Another sign that the economy is in the shitter: things are not well at the fashion bible, Vogue magazine.
Ad pages are down this year for the mag's September issue.
Last year's Sept. issue had 50 more ad pages than this year's!
The coveted September issue of all the fashion magazine's are usually the biggest - with more ad pages - than any other issue of the year.
This is not a good indicator of things to come!

I used to subscribe to Vogue, but didn't renew…I'm sorry this mag just got too luxe. My husband and I are both attorneys and make decent money but I still can't afford any of the shit Vogue writes about. Seriously, who spends $20,000 on an outfit?

The reason people don't read Vogue anymore is because they've started pandering to the readership of US Weekly and Life & Style. People who used to seriously read Vogue were the people who cared about fashion as a high art, not just about finding the "Right Jeans for Any Body!" I know I long ago abandoned Anna Wintour and her endless parade of movie star covers for French Vogue, and I haven't looked back.
Because fashion blogs are the new magazines and so much better!!! Go go gadget….. internet fashion!!! Magazines waste paper and take longer to get to the public.

I never bought Vogue magazine and couldn't understand why anyone would. Why would you pay for a magazine that was NOTHING but ads? We are bombarded with ads daily I'm sure as hell not going to pay for them.
Ok Perez if youre going to steal your news from NY Mag at least report the whole truth, yes while Vogue's ad pages will being going down in September Elle's will be going up making it the largest September issue ever.
The economy is one (huge) factor but it's also the fact that more websites are doing a better and more original job than Anna Cuntour and her Vogue minions will ever do. A concept you should be fairly familiar with ^^. Who reads the American Vogue anyway? Bergdorf Blondes wearing Tory Burch who go the Hamptons during summer. Nothing wrong with that but it's such a one-sided view of fashion. If it were up to Anna the average fashion lover didn't even know about the existence of non-preppy fashion. I stopped reading the American Vogue a long time ago. The French Vogue is edgier, diverse and more original. For my indie/hipster mix I go to Nylon, Hintmag and the personal style sites such as Style bubble and previously Stylebytes. If I want more sophisticated, modern elegance i'll visit the Sartorialist.

Sucks for Vogue but actually wouldn't mind if they cut back ads with at least 75%. (will happen anyway as advertising on the Internet is def the future) Every time I buy US Vogue I feel like a fool, flipping through at least 50 pages of ads before finding actual text. Not to speak about the horrific "fashion" and "style" Anna and her vulgar slaves shove down your throat. Am not surprised Elle is doing better, they have at least some interesting content. For real fashion and pretty good content Elle UK and French Vogue are better options.

Most publishers have seen a drop in ad pages. It's a combo of weak economy and more readers turning to the internet. Magazines are adjusting by using cheaper paper, firing employees and cutting back on editorial. It's been going on for a long time now.

It's completely over-hyped, the articles are shit, the editorials are dull…the magazine has nothing going for it. W is where it's at!
Vogue SUCKS, I've loved it since I was 12, but now it is so out of touch. Case in point: their "Cheap Chic: Strategies for Shopping the Trends on a Budget” was a fucking joke. The cheap items were each coming in just under $500. Oh yeah and some "cheap" tees at $100. Fuck you Anna Frigid Wintour. Are you kidding? You can get a great shaped tee for $10 at Target that looks just like your $100 Marc by Marc Jacobs shit. Nothing that Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough have ever made is interesting or beautiful, but because Anna wants to take them out on a leash and have them as her pets, we readers have to look at there played, derivative Proenza Shouler shit. Charles Townsend should read the writing on the wall and dump Anna, we need someone like Carine Roitfeld to bring US Vogue into the 21st Century.
But isn't it better to have less adds? I do like the ads that feature beautiful pictures of models but a few times a year, magazines announce on their covers that there's 100+ pages cuz it's a special fashion preview and then you open it up and realize that its 100+ pages of ads!!! I always fall for it but I'm always hopeful that there will be more pages that aren't ads!
