PETA vs. Batman

wenn5167366.jpg

PETA is upset with the new Batman movie.

As many of you saw, since the film has done so much business, The Dark Knight had some "unfriendly" dog scenes in the pic.

Particularly the scene where Batman "was punching out dogs left and right." In self-defense of course.

But some PETA is asking why with so many gadgets that Batman has on hand, the only way to defend himself was to hurt the dogs?

What do U think?

Is it just an innocent part of the movie, or is PETA overreacting?

Check out their list of the Top 10 Animal-Friendly Superheroes….after the jump.

10. Hellboy—This superhero may be someone that would make you cross the street if he came your way (the red skin and horns might be a bit intimidating), but he's just a big teddy bear with a love for kittens (and many successful attempts to save them).

9. Aquaman—The King of Atlantis, Aquaman can commune with sea creatures, whom he considers citizens of his ocean realm, and routinely protects them from being abused or exploited by the surface-dwellers.

8. Black Panther—As the leader of the African nation of Wakanda, the Black Panther has banned the evil White Gorilla Cult from his country. Members of the cult seek to gain power by killing one of Wakanda's rare white gorillas, bathing in their blood, and eating their flesh (um, gross). The villain known as Man-Ape gained his superpowers by doing exactly that—incurring the wrath of the Black Panther and becoming one of his greatest foes.

7. Superman—In a one-shot "PSA comic" entitled "Superman: For the Animals," Supes rescues a kitten from being thrown off a bridge by a group of kids named (seriously) Ballser, Charlie, Donuts, and Eightball and, in the process, teaches everyone a valuable lesson about not picking on anyone weaker than you—including animals.

6. Captain Planet—He just wants to save the planet from the evil Captain Pollution! And that, of course, includes all our wildlife friends who live there. Point of fact, though: "Heart"? NOT an element.

5. Thor—In the Ultimate Avengers animated movie, we find Thor out at sea with a group of activists protesting whale slaughter. If only his fellow Norwegians in the real world got the picture that whaling is a thing of the past!

4. Beast Boy—Everyone's favorite Teen Titan also happens to be vegan (and not just because he's been hanging out on peta2.com like pretty much every other teenager). You would be, too, if you had the metamorphic ability to turn into any animal and therefore had a little compassion for the ones that get eaten.

3. Animal Man—This lesser-known DC hero can mimic the abilities of animals and is an ardent advocate for animal rights. He's a vegetarian, and in Animal Man #15, Animal Man saves a group of dolphins from cruel fishers and drops the villains in the ocean to drown—only to be saved by one of the very dolphins he was trying to kill.

2. Wolverine and Jean Gray—In X-Men Unlimited #44, Wolverine catches three neighborhood boys in the act of torturing and killing animals for kicks—and offers to return the favor on behalf of his furry friends. Using her psychic powers, Jean Gray instead makes the boys experience in their minds the pain and suffering that they caused to their innocent victims. In the next issue … Colonel Sanders!

1. Wonder Man—In Civil War: Frontline #5, part of Marvel's epic Civil War story arc, Wonder Man is interrupted on his way to an important function by two S.H.I.E.L.D. agents looking for answers about a mysterious aquarium store bombing (read the book). The important function? A PETA banquet. 'Nuff said.

It's PETA. Why anyone pays attention to them, I don't know. I love animals and have a dog that's basically my kid. But give me a break! It's a movie and those animals were NOT hurt in real life. And speaking from personal experience, I was attacked by a dog in college. If I hadn't been protecting my puppy, I probably would have lashed out to defend myself, too!

    overreacting.
i understand what they're saying, but common, its not like they would actually hurt the dogs in making the movie, or that the movie is some how promoting doggie violence.
sometimes they just take things a little far.

    43

All I can say is that I knew it was in self defense but I do find it unnecessary to put scenes like that in films and I didnt watch it I covered my eyes and so I agree with PETA. Dogs dont act like that on their own accord they have to be trained and it just reminds me that there are people out there who do train dogs to attack and act maliciously against them. But lets not encourage it!

  44. cathu says – reply to this

    44

Screw PETA, there is a thing called the circle of life, that is just the way it is.

As for me, my favorite game is the balled kitty.

  45. Ni says – reply to this

    45

I love animals, but PETA is too overzealous. It is a movie, and if he did electrocute them or something else more hi-tech they would still say something about it……so YES they exagerate.

  46. zk says – reply to this

    46

PETA wouldn't have to intervene with this kind of seemingly-nonsensical statement and protests, if it weren't for the fact that there are real idiots and lunatics out there who emulate what they see on tv and in film. While not exclusive to Americans, you have to admit they have more than their share of stupid people.

  47. karen says – reply to this

    47

PETA is retarded. Because if they did they're work they would know that Bale would never harm an animal, he has a few dogs he's rescued himself. Pretty much they are just attention lovers, they just need something new to jump on and hate, and be mad at.

They are an extremist group of brain washers.

