether you be male or female - makes you weak. Which is why anything feminine is immediately countered with the phrase "that's so gay". And kids say this without thinking. Take the funeral example in the article. Even an artistic expression of mourning has to be made a sign of weakness. It's ridiculous. This is where we need to start taking action. If Cinderella can love Prince Charming, why can't a male hero have a prince of his own?

I have 1 gay brother and 1 lesbian sister…which was fine when I first found out about their sexual proclivities (when I was in my early 20's). But 20+ years down the road….they, and their partners, are THE most narcissistic, ego-maniacal, and self-centered people I have ever come across.

What they have put me and my son through (we are STRAIGHT, BTW)…could make a 'movie of the week' on Lifetime. For years, I told my son to never judge homosexuals…but, now, I couldn't care less if he tortured every one of them (and, I have more than enough money to bail him out of jail, if/when he does).

      Re: Don
You honestly think the "main problem here" is TEACHERS not talking to their students about being gay?
We heap more and more responsibilities for the teachers of the country for them to shoulder and parents take less and less. Teachers would be able to effectively do their jobs if parents did theirs. But because there are more parents in the world than teachers, and thus more lazy parents than lazy teachers (because it doesn't take just a whole lot of effort to suddenly become a parent, but it takes quite a bit to become a teacher), the parents are passing the buck. "Hey teach, raise my kid for me!" A teacher who sees a kid 45 minutes a day for 9 months of his life can do SOME things, but absolutely NOT everything. It just isn't possible. ESPECIALLY if by the time the teacher even meets the kid, he's already screwed up in the head. (which, of course, is almost always the case)

It starts at home. School can help, but in reality, school can only help a fraction of what a good parent and a good home can do.

It's the school's fault that this happened. This kid taunted other kids and used his "homosexuality" as a weapon. I am not saying this kid deserved to die but teachers and the school should have intervened before the kid with the fun did. He was basically a bully and before he turned out to be the victim, everyone else was his victim. School's fault completely…and the teacher that gave the boy a dress?!? Totally inappropiate and out of line.

When the parents are willing to come home, after a 9-5 shift, turn off the TV, unplug the phone and forego the pre-dinner martini/beer/cocktail…then, maybe they will have the 'nerve' to sit down with their kids and have a talk.

ROMANS 1:27 - In the same way, their males also abandoned their natural sexual function toward females and burned with lust toward one another. Males committed indecent acts with males, and received within themselves the appropriate penalty for their perversion…. Ummmm, yeah, the truth hurts, doesn't it. There is no such thing as a "homosexual trait" … there are, however, such things as "generational curses" - EXODUS 1:5 - I the Lord your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and the fourth generation of those who hate me… I know, I know - you'll retort with a bunch of cursing and telling me I'm a close minded, gay bashing hater - but your angry, empty insults only prove that you know that there is more truth in what I'm saying than you would like to admit… REPENT & Ask forgiveness for your sins and God can cleanse and deliver you from your perversion. (and no, I'm not being sarcastic, God can deliver you from the spirit of homosexuality, b/c yes, it is an evil spirit controlled by the devil…don't believe, me, go crack open the Bible - aka: GOD'S WORD - and see for yourself!)

Unfortuneatly far too many parents don't care to (or aren't able to) invest the same time in their children as they do in other aspects of their lives. This is really a societal issue at its core.

    41. 41

Such a sad commentary on the kids coming up today. Maybe even sadder commentary on the adults of today, though. I think there is too much emphasis on letting kids think everything is okay and acceptable, like acting out, bullying, violence, etc. Heaven forbid we punish a child these days. I'm not perfect by any means, but I was brought up in a loving, Christian home, with parents who took up time with me but also taught me to respect other people. When I did something wrong, I had to face the consequences. And no, I don't particularly believe that homosexuality is "right", but I don't judge other people by that, and I don't criticize them or try to change them. I don't think that this kid was especially bright in being flamboyant just "to see them squirm", but there is nothing that would justify his murder. Sorry I'm rambling, but I feel pretty strongly about this.

I do NOT support violence against gays, but I will say that I understand how this happened. This kid was no innocent little lamb. He loathed himself because he was gay and rubbing it in the faces of everyone around him was his way of venting his anger. He was a messed up kid who needed intensive therapy. This is just one more case of the gay community using a half-truth smokescreen sympathy story to try and further their agenda. This kid did not deserve to die. That's an indisuptable fact BUT his behavior was ridiculously inviting of retaliation from his classmates. He WANTED them to do to him that which he lacked the courage to do himself. This was not a "hate crime". This was emotionally immature kids being FORCED to deal with extremely grown up issues for which they are ill-equipped. If the kid had left his sex life out of his school life, he would still be here today. Just because you're gay doesn't mean that you have to make it the central theme and motivation for everything you say and do.

I like how everyone has an agenda that is gay and it's always political. The vice principal clearly pushed this boy so she could make something out of what was going on for her own gain. I think if anything she was tring to help Larry. I do think that it was wrong of the school to let Larry go around and tease the boys. That right there should have been stopped. But it's still sad in this day and age that people still see homophobia as the last form of bigitry that can go on in America. And it's even worse when people come out and say that what Brandon did was the right thing since "God" says that being a homosexual is wrong and Larry was the one that brough this on himself.

