This Might Make You Cry

This is so sad, yet touching.

Reece Fleming was diagnosed with leukaemia back in 2004 when he was just 4 years old.

He battled the disease for years until this May, when doctors gave the 8 year old boy only a few weeks to live.

The family decided to try and help him achieve most of his goals before he would pass. And one of those was to marry his school sweetheart, Elleanor Purgslove.

Reece's mother said "When we found out that we only had a few weeks with him we tried to do absolutely everything with him that we could. Him and Ellie had been 'special friends' for a couple of years but then they broke up. We said we'd have a pirate party, and Ellie came. She went to visit Reece a few times in hospital as well."

Then during a recent laser tag party, Reece "proposed" to his little friend.

After she accepted, their parents arranged a pretend wedding at Reece's home (not the kids pictured above).

The families went out to dinner in the mayor's limousine and organized the wedding with rings and even a fictional certificate.

The kids got married on July 4th. And Reece told his mom, "I can go now," after his wedding wish had been fulfilled.

His mom added, "He was so proud of her, and we were proud of them both."

The following day after the wedding, Reece died at home with his family.

Soooooo sad!

During the funeral, the mourners followed a horse-draw hearse on foot.

His mom added, "Even on the Saturday that he died, he got out of bed and walked to the sofa. He always tried walking, right to the end, so we thought if he walked for us then we would walk for him."

What an amazing little boy.

Yes it's a pretty sad story, who i am most concern about is the little girl, she must be devastated… why would her parents let her go that far and not protect her heart too? Why she had to go through all of this she is just a lil girl and will be really hard for her to go through all this mouning experience and get over this boy, I think the girls parents were very irresponsible.
As for the kid, it's great that his parents tried to make him get the most of life but still they pushed too far with the fake marriage thing, that was shocking!

This is just stupid.. what does a little boy know about marriage !
This just shows that americans don't value marriage if they let a little boy get married. There are a lot of things involved in marriage… you have to have a real working relationship, and love, and all those things.

      Re: kate
I think that her parents did something that she can be proud of. She did an amazing thing by helping to let this boys dreams come true, that's a gift that is rewarding for years to come. Maybe I'm being harsh, but by 8 I had already experienced death of a friend…they can't protect her forever. And for all we know the parents sat the girl down and discussed it with her, I seriously doubt they would have FORCED her to do anything she didn't want to do.

What a sad/sweet story. Imagine being a 'widow' at 8 years old, even after a pretend wedding.

My only disgust comes from the ASS holes and the Alex the Douches, not to mention Beyon who still use stories like this to act like complete and total wastes of oxygen. Fuckers. At least Eric added, "How sad. First?" Isn't there an endless pit that we can throw you into so you can never be heard from again?

Its a shame that you have to start your day seeing if you can be 'first' on a Perez post (no offense Perez). I enjoy my Perez as much as anyone, but there are also magical website like CNN, Fox News, the AJC, New York Times. Grow a pair and actually learn something, assholes.

There was a little girl on Oprah about 10 or 15 years ago (she was about 6 or 8 at the time) who did the same thing. She was one of the first wave of children diagnosed with AIDS and she was basically terminal. I still bawl every time I think of these kids.

While this might have been a pretend wedding, are the girl's parents giving her the emotional support of a grieving widow? Doubtful. While this might have been good for the boy, it was not good for the girl. Ah, but our culture still cares very little for girls. So sad.

      80

A very touching story indeed. To Kate: I am sure the little girl's–and the boy's–parents explained the entire situation, as well as all of the ramifications, before hand. I also don't believe that she was "forced" into anything and did this willingly, knowing full-well how much this would mean to her little friend as well as to herself. This "marriage" meant so much to this little boy–and because of that, to his parents–that any attempts by some bloggers to spoil that seem heartless.

We live in a society who is so worried about what causes cancer that half the people in the world deny themselves simple pleasures just because some douche like you might suggest it might cause cancer.