  48. Chanc says – reply to this

    48

I actually agree… I'm not an animal activist-nut or whatever, but I think that the violence against the dogs (specifically Rottweilers), was unneccessary. Punching the dogs or throwing the dogs down the elevator shaft wasn't even as bad as the Joker going after them with a lead pipe.

I guess I think they could just have expressed the violence without showing these dogs being beat, and also could've chosen a breed of dog that isn't SO stereotyped as a "gangsta" dog, etc. And no, I don't have Rottweilers. :)

overreaction on PETAs part! these dogs were attacking Batman in the movie. Can't you defend yourself from being attacked by three angry dogs? He got attacked twice from what I recall. plus, those dogs seemed resilient, anyways. booo PETA!!!!

  63. Steph says – reply to this

    63

PETA is right! There is never a need to show ANY violence towards animals in movies!

    Jezus!!

I say stick some Rotweillers on the PETA people as they're getting shot at or punched and kicked and see what they would do.

and it's just a freakin movie!!

  65. WINGY says – reply to this

    65

I love animal more then Peta but come on! If a Rotweiler was coming at you, you would punch the beast too. Or Peta is right, Batman could have used one of his handy explosive devices…Peta come on! Dont be a Whoopi.

  66. Kris says – reply to this

    66

yeah, that's pretty unnecessary. Love the film, but punching dogs sucks.

  67. lolai says – reply to this

    67

Fuck PETA their a bunch of hypocrites. They kill more dogs and cats then any "rescue" place.

  68. 68

Give me a freaking break. I thought he should have KILLED those damn dogs in the movie. It's just a movie! PETA is a bunch of complaining wusses.

  69. kkc says – reply to this

    69

I am usually a PETA supporter but in this case F THEM! Are they crazy? We have so much more to be upset about then one stupid scene where someone is defending themself! Why don't the raise the issue about the dogs being trained as attack dogs in the first place. Terrible…

  70. m says – reply to this

    70

I felt the same as PETA and was waiting for someone to standup. Some may understand that Batman is just a movie, but there are few that can't decipher between real v. fake. Dogs are animals that truly need a voice and we have to be there voice. PETA maybe extreme sometimes, but I have never liked a movie where a dog was hurt.

  71. ewwww says – reply to this

    71

Re: kevin – u sound like an awkward pig haha….hick much?

  72. jm says – reply to this

    72

Ugh - PETA - no wonder no one takes them seriously anymore. IT WAS A MOVIE. If dogs were hurt for real in the making, then I could see the reaction, but are you serious? Haven't seen the movie, but I doubt Batman was walking through some nice neighborhood picking out all the Spots and pummeling them. I mean, are they serious???????? Do people die in Batman? Does that deserve the same outrage?
This stupid reaction is what's wrong with this country - everyone thinks they are entitled to be heard and obliged when they're offended, even if it is one of the DUMBEST things I have ever heard.

  73. Allie says – reply to this

    73

i hate dogs. they deserve to die anyways. evil beasts.

  74. lexwr says – reply to this

    74

that's such bullshit…i am a HUGE animal-lover and own two dogs that i absolutely adore, but getting pissed off about a superhero movie wherein a fictional character fights off some giant pitbulls attacking him and saying that it is somehow against animals is ridiculous! 1) they were not actually hurting any animals/dogs when they filmed it and 2) in real life or in a movie, i would not blame anyone for doing everything in their power to defend themselves from some giant dogs that were attacking them. PETA, i am normally with you, but on this one, i gotta say: find something better to do with your time and a more worthy cause to focus your energies and attention on, because this one is ridiculous.

  75. Allie says – reply to this

    75

i hate dogs. they deserve to die anyways. evil beasts.

  76. foogi says – reply to this

    76

Peta should stay the fuck out. Its a fucking movie for crying out loud. Those dogs were not hurt. Someone needs to shoot these people and tell them to stfu. In real life if a pitbull or any fucking dog is coming after you biting the shit outta of you..guts and flesh are coming out what are you going to do..let the damn dog leave you without a leg? No fucking kill the dog for self defense. THIS IS A FUCKING MOVIE PEOPLE. THESE PEOPLE ARE FUCKING STUPID.

  77. Paula says – reply to this

    77

Frist let me start off by saying I love animals, and that I have seen the movie, it is a MOVIE.
What if this was to really happen to someone being attacked by dogs(and it has) your first reaction is to defend yourself.
To me the whole thing is stupied. PETA needs to look at from an entertainment stand point, because it is a MOVIE. They need to pick the battles wisely, cause to me it is a no win battle on there part.

  78. kelsi says – reply to this

    78

i think that PETA is so obnoxious! iunderstand that harming animals is awful,i would never EVER condone it…but oh my god! ENOUGH!!! they need to get over it! okfine but where the dogs hurt in real life?! i doubt it! so PETA..leave the movie alone…we all know that PETA exists..you dont need to pick at everything.

