Honoring Estelle

Cable channel Lifetime will pay tribute to Estelle Getty with a Golden Girls marathon on July 25th from 12-5 p.m.
The 10 episodes airing on Lifetime will be all about Sophia, the now legendary character she played on the hit show.
The last episode to air, at 4:30 p.m., will be the #1 Sophia episode as voted on by fans at myLifetime.com.
We're setting our DVR!

Thank the Lord. Estelle's death has made me question my future reaction to the death of my other favorite stars like Betty White and Don Johnson. One can only hope I make it through with the humor of Ms. Sophia.

Awesome, I did my own tribute to her yesterday. I put up her picture as my facebook/myspace image and watched 2 episodes of golden girls I had t-voes yesterday. She was truly a HILARIOUS actress! May she rest in peace!

Estelle Getty was a force to be reckoned with. I met her in 1994 and she was nothing short of miraculous. She really went to bat for the LGBT community and she will be SORELY missed.

To all the insensitive people leaving cruel dementia messages about old people; take note: you too will one day be old, so will we all. Do you want people talking shit about you when you are old? I didn't think so. This country has a bad habit of kicking old people to the curb, that's so wrong! Old people are just that, people who are old. They still have feelings and they still have a heart and they can be insulted. Having dementia is not a topic to joke about. It is an unwanted disease that happens to good people all over the world.
Think about being in a room with your mother and having her look you dead in the face and ask you who you are… or who she is for that matter. So Sad!
My grandmother had dementia and I can tell you first hand, that it's no party. I feel for people who have this disease, and their family/ care givers.

I still remember watching the original GG promo's airing the summer I was going into 1st grade, "from the producers of Benson comes a brand new comedy." I watched the first episode with my mother, and after I went to school the following Monday I was re-enacting Sophia's dialogue. I think that was Ma's first clue.

Let me start by saying i have been watching the Golden Girls since i was 15 and i am in my late 30's. I have loved and will forever love that show! I watch the reruns and even though i have seen every episode time and time again through the years, they never ever get old. I took comfort in knowing that through all these years, those ladies were golden then, they were still living. I am sooo sad to know that we have lost our beloved Sophia. She was one of a kind and her humor and quick wit will live on. There will never be a better duo than Sophia and Dorothy. Wow, what a wonderful mother daughter masterpeice. You will be missed and it's a sad sad day that anyone on Earth can make nasty comments on someone soo talented but moreso someone who had to suffer from this disease. Even though you have the devil working through you, i still dont wish such a terrible thing on you. To not recognize your loved ones is a sad and scary thought not to mention the deteration of your health. Think about if that happend to you and find a heart(if that's even possible). I refuse to waste my time on you so back to Estelle. What a loss! I wil continue to watch the shows and will smile and laugh as i always have. You will be missed for sure!!
