Pet rabbit credited with saving couple from fire
A pet rabbit is credited with saving a couple from a fire that swept through their home in the southern city of Melbourne.
Metropolitan Fire Brigade commander Mick Swift said the husband returned home from a night shift early Thursday and heard the family pet, named "Rabbit," scratching at the couple's bedroom door half an hour after he had gone to bed.
Swift said the husband, whose identity has not been released, discovered a fire in a back room and smoke spreading quickly through the house. He was able to escape the house with his wife unharmed.
Swift said the rabbit saved the couple from injury.
He said the blaze caused substantial damage to the house before it was extinguished by four crews of firefighters.

My bunny did the same thing. I had returned home from the hospital (after having surgery) and was kinda out of it. Went to bed and my bunny wouldn't stop jumping on me. I repeatedly pushed him off the bed and was yelling at him. He then stayed right beside my bed and banged his feet on the floor and was growling. I thought he was being a jerk and wanted attention because I'd been away for three days. Nope. The space heater in my bedroom had caught on fire. Only when I turned on the light did I smell the smoke of burning rubber etc. Could not believe I didn't smell it while I was in bed, but I was on some powerful painkillers.
Not surprised. Rabbits are like having a cat and a dog rolled up into one. You can train them to use the litter box and they follow you everywhere, and they will curl up and sleep with you. Very intelligent creatures.

I'm sure the rabbit's fine or they wouldn't have done a story. They do make great pets-I know several house rabbits. So cute playing with the cats!
What bothers me is that Perez use this as a Headline of the Weak. Uh Perez, I suspect the bunny saved more lives than you ever did.

Lots of people have rabbits who have from roam in their house.
Rabbits are easily litterbox trained like cats and make great pets. I had one myself for 5 years who passed recently. Im so glad them and their bunny are ok.

I read this in todays paper (im in Australia). The bunny is fine for all those who are wondering! The bunny did suffer exposure to heat and smoke inhalation but the owners made sure he escaped too and he has since been taken to the vets!

You nitwit, rabbits can be litter trained(like my two).. so yea.. they are actually better than dogs or cats, no noise!

They named their rabbit "Rabbit"? Lol. I got a dwarf rabbit aswell and I'd love to keep him free all the time but he keeps destroying absolutely everything and has to be put in cage when no one is home.

YAY for bunnies! Rabbits are the 3rd common pet at animal shelters (dogs and cats are 1st and 2nd, duh) yet they are so misunderstood! My 2 are litterbox trained, house trained and are like cats only better!
For us bunny lovers who are intersted, there's an AP news video on the website and the owner is holding her rabbit!! He's ok!