  79. val71 says – reply to this

    79

    GIVE ME A FUCKING BREAK.!
it was a fucking movie PETA.!! WTF is wrong with ya. they are defiantly taking shit too far. most likely it was not even real dogs. special effects people.! ugh this is what annoys me most about the fucking PETA people. they always looking for extra publicity.

  80. Roze says – reply to this

    80

I love animals but PETA sucks balls. (and not in the good way) If PETA had there wah none of us would be allowed to have an pets or give seeing eye dogs to the blind!
Now we all know that these big budget films have regulations on how animals are handled and treated, so no animals we're hurt in the filming of this movie and maybe PETA needs to start taking a good long look at themselfs. The jackasses paid Steve-O to do an anti fur when he had his own show tormenting and pissing off animals around the world!

  81. s mur says – reply to this

    81

    WTF !!!!
Its a f*cking movie for crying out loud!
No harm was actually done to ANY animal.
What a bunch of outdated, irrelevant, self-satisfied, sanctimonious twats PETA are!

  82. 82

    That's ridiculous.

    I hate PETA.

  83. 83

    GO PETAAAAAAAAAAA

  84. kimmy says – reply to this

    84

shut up peta.. the dogs werent actually harmed in the movie.
i knew as soon as i saw that scene you people would start your shit.
i am pretty sure christian bale did not actually hit the dogs.

    so shut your mouthhh!

  85. cheer says – reply to this

    85

So idiotic. IT'S A MOVIE!!!! Do they care that people were killed in the movie? NO! AGAIN, IT'S JUST A MOVIE!!!!!!

  86. Alexa says – reply to this

    86

Peta should just shut up. It's not like they hurt the dogs in the actual movie. And if Peta doesn't like the way Batman took out the dogs well it's better than shooting them. Peta is pathetic! I love animals but they take it much too far.

  87. 87

HAS ANYONE CHECKED OUT THIS 'GOSSIP ON THE GO' SHIT! HOW DUMB IS THAT? WHY DO I WANT A PHONE CALL AND HAVE TO PAY 4.99 FOR IT WHEN I CAN GET ON HERE AND READ IT AND COMMENT ABOUT THE BULLSHIT WITH YOU FINE FOLKS!

  88. 88

PETA always overreacts. Freakin' retarded. GET OVERYOURSELVES. It was obviously a fake.

usually im not into animal cruelty, but its BATMAN and he was only defending himself.

    bitches.

  92. Awaha says – reply to this

    92

You should look into how many dogs PETA takes in, and how many of those animals they euthanized. I'm for the ethical treatment of people before the animals i choose to eat. CLAMS DON'T HAVE A CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM TO FEEL!

  93. m.i.a says – reply to this

    93

I agree. Batman should have shot the dogs.

  94. WANT says – reply to this

    94

Perez- Why aren't you covering the HORRIFYING animal cruelty of the movie WANTED with your favorite woman Angelina Jolie. Okay they're probably computer generated rats, but they are covered in peanut butter, explosive devises are attached to them and they are sent into a building to explode the building. It is disgusting, and will result in more cruelty to animals. They are FUCKING exploded. Why don't you cover this? Is it because the movie sucked (even with Morgan Freeman, James McAvoy and Angelina Jolie). Or is it because you don't want to say anything bad about Angelina Jolie. THE MOVIE SUCKED, BUT THE CRUELTY TO ANIMALS WAS JUST AWFUL. I WALKED OUT.

  95. MICHE says – reply to this

    95

Are you kidding me. The other comments are right. ITS JUST A MOVIE!!!
The dogs were not hurt in real life. PETA needs to focus on real animal abuse.
I think with all of the Dark Knight sucess PETA just wanted to have their name associated with the movie for PR. To bad everyone thinks this time PETA went to far, its a real reach!!!

  96. jm says – reply to this

    96

    Re: m
I agree that I always cringe or cry when the dog is hurt. My mom will call me and ask me if a dog dies in a movie, because she can't watch it. HOWEVER, that doesn't mean it's ok to protest Batman. They have every right to complain, but normal folks have the right to react with ridicule and eye-rolling. I LOVE my dog, ok, but the truth is that there are vicious dogs who can kill people. There are dogs kept by CRIMINAL elements, and when that is portrayed on film, it's just FICTION. for those who can't distinguish between real and fake, let's hope they don't act like the Joker and go on some homicidal spree killing PEOPLE, rather than beating up some dogs, ok?

  97. Mered says – reply to this

    97

PETA is so annoying. they are so bored with themselves, they will look anywhere for something to complain about

  98. ALove says – reply to this

    98

FUCK PETA!!!!!!!! THEY ALWAYS HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY ABOUT SOMEONE!!!!

  99. 99

Oh yeah, and Superman, Aquaman, Captain Planet, Wonder Man, Animal Man? Sooo . . . they want Batman to be gay, right?

  100. Nik says – reply to this

    100

Fuck PETA. May rabid dogs attack them for our pleasure and see how PETA responds.
