Man Accidentally Kills Pregnant Wife While Cleaning Gun
A pregnant woman and her unborn child have died in central Florida after being accidentally shot by the woman's husband, authorities said.
Yailen Abreu, 23, and the fetus died Tuesday at Orlando Regional Medical Center.
Orange County sheriff's officials said Abreu was hit in the stomach while her husband was cleaning his gun late Monday at their Orlando-area home. She was six months pregnant.
The bullet struck 39-year-old Enio Abreu in the hand before hitting in his wife, authorities said.

someone in my town accidentally shot his 2 year old daughter in the neck while she was watching tv, and she died instantly. he was also cleaning his gun…the poor guy hasn't been able to smile. it really can be an accident. but floridians are weird so idk…he was only about 22 at the time. so sad

Accidentally? Wow. The fact of the matter is that the most common way that pregnant women die is at the hands of a man in her life. This is a sad fact–do something about it by supporting your local women's shelters.

Who doesn't start cleaning a gun by opening the action? I guess it could be a revolver, but that means that it was sitting there with the hammer cocked? This gun was probably going to go off accidentally at some point, anyhow, if it keeps it loaded and cocked.
If this was an accident (and I've never understood gun owners who have guns go off while cleaning them), that guy probably wishes the bullet had hit more than his hand. Though what a great way to fake an accident, shoot your wife through your hand.

must have been either a Glock or a Taurus, because one actually has to pull the trigger to remove the slide from the frame for cleaning on those two. If you don't make sure the gun is unloaded, then you can have a negligent discharge while cleaning. Unfortunately, these kind of accidents happen from time to time when people don't follow the basic safety rules.
THIS EXACT THING HAPPENED IN MY COMMUNITY (shelby co, ALabama)….well, the wife wasn't pregnant, but other than that it's the same. In 2005, a pastor in my community (probably the most popular one too) came into his house on a Wednesday night carrying some guns that he had been on a hunt w/ the previous weekend. Well, he went into the bedroom and proceeded to clean one of the guns when he mysteriously "dropped" the gun and it went off……SHOOTING his WIFE in the side of her back. On an EVEN SADDER note, their 2 DAUGHTERS (18 & 15) were in the house and the youngest ran into the room where her mother was. The wife died before the ambulance could get there. WELLLLLLL….this was such a tragic story around my EXTREMELY small community. I attended the funeral, hugged the pastor's neck, and told him I was praying for him. We all believed him when he said that it was an ACCIDENT. 2 YEARS LATER….October of 2007, authorities arrest the Pastor in Florida. He is now in jail awaiting trial for the MURDER of his wife. Come to find out, He had been leading a double life w/ another woman in Washington state and he killed his wife so he could be with her. SOOO…i would not put it past this man to murder his pregnant wife. I gave the pastor the benefit of the doubt, but i learned my lesson. If you don't know that your gun is loaded or don't know to have it unloaded when cleaning it, you should be no where near a gun. I won't get into the argument of whether someone should have a gun. That said, it is suspect, especially when the woman is pregnant AND the fact that he was SLIGHTLY injured. I am sure we have all seen on tv about a murder and the spouse was shot too, but not seriously, and then later, we learned that the spouse did the killing and was trying to divert attention by looking like a victim too. We don't know any other facts, but I am sure the police will look into it.

What a convenient accident. Another pregnant woman accidentally murdered by her husband. Guess baby daddy didn't want a child. So happy to live in Canada, where we have strict gun laws. We don't have "the right to bear arms", which is fine with me. My condolences to her family.
