This Might Make You Cry
This is so sad, yet touching.
Reece Fleming was diagnosed with leukaemia back in 2004 when he was just 4 years old.
He battled the disease for years until this May, when doctors gave the 8 year old boy only a few weeks to live.
The family decided to try and help him achieve most of his goals before he would pass. And one of those was to marry his school sweetheart, Elleanor Purgslove.
Reece's mother said "When we found out that we only had a few weeks with him we tried to do absolutely everything with him that we could. Him and Ellie had been 'special friends' for a couple of years but then they broke up. We said we'd have a pirate party, and Ellie came. She went to visit Reece a few times in hospital as well."
Then during a recent laser tag party, Reece "proposed" to his little friend.
After she accepted, their parents arranged a pretend wedding at Reece's home (not the kids pictured above).
The families went out to dinner in the mayor's limousine and organized the wedding with rings and even a fictional certificate.
The kids got married on July 4th. And Reece told his mom, "I can go now," after his wedding wish had been fulfilled.
His mom added, "He was so proud of her, and we were proud of them both."
The following day after the wedding, Reece died at home with his family.
Soooooo sad!
During the funeral, the mourners followed a horse-draw hearse on foot.
His mom added, "Even on the Saturday that he died, he got out of bed and walked to the sofa. He always tried walking, right to the end, so we thought if he walked for us then we would walk for him."
What an amazing little boy.

YES I WAS 1ST…GOOD MORNING EVERYONE
awww
i just started crying and sobbing in Starbucks……..wow, so sad….
omg so sweet and sad : (
that breaks my heart…
That is simultaneously the sweetest and saddest thing I have ever read.
wow, that was really beautiful.
What a sweet idea, and what a brave little boy. Makes me realize how lame I am sometimes not fully appreciating what I have. It's been a rough week–I needed this.
So sad and bitter sweet.
I'm crying
That is really sweet and sad at the same time. Hopefully he has a wonderful life wherever he is now.
How sad
first?
nicole, would you marry me!?
first
awww… I think this is so sweet. How wonderful for the parents to go along with this.
Yes it's a pretty sad story, who i am most concern about is the little girl, she must be devastated… why would her parents let her go that far and not protect her heart too? Why she had to go through all of this she is just a lil girl and will be really hard for her to go through all this mouning experience and get over this boy, I think the girls parents were very irresponsible.
As for the kid, it's great that his parents tried to make him get the most of life but still they pushed too far with the fake marriage thing, that was shocking!
so sad
beautiful story, extremely heartbreaking. where are the tissues!?
It did make me cry. Nice contrast to all the sadness celebrities bring on themselves.
very sad to lose any child to cancer, accidents, etc. however, did anyone think about what psychological affect that may have on the little girl who "married" a dead boy? just a thought….
!st!!!! sad. just rub it in his face,, uh thats a good idea. celebrate his life not the one his parents want for closure.
I am crying…: ( .
So touching - I teared up just reading about this. My love and prayers go out to the family.
That's really sad…What a wonderful child and an unfortunate life lost…
poor girl! her husband just died! she must be so confused.
OMG that is so sweet. May God bless him and his family.
OMG, how sad and touching! God Bless this little angel and his little "wife"!
This is so sweet! My condolences to the boys family .. how sad
Sad, but a lovely story!!! We should all draw inspiration from this and live to the fullest! Hey PH….When is your wedding? I want an invite!!
you fucker……..you made me cry!
So sad, & a wonderful story, nice to share & bring a small memory of such a sweet boy. Prayers for his family. ALSO…. too sad for your site, but still glad you posted, so that everyone can remember such a trooper.
Re: kate – thanks for being bitchy after a sad story. idiot
This is just stupid.. what does a little boy know about marriage !
This just shows that americans don't value marriage if they let a little boy get married. There are a lot of things involved in marriage… you have to have a real working relationship, and love, and all those things.
Re: kate –
aww, this is so sweet yet very sad. that poor little boy, he married his sweetheart and then he died. that has to be the best story i have ever heard.
What a beautiful story..and brave boy…Makes you appreciate what you have…never take one day for granted…May he RIP with the angels
soooooooo sad!
Totally teared up - fosho
Re: kate – that is true..poor lil girl and if strangers are sad about the lil boy it must be worse for the girl and his family. my prayers goes out to them
amazing story!
