The Return of Robocop

robocop__opt1.jpg

Let's add another movie to the list of remakes. Can we stop this, please????

MGM is now ready to add a new RoboCop movie to its franchise, 21 years after the first film was released.

The film is said to debut sometime in 2010 and will be directed by Darren Aronofsky.

The storyline has yet to be revealed but insiders say "it will take the sci-fi vigilante classic in more of a noir direction."

The current films have sold over 4.1 million DVDs and have a strong following in Japan, U.K., and Germany.

Will U go watch?

Get up to date please, this has been announced for awhile. I believe Mr Aronofsky just signed thereby confirming its green light. It's also not a remake but a sequel taking up 20 years later during which the Robocop program has been mothballed.

If Darren Aronofsky - the director of Requiem for a Dream - is directing, I'll definitely go see it.

  25. 25

Aronofsky? Hell yeah! I couldn't care less about Robocop, but if Aronofsky is doing it, I will definitely watch it at one point.

    A. It's not a remake, it's a sequel that takes place 20 years after the "Robocop" program was shut down.

    B. The guy who directed Pi, The Fountain and Requiem for a Dream is directing, so that's very promising.

    C. I agree that all the remakes are getting silly, but this one hardly applies. Especially after the total shit that Robocop 2 was, I'd say the classic first one deserves a decent sequel.

  27. 27

    zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

    I think they zhould

    remake alot of moviez

or go backwardz 2 the beginning

I wish that they would do an anmie style film based on Frank Miller's Prime Directives comic book series that is the REAL screenplay and story for Robocop 2 that was supost to have be used and made.

  29. 29

I really hate Darren Aronofsky - he's married to Rachel Weisz, whom I looove.

His movies are convoluted hot messes.

This sounds really lame, I don't think I'd watch it unless they got a really exciting cast and it strayed far from the original.

Aronofsky is a very good director (Pi and Requiem For A Dream)…if he has a hand in the writing, then yeah, i'd definitely check it out.

I love how you put Showgirls and Robocop right after eachother, since both movies wer directed by the same guy: Dutch director Paul Verhoeven (who also did Totall Recall, Basic Instinct, Starship Troopers and Hollow Man).

With the new incentives package in Michigan, I hope they will at least film the movie in Detroit this time. I think this film would be much better if for one it was written by Frank Miller and was more of continuation of the series that forgets the craptastic 3rd film.

RoboCop is a GREAT movie and is pretty much an homage/tribute to all the old comics Marvel did in the 60s (including Iron Man). One just needs to RECOGNIZE that Jon Favreau's 'Iron Man', which I also think is a great film, has (let's just call them) SIMILIARTIES to RoboCop. Least of which is the last line of dialouge of the film in both movies.

The real pimps with the big bucks know that there's no talent in Hollyweird so they will continue to fund these shiddy recreations. Reality shows are also guilty of this trend. Like being a drug dealer, sell this crap and make millions! Our society and publicists have make weak whack ass people so called "stars" for being drunks, whores, designers and for doing nothing.

Aronofsky is a good filmmaker, it has a chance to be good. As long as its not as convoluted as The Fountain.

    59

For those unfamiliar Darren Aronofsky is a pretty slick filmmaker(Requiem for a Dream). With the technological advances in special effects (and filmmaking in general) and Aronofsky's stylistic prowess(You know there's going to be a heavy-handed love story going on) I have zero doubt it's going to be anything less than solid but truthfully was there really any need to remake Paul Verhoeven's magnum opus?

I totally agree with you that all these remakes have to stop. It really is getting old. I would also like to point out that Darren Aronofsky is a great directer. Pi, Reqium for a Dream and The Fountain were all great films. I hate to see someone as talented as Aronofsky hop on the remake/mainstream bandwagon. You never know, with him directing it just might work.

You guys are crazy, he will kick the shit out of robocop with his directing it… it'll be totally out of the mainstream and told as a "dark" story it kinda is.
We should be kissing the stars at how lucky we are to have Aronofsky direct it and not fucking James Cameron
