This Might Make You Cry

This is so sad, yet touching.

Reece Fleming was diagnosed with leukaemia back in 2004 when he was just 4 years old.

He battled the disease for years until this May, when doctors gave the 8 year old boy only a few weeks to live.

The family decided to try and help him achieve most of his goals before he would pass. And one of those was to marry his school sweetheart, Elleanor Purgslove.

Reece's mother said "When we found out that we only had a few weeks with him we tried to do absolutely everything with him that we could. Him and Ellie had been 'special friends' for a couple of years but then they broke up. We said we'd have a pirate party, and Ellie came. She went to visit Reece a few times in hospital as well."

Then during a recent laser tag party, Reece "proposed" to his little friend.

After she accepted, their parents arranged a pretend wedding at Reece's home (not the kids pictured above).

The families went out to dinner in the mayor's limousine and organized the wedding with rings and even a fictional certificate.

The kids got married on July 4th. And Reece told his mom, "I can go now," after his wedding wish had been fulfilled.

His mom added, "He was so proud of her, and we were proud of them both."

The following day after the wedding, Reece died at home with his family.

Soooooo sad!

During the funeral, the mourners followed a horse-draw hearse on foot.

His mom added, "Even on the Saturday that he died, he got out of bed and walked to the sofa. He always tried walking, right to the end, so we thought if he walked for us then we would walk for him."

What an amazing little boy.

I am glad that this mother had the opportunity to have some type of peace with this; most people and parents are not accorded this opportunity.

Re: Hanna – hanna just shut the hell up! my god it was his dying wish for a PRETEND wedding. obviously the love that those two kids shared was very strong and beautiful. it was the love of best friends and it counts! also stop blaming america for this because it took place in the uk.

A special little boy, to be sure, but I wonder about the little girl and her family. I hope they prepared her extremely well for this, both before and after the "wedding" & his death. The love of my life died when we were 20, and I'm stills crewed up — I can only imagine what it's like to be the 4-year-old who "married" the dead boy…

So so sad. Appreciate your family and especially your little ones. My ex chose his movie career( HA HA )over his kids. Kids are the best and it is not fair when a tragedy like this occurs. Hopefully he is in a better place.

      Re: Hanna
Yeah, and he will never get to experience all of that.. The parents had his best interest in mind, they might not have thought about the little girls welfare quite as much, but… it wasn't his fault that he would never get to experience true love… and the responsibilities that go along with being married.. and also, they did not ACTUALLY get married.. But he DID get to experience something that he would never have the chance to.. Every child deserves to experience life, and he didn't… I pray that this little girl does not have any permanent damage because of this, but also, she will grow up knowing that she helped to make a little boys dream come true before he passed… We should all be that selfless…

    36. 536

(I BELIEVE) FOR YOU 2 SIT ON UR CHAIR ANOTHER DAY IN YOUR LIFE AND WRITE HOW STUPID IT WAS THAT A BOY GOT HIS LAST LIFE FULLFLIMENT IS STUPID. THAT LITTLE BOY KNEW ENOUGH THAT HE HAD SPECIAL FEELINGS FOR HER AND WANTED 2 MARRY HER. I AM 22YRS OLD AND MARRIED AND I STILL DONT COMPLETLY UNDERSTAND IT. SOME PEOPLE TAKE MARRAGE TO SERIOUSLY …ITS JUST A PIECE OF PAPER N LEGAL DOCUMENTS. AS LONG AS U LOVE THE PERSON AND ARE FAITHFULLY LIVING 2GETHER WITH OR WITHOUT CHILDREN ARE YOU NOT MARRIED BECAUSE U DON'T HAVE THAT PAPER STATING THAT?! I WAS SO ANGRY U WROTE THIS I FEEL U THINK ITS STUPID FOR THE WRONG REASON. I AGREE A LOT OF AMERICAN MARRIAGES FAIL BUT THAT DOES NOT MEAN U HAVE A RIGHT 2 GO AND CRITIZE A FAMILY FULLFILLING THEIR CHILD'S LAST WISHES I DONT CARE IF HE IS 4YRS OLD OR 98 BE RESPECTFUL …AND IN THIS WONDERFUL COUNTRY OF AMERICA WE DO HAVE FREEDOM OF SPEECH THATS Y U ARE ABLE 2 SAY THAT STANK ASS CRAP U DID!!!! HE WAS HAPPY AND DIED HAPPILY HOW DARE U MOCK AT THEM FOR THAT ….IN OTHER WORDS MY MOTHER ALWAYS SAID IF U HAVE NOTHING NICE 2 SAY SHUT UR BIG FU*KING MOUTH!!!!!!