The gender identity issues are masking the deeper issues, in my opinion; an abandoned, adoptee on the one hand, with attachment disorder and on the other side of the conflict, a boy who grew up in a household where extreme and deadly violence was the normal mode of self expression. These emotional issues caused by rampant violence and neglect are the ones that must be addressed if teens and tweens are going to have a safe environment to explore any aspect of their identity, not only gay/lesbian transgender issues.

The EO green staff just brushed it off. If Larry hadn't targeted Brandon. Brandon would not have killed Larry. It was not right, but they're teens. They don't think before they act. Brandon was also a victim, nobody had printed that in the VC star until somebody wrote in. Its tragic on both sides.

One more for the road: HOSEA 4:6 - My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because you have rejected knowledge, I will also reject you, that you shall be no priest to me: seeing you have forgotten the law of your God, I will also forget your children.
(TRUTH HURTS…but it's up to you how much!)

      Perez,
I'm not sure if you read these comments but I still feel I must say THANKS!! Initially I lumped your site together with the other celeb blogs…boy was I wrong. As a gay man who is sick and tired of the homophobic attitude in our country, I cannot thank you enough for highlighting gay issues in the media and the country at large. You are not a run of the mill media whore…you're a media whore with a message and that ROCKS!! thanks again, Bobby

Re: tasha – 1. God does love everyone - but he HATES sin - actually the WORD OF GOD calls Homosexuality "an abomination to the Lord". 2. God's Word is infallible - but it's clear that you do not know God's Word - you are void of any true knowledge or wisdom… clearly, since Proverbs 9:10 says "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom"…that means you're behind having even started to have any real wisdom… so basically, I'm attempting to speak knowledge to an ape right now. pointless. Go read the Bible, then come back once you know what you're talking about… actually, that goes for anyone who sits there on their imaginery throne, speaking blasphemies about a God they've hardened their ignorant hearts to by putting their trust and faith in the widom of the WORLD… so sad.

Re: tasha – …and again, I'll say in response to your continued word vomitting of 100% ignorance: You can not understand the working of the Holy Spirit when he does not live inside you - as he does in believers who have put their faith in Jesus - so it stands to reason that you would not be able to fathom the Bible having been written under the direction of God's own spirit… you're, as I said before, void of any real wisdom. Hitting one's head against a brick wall will accomplish nothing but a self-induced headache…so on that note, End of discussion.

Re: TRUTH – Dude shut the fuck up. You're in a website that is written by a gay man. Why the fuck are you here? I'm christian and believe in God, but I'm smart enough to know, that there are other religions, and other opinions, etc. I accept gay people, i don't judge them it's THEIR life. Don't you think they have suffered enough with ignorant people like you telling them that its wrong that they are like that? Don't you think that they have heard the shit that you're saying over and over? I have gay friends, some of them are the closest. I support them, with their choices and treat them just like i would like to be treated. Would you like to be treated like you're treating them? Would you like people telling you, that it's wrong to be you? I don't think so, so please shut the fuck up. I'm tired of close-minded people like you.

Re: Shortie1234 – In response to your statement: "I'm christian and believe in God" the Bible says in MATTHEW 7:16-20 - “You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thorn bushes or figs from thistles? Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Therefore by their fruits you will know them.” … with as many times as you dropped the "F-Bomb" I think it's safe to say you will be one that says to Jesus, "Lord, Lord!" to which he'll reply, "Depart from me, I never knew you!" … as for me being here - hun, if you're Christian, it is your command from GOD to preach the TRUTH - be it offensive or not - you know what scripture comes to mind when I think of people like you who claim Christ and then bear the fruit you're bearing: MATTHEW 6:23 - Therefore, if the light within you has turned into darkness, how great is that darkness! … it's people like you that are tarnishing the name "Christian". You should be ashamed.

Just one question, why are you wasting your time saying what you have to say (which clearly, no one appreciates). And specially when you're in a gay man's website. Go preach some where else. You are just wasting your time. Get a life.

Re: SWEET – …responses like that only further my point that you, like so many who think they have it all figured out, are in reality void of any knowledge or true wisdom. It's obvious by your response… if you can call it that…. that you have no answer - and there's a reason for that, you want to know why??? It's b/c God's Word is indisputable and infallible. So the only thing you can come up with is ignorant cussing and idiot babble about "YOU DELUDED @**HOLES JUST LOVE TO QUOTE THAT PHONY HORSES**T DON'T YA? AS FOR THE "TRUTH", IT'S JUST YOUR MENTAL ILLNESS THAT MANIFESTS ITSELF AS REVELATION!" … Here's some revelation for you - pay attention, you might learn something….though I doubt it: LUKE 12:10 - Everyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but the person who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven…the Bible is inspired of the Holy Spirit…so you calling it what you did, that's blasphemy - better get your mouth in check - or spend your eternal life in a lake of fire…your call!