I am over here sobbing.. Don't worry about that little girl…she has an angel watching over her.
One day half the population will have cancer. No one cares that we constantly eat, drink, breath and absorb hundreds of chemicals every day that have never been fully tested.
SHOULD'A BROUGHT THE KID TO DISNEYWORLD…. NOW THAT'S A GOOD WAY TO GO!
I've just gone and soaked my arm warmer with my tears and it was because of this sad but beautiful story. SO SO SAD.
Tigger no Happy
THANKS FOR MAKING ME CRY PEREZ! YOU HAVE RUINED MY BIRTHDAY!
That didn't make me cry. It freaked me out. "Him and Ellie had been 'special friends' for a couple of years but then they broke up." They are children!!! What kind of mother would say that? It sounds like she's talking about a 25 year old couple!
He sounds like a sweet little boy, but to tell you the truth, I find it a little creepy.
That is so sad. I hate hearing stories about kids dying, but it's quite touching. Bless his family!
I have to agree with Kate. Very bitter sweet though and it brought a tear to my eye…how incredibly unfair life can be. On the funny side though. Who the fuck says "aww sad (sad emoticon)" and then follows it by "first?" LOL Way to miss the message of what's important in life…hahahah but thanks for making me laugh
This story is so touching. I'm so happy that Reese got his last wish fulfilled!
at least he died happy :')
this is the sweetest, most heartbreaking thing. and i love that last line, "so we thought if he walked for us then we would walk for him." what a brave little boy.
That is so sad, sweet story, but so sad . My condolences to the family. I couldn't imagine losing my lil boy. Bless his heart.
What a brave kid, RIP
Re: kate –
I think that her parents did something that she can be proud of. She did an amazing thing by helping to let this boys dreams come true, that's a gift that is rewarding for years to come. Maybe I'm being harsh, but by 8 I had already experienced death of a friend…they can't protect her forever. And for all we know the parents sat the girl down and discussed it with her, I seriously doubt they would have FORCED her to do anything she didn't want to do.
That is beautiful of the parents to have the wedding for him. He's an inspiration, we all should strive to accomplish our goals everyday, as it was our last.
Re: Hanna – Actually i think they were English familys.
I'm crying already. ='(
What a sad/sweet story. Imagine being a 'widow' at 8 years old, even after a pretend wedding.
My only disgust comes from the ASS holes and the Alex the Douches, not to mention Beyon who still use stories like this to act like complete and total wastes of oxygen. Fuckers. At least Eric added, "How sad. First?" Isn't there an endless pit that we can throw you into so you can never be heard from again?
Its a shame that you have to start your day seeing if you can be 'first' on a Perez post (no offense Perez). I enjoy my Perez as much as anyone, but there are also magical website like CNN, Fox News, the AJC, New York Times. Grow a pair and actually learn something, assholes.
god bless that sweet little boy
AWWWWWWWW That is so sad and cute.
sooo sad.
but its so great that he was such a well-spirited little boy, and never gave up. so touching.
There was a little girl on Oprah about 10 or 15 years ago (she was about 6 or 8 at the time) who did the same thing. She was one of the first wave of children diagnosed with AIDS and she was basically terminal. I still bawl every time I think of these kids.
Re: Hanna – what kind of an idiot are you!! This isnt a real marriage and everyone knows it!!! if he wanted to be a "pilot" before he died he would have gotten to fly with a pilot in a plane!!! Its not about a real marriage you horses ass!!!! Its about letting a kids dream, however odd it is, happen for him before he dies!!!!
the answer is YES eric…absolutely…i can't believe it! we're getting married!!!
Talk about a touching story. So heartbreaking. R.I.P. Reece!
this is really heartbreakin!
While this might have been a pretend wedding, are the girl's parents giving her the emotional support of a grieving widow? Doubtful. While this might have been good for the boy, it was not good for the girl. Ah, but our culture still cares very little for girls. So sad.
Re: Trish –
You're not alone.
Re: Hanna – what kind of heartless bitch are you? can't you read? it was a pretend wedding, and a dying child's last wish and clearly made him very happy, and didnt harm anyone, or mock the institution of marriage in anyway. stupid? hardly.
Re: Hanna –
What the hell, what kind of moronic retard are you?
The kid was dying, and his parents wanted to give him everything that a normal person in life should have.
Honestly, why do idiots like you exist? =\