well…u speak as if you are da fucken marrige EXPERT but whats funny is dat u are probably single or divorced….but it's really messed up how you judge people you dont know on their descion to do what they wish with their kid….that they gave life to…how would you went about it if it was your child? you'd say no son even though you mite die tommorow i am not gonna allow you to get married because you have no concept of what it is….i kno if i knew a loved one was soon to die i'd make sure whatever their wish was it'd be granted i don't know dats just me but it was jus fucked up how you say dats stupid ur stupid bitch but life is crazy dontcha know maybe when u have a kid (assuming u dont) your child will be diagnosed with a terminal disease and ask for something crazy as a last wish…..i can already see u reply"this is stupid"
but i guess you don't understand dat this was just a child's last wish not his parents doing something "stupid?" it was what he wanted…any asshole knows dat an 8 year old knows nothing about a marrige or commitment and u asshole proved this point….
This is just stupid.. what does a little boy know about marriage !
This just shows that americans don't value marriage if they let a little boy get married. There are a lot of things involved in marriage… you have to have a real working relationship, and love, and all those things.

That's the sweetest thing I've read in a long, long time. I did have tears in my eyes after I read it. As little Ellie grows up, she'll be forever reminded of this special little boy that loved her so much that he wanted to marry her before he died. I think the reason he died is because he was too good for this world; I like to think that he's in Heaven with the angels.

Does no one else but me think this is extreme, unhealthy and perverted? This is a kid. Getting married is an adult commitment. I am sorry the boy is fatally ill but you don't compromise common sense and the sanity of a young girl to make yourself feel better. This is absolutely repulsive.

Re: wili – You're not the only one, you're just in the minority.

When I was seven, I got 'married', and I still smile when I think about it. This litttle girl Ellie will always remember her 'special friend' Reese because his dying wish (THE VERY LAST THING HE WANTED) was to marry her before he died. He's the kind of boy that could very well have thought of this himself, and I think the people saying that these two friends getting 'married' is sick, disturbing or whatever need to look at this story from an eight-year-old child's point of view. Maybe they'll see how touching this really is.

      588

I'm sure the parents sat her down and explained to her that what happend wasn't real… it's not as if she was under the impression it was a real wedding, loved him like a husband or even understood what a real marriage is. She'll look back on it as that was my friend when I was 8 years old and I'm happy I did what I could for him when he was alive…

    89. Jamie says – reply to this

      589

Wow. Am I the only one who finds this a tad bit creepy? I mean, of course it's horrible that the boy died, and my thoughts are with the family. It's terrible that he died, but I mean, wow. A fake wedding for a couple of eight year olds?!?!? I had a physical reaction to that picture, it actually made me cringe. I know it's not them but the idea of it is really *really* disturbing. They are way too young, and I think that everyone is taking the situation with the girl a little too lightly. It doesn't seem healthy for her to be involved in a fake marriage of a boy who died.

Sorry guys, this one left a really sour taste in my mouth. The fact that everyone thinks is so beautiful and touching is even more creeptastic.

Re: Hanna – Shut the fuck up you stupid dumb skank. The marrige was fake. IDIOT!! It was something that that brave little boy wanted to do before his life was taken away from him. How dare you talk your bullshit of marrige being sacred and "americans" not holding value to it. When thats so far from the truth. WE value marrige as much as we value LIVES, especially those of children that have suffered. His parents just wanted to give him happiness and joy so he can take those wonderful memories where ever his spirit takes him. YOU CAN GO SHOVE YOUR MORONIC, IGNORANT COMMENTS UP YOUR ASS. NO ONE WANTS TO HEAR YOUR SHIT.
