Looks like they are all out of good ideas, or he's just in need of a paycheck!
Reports are surfacing that 22 years after the release of Top Gun, they've decided to make a sequel.
Tom Cruise is said to be in talks to reprise his role of Lt. Pete "Maverick" Mitchell.
Yea, that's what we want to see. A 46 year-old Maverick.
An inside source says, "The idea is Maverick is at the Top Gun school as an instructor - and this time it is he who has to deal with a cocky new female pilot."
Let's hope they don't cast Katie Holmes as the cocky new pilot.
Cruise hasn't had much success at the box office lately, with Mission Impossible III performing below expectations and brining in less money than the first film.
Not to mention his last film, Lions for Lambs , which was released last year and attacked by critics.
Looks like it's time for Cruise to retire.

I liked Lions For Lambs! It was a decent movie.

Lions for Lambs was great movie. It got bad press because Tom Cruise was acting so stupid about scientology.

Tom should stick to Scientology promotional videos. It's the only time he's really entertaining to watch these days! (P.S. as someone who was THIS close to becoming a Scientologist, I can say that he is actually one of the more "normal" ones! Scary!)
MI3 still did very well-OK, I do not like the guy at all, but there are plenty of actors older than him. What he has to realize is that he is not 'HOT' and has to take roles that suit him better. He has to realize that he is not his buddy, Will Smith, who can do comedy very well. Unfortunately, he does not seem like he will take supporting roles. Or go down in price. I liked Lions for Lambs even though it had Tom in it. Towards the end of the movie it makes you think about all that is going on in the government and overseas.

I am a 48 yo mother of 3- who has watched his career from the beginning… I say- give him credit where it is due!! Tom Cruise is an admirable actor– he does have range and is still very entertaining- cut him some slack!! Leave his personal choices in life-out of his career path– it would be great to see him as a more mature and humbled- Maverick that he is!!!

Okay, Top Gun is one of my favorite movies of all time. And I would DEFINITELY not be interested in seeing a sequel. (Possibly I would if Maverick was recast.)

I think he is a decent person. Lions for Lamb was surprisingly better than what I read on the internet. It stimulated my mind. I think that the media is who has created a fictional character of him, more than anyone. I think the Top Gun story is just a rumor. I look forward to Tropic Thunder and seeing him in Valkyrie.
